The Killing of Cathy Sano

  • Last year I covered the sad story of Sherry Byrne, the 22-year-old woman from Hamilton County, Ohio who was kidnapped and murdered by David Brewer, a man she believed to be her friend. These horrible events unfolded in March of 1985. While researching that case, I came across another, which took me down an equally difficult path of research. The case of Cathy Sano came to light in February of 1982, mere miles from where Sherry’s life was taken three years later. It was another Ohio-based fight for justice that ran parallel to the Sherry Byrne story for years to come.

Cathy was a dear and wonderful friend whom I miss so very much. We always had such a great time together at the doughnut shop. After she disappeared I always had a feeling in my gut that Mark and Dave Loomis knew something about her disappearance. I grew up with the Loomis brothers and knew them very well and always knew when they were lying about something or hiding something. No one knew how much I liked Cathy. When all the other kids in school would pick on me, she was always the one who would make me feel better. On the last day of school, Cathy and another girl were doing something that they both could have gotten into serious trouble over, which I saw them do, and I promised both of them I wouldn't say anything. I never told anyone about it, and still won't. The murder of Cathy was one of the most horrible things I had ever lived through. We thought Wells would die in imprison, and we were all so upset when they let him out a few years ago. Thank you so much for making this video. It's nice to see that someone remembers Cathy so many years later.

Did you know William Alley who found her skull? What did you think (and what were people saying) about him claiming he thought it was an animal skull? -Not trying to suggest he had anything to do with the murder; I just found it pretty sick that he took it and showed it off. Also if he thought it was an animal skull then why DID he eventually contact police about it?

I remember this so much. I went to Kettering schools too and this wasn't far from me at all. It put fear in me for sure, I've wondered sometimes if the woman who said she saw her after she was killed could have possibly been me as we were about the same age and we looked a bit alike, back then anyways. Shoulder length wavy hair, braces just a lot of similarities.
Too many girls in our area were and have been murdered and even still missing, Erica Baker for instance. Maybe 2miles apart in distance and the irony even more is the suspected person who knows what took place, his name is Christian as well. Christian Gabriel. What a sad coincidence. Those mens names have biblical connotations and they're killers, albeit alleged killer on Gabriel's part.
Rest easy young ladies. You didn't deserve your fate. 💔

Also as you like history, despite the fact it's not spooky, I would recommend the book "The Burglar Caught by a Skeleton, and other Singular Tales of The Victorian Press."
Because it comprises of news articles, it's good for quick reads, or binging the entire book in a sitting. Although don't do what I did and read it in a library, then get almost thrown out for howling with laughter at an article about two circus performers (bearded lady, and a snake lady) getting in a fight, and the bludgeoning weapons of choice being a cast iron frying pan vs a live boa constrictor being used like a mace.

She was murdered by a local mobster because she was working in his massage parlor as a call girl. He paid the tge prosecutor and judge off. I think it's fair to mention that this mobster was connected to The Living Room and that he was a major sponsor of Fraternal Order of Police events especially after the shut him down for prostitution. Dennis Lieberman had a woman who signed an sworn affidavit that said she witnessed her husband beat Cathy to death for not working out as a call girl and there was an FBI agent willing to testify to corroborate her story. You know when the FBI is involved that it has weight. However, the motion wound up being denied after the mob intimidated the lady....$$$$ talks
