The Killing of Cathy Sano

- Last year I covered the sad story of Sherry Byrne, the 22-year-old woman from Hamilton County, Ohio who was kidnapped and murdered by David Brewer, a man she believed to be her friend. These horrible events unfolded in March of 1985. While researching that case, I came across another, which took me down an equally difficult path of research. The case of Cathy Sano came to light in February of 1982, mere miles from where Sherry’s life was taken three years later. It was another Ohio-based fight for justice that ran parallel to the Sherry Byrne story for years to come.

Cathy was a dear and wonderful friend whom I miss so very much. We always had such a great time together at the doughnut shop. After she disappeared I always had a feeling in my gut that Mark and Dave Loomis knew something about her disappearance. I grew up with the Loomis brothers and knew them very well and always knew when they were lying about something or hiding something. No one knew how much I liked Cathy. When all the other kids in school would pick on me, she was always the one who would make me feel better. On the last day of school, Cathy and another girl were doing something that they both could have gotten into serious trouble over, which I saw them do, and I promised both of them I wouldn't say anything. I never told anyone about it, and still won't. The murder of Cathy was one of the most horrible things I had ever lived through. We thought Wells would die in imprison, and we were all so upset when they let him out a few years ago. Thank you so much for making this video. It's nice to see that someone remembers Cathy so many years later.
Did you know William Alley who found her skull? What did you think (and what were people saying) about him claiming he thought it was an animal skull? -Not trying to suggest he had anything to do with the murder; I just found it pretty sick that he took it and showed it off. Also if he thought it was an animal skull then why DID he eventually contact police about it?
I grew up and live in this area now, there are still a lot of violence against women cases in Ohio. It’s despicable
You think this is terrible try being Samuel Reese Shepard.
@@cyankirkpatrick5194 the guy who murdered his wife and got away with it? Who cares how he felt? Or are you talking about the son that never got the therapy needed to come to terms with his father murdering his mother?
Also, what a red flag your comment is about yourself.
RIP Cathy & Teresa.
Thankyou for the analysis.

Always great to hear from you, mate! I hope you are doing well and having a pleasant day.
Things are good, mate. Hope you're well.
Thank you for bringing these cases to light again, I live in Centerville Ohio & don't recall them but my life was in turmoil at the time & I didn't watch the news very much, but retelling these is very enlightening!
I grew up in Hamilton County Ohio, been to all of these places. It’s a desperate place.
Thank you for your excellent work, even if it is covering these awful tragedies. Please continue your excellent work. Rest in peace to all victims.
I appreciate the clearly huge amount of effort and time you put into your videos, thanks 😊
Thanks very much, we may wait but by Jove it’s worth it. Love this channel ❤
I can't imagine, being old enough to drive, and legit thinking a human skull was an animal skull.
That really puzzled me too.
Me three.
Don’t forget - this was the 80’s. When would they have seen a human skull?
@@michellerenner6880 Books, movies, museums, biology class ...
@@johnopalko5223 movies? I don’t think so. And biology class? I didn’t see a human skull in high school. If it was today, id totally agree with you.
wow this is going on the watchlist as top priority. liked already, will watch tonight😊
I’m over the moon to see you back with another awesome video! Love it as always 😊
Flipping You Tube . Despite hitting the notification bell every time , I still don't get notified 😢 Thank You for another excellent video ❤
I’ve been patiently waiting for a video, thank you 😊
Thank you, I hope you like it.
Thank you again for your well made films! This is by far one of the best ways to honor the deceased, by telling their story.
Perfect timing, I'm having tea and crumpets and was wondering what to watch whilst enjoying my evening tea. Thanks mate, you just made my evening. Thank you for uploading new content for us, it's been a while. Welcome back🙏

This was a wonderfully made piece of work CW .. I can't even imagine the time it must take to produce a video as good as this one .. I am so glad I found your channel sir ...

