4/5 oz is way too thin. Making mine with full saddle skirting.

Absolutely! Some people want this for a functional wear, some more for aesthetic. Choosing the leather that works best for you is the right answer! Happy crafting!

That leather is very lightweight and floppy. I'd do a slightly thicker and firmer leather to allow for carving, and molding.

Absolutely! Whether you're going for aesthetic or functionality, different leathers would be appropriate. Feel free to use what works best for you! Happy crafting!

Has anyone tried the finished armor on? A lot of the medieval-armor discourse I've seen might suggest there'd be problems with this design (shoulders are pretty wide, so they might cut into your neck if you life you arm up; the torso's one solid piece, which might prevent you from bending over at the waist).
I know there are some examples that don't have this problem, but just looking at this I can't be certain if it'd be a problem or not.

Hey, allrewil! Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts! The bulk of the body is actually two separate pieces, riveted together (although the example in the beginning was a modified version of this pattern). As with all wearable patterns, there's no true "one size fits all" sort of situation and we highly recommend doing a test run out of a less expensive material (like cloth). Light water forming can help fit the pattern to the specific wearer as well. There are all sorts of options, and while we wouldn't technically recommend this for a beginner, it's a good jumping off point for many. We hope you try it and would love to hear more of your feedback if you do! Happy crafting!

Im making it tnow and you arent wrong - this is a basic option that will not be the most comfortable. More elaborate sets that have more articulation would be more comfortable and nicer for longer wear. Serious cosplayers or LARPers might want to go a differen route but this is agood start for my son who wants to go to a ren faire or use as a (labor intensive) haloween costume.

I wish there was a digital pattern from this one. I living in the Netherlands so the shipping cost will be expensive 🥲

While I cannot speak to whether or not we will be releasing it as a download, have you checked our Tandy Leather Europe website? Might shipping from our store in Spain be more manageable?

How would you adjust the pattern for us bigger folks

    • @TandyLeatherCo

The pattern includes sizing up to XL (chest measurement of 62-68" and waist measurement of 54-56"). If you'd need something larger than that it would be time to take the pattern and do some testing! There are a number of methods about sizing up and down for wearables, but nothing is really guaranteed without doing some extra patterning.
I hope this helps, and feel free to look at the exact measurements of sizes on our product page: tandyleather.com/products/chest-armor-paper-pattern
      Happy crafting!

It comes with 4 size options based on chest and waist measurements. I just bought one.
