- “When Jose Rizal died from the bullets of martyrdom fired by the Guardia Civil on December 30, 1896, his body was hastily removed from the plains facing Manila Bay and literally dumped in an open hole in what was then -- and still today -- Paco Cemetery. It was an unmarked grave. He had no hero’s welcome no accolade. The body remained there -- clothes, shoes and all -- until his younger sister, Narcisa, found out that his remains were hastily buried there after he was executed.
She had gone to all the cemeteries of Manila looking for the remains of Rizal in vain. On the way back, through the open gate of the Paco Cemetery, she saw some soldiers of the guardia civil. This gave her a hint. She entered the cemetery and after much searching found a freshly dug grave covered with earth. She gave the grave-digger some money and placed a plaque with the initials of her brother in reverse, R.P.J. -- Rizal, Protacio Jose.”

“Originally built in the late 18th century as a burial place for favored families of Intramuros, Paco Cemetery was completed in 1822 and also used for the burial of cholera victims. Aside from the national hero Jose Rizal, the three martyr priests, Jose Mariano Gomez, Jose Apolonio Burgos and Jacinto Zamora were also buried there-an ironic coincidence of history! Rizal’s second social novel, "El Filibusterismo," was dedicated to the martyrdom of these three Filipino priests. The earlier martyrs were also the driving force behind Jose’s own sense of nationalism and his brother Paciano’s strong support. Here in Paco Cemetery, they were together.” (Source: news.abs-cbn.c...)
“BEHIND TWO LAYERS OF STONE walls in the middle of bustling Manila is a quiet cemetery dating back to the days of Spanish rule. Built in 1807, Paco Park was originally designed to be a final resting place for the colonial elite; the inner walls of the circular garden still houses the marble crypt markers that bear their family names.
The cemetery was later expanded in 1822 to accommodate victims of the city’s devastating cholera outbreak, with a second wall built to enclose the newer graves. “ (source: www.atlasobscu...)

The three priest martyrs (GOMBURZA) were not excommunicated and were not declared as heretics! They were buried INSIDE the Paco Roman Catholic Cemetery like Dr. Jose Rizal who died as a Catholic.
I admire your work. You are good. Carry on with a train of thought. Do not hesitate to speak and tell the story. Any other remaining structure in Old Manila? Good job!
Much appreciated.

Good day po, May I ask is there an entrance fee po sa Paco Park/Cemetery? Thanks 😊

MAJOHA MADNESS BROUGHT ME HERE.
MaJoHa- An unfortunate lead but Thank you for leaving your mark. Stay safe!
Weddings in a cemetary?
Yes. Paco Park has a beautiful garden with historical significance and is no longer used a cemetery.
I read somewhere that it was according to Rizal's wishes that his grave was simple and that it was labelled RPJ.
I would like to read that, @JP Anonuevo. It’s different from the one that I read that it was the call of Rizal’s younger to place RPJ. I like learning new things.
Rizal's wish was to be buried in a simple grave at Paang Bundok ( now La Loma Cemetery) but he did not instruct that his grave be marked RPJ. That was her sister's decision after he died.
Been wanting to go there and visit RPJ's grave and didn't know Gomburza's grave were there as well.
It’s worth your time specially if you’re into chilling with history, @Joseph Darwin Co. Paco Park is so refreshingly peaceful specially in the morning.
@@TaraLets agree. Hopefully, I can visit the park soon.
Rizal's fiance Leonor Rivera was once buried there at Paco Park..too bad isa ang grave nya sa casualty nung world war 2.