Thanks for the research you always put in your videos and thanks for uploading.
Ohh shit! A Curious World upload hell yeah. And a story from my state.
Glad to be of service. I need to lay off Ohio for a while though. 😊
@@CuriousWorldProductions It’s a terrible place, m8. We deserve it.
Excellent
Great podcast, and can't wait for the next one.
A very interesting video again thnx.
Excellent coverage.
His lawyers were as vile as him.
I have rang the Bell 🔔 for ALL notifications on your channel. I was just wondering if you had dropped a video, yet. Here it is! It’s been out for weeks, now but, I didn’t get a notification!
This is a common issue. UA-cam needs to address it.
Those poor girls.
The more I watch these videos the more I realise that the laws on both sides of the pond are pathetically flawed....yeah I'm a Brit.
Am quite new here so loads of catching up. Am really enjoying them.. ( not sure if that is quite sad😮 . ) thank you.
Just the fury rising in me thinking about my teen daughter being murdered and dumped, then having people say they had sex with her and she lied about her age, that she was a prostitute, etc. .....and I mean if that happened NOW, when she's 17, never mind when she was 14!!!
I get the impression that authorities are not that much interested in pursuing the murders. Not good. 😢 those women matter‼
😯what in the entire hell???!!
I get mistaken for other people and it does get annoying but I tolerate it.
Fascinating and really makes you wonder about the conviction but there are some persuasive bits of evidence. Not an easy one though.
I remember this so much. I went to Kettering schools too and this wasn't far from me at all. It put fear in me for sure, I've wondered sometimes if the woman who said she saw her after she was killed could have possibly been me as we were about the same age and we looked a bit alike, back then anyways. Shoulder length wavy hair, braces just a lot of similarities.
Too many girls in our area were and have been murdered and even still missing, Erica Baker for instance. Maybe 2miles apart in distance and the irony even more is the suspected person who knows what took place, his name is Christian as well. Christian Gabriel. What a sad coincidence. Those mens names have biblical connotations and they're killers, albeit alleged killer on Gabriel's part.
Rest easy young ladies. You didn't deserve your fate. 💔
Could you do a video on the paranormal stuff that happened in Japan after the tsunami? Like the weird ghost footage of someone trying to climb into a taxi before dissolving into thin air?
I've liked this idea for a while. It's been covered a few times, but I'll see if there are any cases that haven't been covered.
@@CuriousWorldProductions Yeah, I've found it hard to find many details, but I figured as you've got more experience going deep dives, you'd have better luck
@@NiaJustNia Ok, you've got me thinking.
@@CuriousWorldProductions If you do manage (might even require reaching out to some Japanese speakers/translators, or even youtubers), if you ever need help with things that are in Welsh (or even some Scottish Gaelic), I'm game to help you out 💪🏻
Also as you like history, despite the fact it's not spooky, I would recommend the book "The Burglar Caught by a Skeleton, and other Singular Tales of The Victorian Press."
Because it comprises of news articles, it's good for quick reads, or binging the entire book in a sitting. Although don't do what I did and read it in a library, then get almost thrown out for howling with laughter at an article about two circus performers (bearded lady, and a snake lady) getting in a fight, and the bludgeoning weapons of choice being a cast iron frying pan vs a live boa constrictor being used like a mace.
Lawyers like Lieberman make me sick to my stomach.
How in the hell do you mistake a human skull for animal???!!! Wow just wow
If it was a partial skull it could be mistaken more easily. I found part of a deer jaw once and it looked almost human so I can see how it might work the other way.
Latest video private?
I had a copyright strike, so I'm hoping to pay my way out of it. As soon as it's sorted I'll make it public again.
@@CuriousWorldProductions I'm sorry to hear that - I've no idea what's involved in content creation, so it hadn't occurred to me that would be the issue.
Best of luck getting it sorted - I hope it doesn't cost you too much revenue.
Unfortunately I'm not in any position to contribute to the cause - hope that changes soon.
Wells was probably guilty AND cops pull shady sh*t all the time. Both can be true.

She was murdered by a local mobster because she was working in his massage parlor as a call girl. He paid the tge prosecutor and judge off. I think it's fair to mention that this mobster was connected to The Living Room and that he was a major sponsor of Fraternal Order of Police events especially after the shut him down for prostitution. Dennis Lieberman had a woman who signed an sworn affidavit that said she witnessed her husband beat Cathy to death for not working out as a call girl and there was an FBI agent willing to testify to corroborate her story. You know when the FBI is involved that it has weight. However, the motion wound up being denied after the mob intimidated the lady....$$$$ talks
And mom gets a pass for letting a 14 yo girl out alone, going to bf's, and generally not having any normal boundaries.
Nice victim blaming.
@@DS-um9hi Oh, be ridiculous! Clearly, being allowed to act like an adult didn't work out well. Sorry for the girl, but mom should have been charged with neglect.
@@scallopohare9431 hopefully if you are ever a victim of a crime you have support of people, rather than people wagging their finger blaming you for it.
As for now you're an apologist for a murderer, nice one.
@@DS-um9hi How on earth you think I am excusing murder is beyond understanding. Clearly, if the girl had a curfew, she would not have been available to her killer. Her mom is not a victim, but an enabler.
@@scallopohare9431 Since you are discussing hypotheticals, if the girl had broken the curfew? Would she still be to blame? Victim blaming apologist.
Bail and parole must be completely eliminated from ciivil society. We also need many, many more prisons.
They should not be revoked for non-violent crimes.

I was in shock when they actually convicted the family members of the massacre of Pike county Ohio I guess with international coverage they had to convict them because of the image they had to do the right thing, but until then they just picked and chose the victims and sentence them to harsh punishment uh Ohio duh, and the derailment was Karma that is what I was told. Same goes for Indiana.
Thank you CW. RIP innocent girls. I hope their loved ones find peace too.🙏💔🪽
Oh! Thanks for the upload, Curious World..😊👍💖
