Hi Tom. Love your content! Sorry to hear of your discomfort with your pair of McAllisters. I've had some discomfort with Allen Edmonds shoes after long walks as well and I think it really boils down to the lasts which the shoes were sized on. Have you tried a different size like 11.5 EEE? I have several pairs of 65 Last shoes sized 8.5 D and they used to give me lots of discomfort. I realized that for most AE lasts 8.5 E fits me a lot better! I bought several pairs of 65 last in this size and all the blister problems went away! Also I stretched the heck out of my D pairs using shoe stretchers, hot hair dryers, rubbing alcohol and oversized shoe trees and my D pairs fir me much better now. I hope you have the same success stretching out your pair of McAllisters as I did with my D width shoes.

Hi, thanks for watching! These are actually in an E width. I tried the EE and It was too wide all over my foot. I think wearing these with dress socks will be the answer, or just wearing different shoes for longer walks.

Perhaps it would be better, if you have a high instep (like me) to opt for the same or a smilar model in the DERBY style as they simply offer more room for the foot.
Another way of widening your shoes is to bring it to a good COBBLER, as they have machinery that is superior to your shoe stretcher. In particular they are able to widen the shoe on the vamp and the instep.
And perhaps one way to insulate your leather soles is to appy SOLE OIL or LINSEED OIL every 3 to 4 months, if you wear your shoes regularly.

Thanks for this. I have a different pair of dress shoes that are derbies and those fit much better. These McAllisters still fit okay, but not as nice since they’re balmorals.

Man, I would hate for you to have to get rid of your Allen Edmonds. They truly are a beautiful dress shoe. I hope I don’t run into this problem with my 13 Es. I’ve worn them only a few times and didn’t have to walk far when wearing them. Mine are a bit loose fitting because I chose the extra width but if I went with Ds I would be able to feel that rubbing on my left foot pinky toe.

Thanks. I will probably end up getting rid of some of them, but not all at once.

Great video. I agree. The 65 last of the Strands hurts my little toe. The last looks good, but it is narrow, and the instep is lower.
I can recommend trying the McTavish, which has a similar style as the McAlister. The last isn't as elegant, but it is more comfortable, for me at least. I think the instep is higher, and it's more roomy in the forefoot. It also comes in many options with lug half sole.

Thank you! Looks like the mctavish is discontinued now. I actually might just fall back to my daltons for dressy shoes, super comfortable. Sadly, this are also now discontinued.

Bummer that they are discontinued. I'm glad I have my two pairs. Maybe they will bring them back or come up with a wingtip in another last.

I wish they made these in navy!

Some shoes have a 48 hour wear for leather to take the shape of your feet. I call this the break-in period. Second thing that crossed my mind is the way you laced your shoes. Try leaving extra lace in the eyelets for a relaxed fit. You mention 11e as your size; you might try 11 ee for more comfort. Wet shoes mean saddle soap maintenance time for me. Thanks for the video.👍

Thanks for this. I’ve had these shoes for years, never really wore them for long walks though.

Stupid shoe. Narrow and not natural foot shaped. High stiff heal. Puts the man in a lordosis position.
