    One of the finest films ever made: script, directing, acting, cinematography, music !!!! It's making me cry, my dad loved this movie, we'd watch together. No one makes films like this anymore. I don't think so, anyway!

      Yes, I agree. A perfect example of less is more, and of "show, don't tell". What could be simpler in terms of the action and the way it is filmed, yet the scene courses with myriad emotions and heart-wrenching drama. The audience is given time to fully appreciate all the implications of her refusal. Engrossing and absolutely superb film-making.

    the film is just iconic moment after iconic moment. Incredible camera shots, editing, lighting, acting moments, again and again. And post-war torn Vienna was the perfect place and moment in time to film it. A coming together of all the best things in the film universe, never ever to be repeated.

    This movie is breathtaking. If u r watching the trailer and trying to decide if u should watch it, know the trailer is nothing like the movie. As great as this movie is, this is one of the worst trailers I have ever seen. The film is spectacular and I emphatically declare that all who come across it should view the film. It is a plot of the highest caliber in story telling. It tells of two friends who wish for a life of camaraderie. But due to life decisions and stances of morality, they are forced to oppose each other and ultimately become foes. This is a timeless Must Watch film

    Nice attempt, but to my opinion 4K has added nothing: it barely reached HD (1080p) quality. I don't bother with 4K when restoring old historic film footage: the software takes more than four times longer and in the end hardly anything is gained.

    Funny thing about this film...for me, anyway. A few years ago, I was looking at the DVDs in our city library, and obviously wasn't paying much attention...because I thought I'd picked up The Thin Man (first of six unbeatable comedy murder mysteries in series). I ripped it, then let it sit on my computer until last night, when I was looking for something different from what I'd been watching. I had let it sit there for so long, because I didn't recall having heard of it before...but within a few minutes, I realized that I'd seen it forty or fifty years ago, on a small B&W TV (almost certainly my grandparents', since I often spent hours watching TV there...really nothing to do on a small farm at night, you know?).
    Also, I'd never known the zither could sound so good (it sure didn't sound so good on a cheap sixties tv)...I'd only heard people with minimal skill playing one before. Thank you Anton Karas!

    During WW2, Graham Greene worked for MI6 with Harold Adrien Russell "Kim" Philby. The name "Harry Lime" is an amalgamation--Harry was Philby's first name while "Lime" refers to Greene. THE THIRD MAN was about penicillin but was really referring to intelligence activities in post-war Vienna.

    • @peterh1353
      @peterh1353 3 роки тому

      Strangely so was my uncle. Greene hated that life and the discipline. Worked in the field and covered the sailing of the Queen Mary to America to be refitted as a troop ship. He worked some of his adventures in to Our Man in Havana. Giving it a totally different setting from his actual war work.

Why else would such a big name not appear until 2/3rds into the movie?

      Orson Welles made himself unvailable when the shooting was about to start. He spread that he had gone to Rome, but he was found in a Hotel i Paris, and he got a raise in his contract. Due to the lost time, they had to rewrite the script. Even the running shadow in the car scene..it is not Orson Welles. It is Carol Reed stuffed with hanger inside his coat to make his shoulder broader. The total amount of time when Orson is in picture is extremely short, but it just adds to the mystery.
