Very few pre-recorded Beta tapes have the linear track in stereo, but oddly enough that Beta Hi-Fi demo tape does. I have a Sony GCS-50 which has both hi-fi and linear stereo, it's also an industrial model. I have two of these SLO-325s but neither work well- in fact the tracking control on one doesn't even work.

I once almost got a Beta Hi-Fi deck for $10 from the local Goodwill.
Except it was listed on their eBay account, as an auction, and I got sniped at the last second.

There's no pitch control. There's speed control that invariably changes the pitch.

I'm watching For All Mankind. Apparently the space race in that universe inspired Japan to put out the Sony SLO-325 in 1974. Of course the movie industry wouldn't even release tapes for the astronauts. They still used 8 track on the moon.

Audio dub on a linear track VCR(VHS or Beta) does NOT require you to insert any new video "filler"! All Audio dub does is rerecord the audio track(you lose the original audio though).
I don’t remember my exact words, but there does need to be something filling the video end of things. That’s all I was saying.
@@OddityArchive The video track is left alone. Audio Dub only affects the sound by recording new audio. The pulse track which controls the video is also left alone. The purpose for having Audio Dub on those early machines was not really all that clear but most who did use the feature, used it to record a narration onto their home movie tapes(provided they were prepared to lose the original audio, of course).

This should be interesting. I've never seen a Beta deck in person, or watched a Beta tape (other than on UA-cam, which in my opinion, doesn't count).
There is a band called "VHS or Beta", they are pretty good. At least I like'em... Why was Betamax called that anyway, and not Alphamax?!? They put themselves in second position with that name!
It referred to the shape that the tape was threaded around the heads.
@@TheMediaHoarder Thanx, never knew that! Was barely exposed to it growing up, and in college I got confused when told the huge TV tapes were also called Beta. Its thread makes total sense.
