Abbott and Costello is my favorite comedy team of all time. I grew up with them and they would always be happy icing on good days and diminish the blues on not so good days. Their timing was outstanding. Unfortunately, we'll never hear the likes of them again except watching their reruns, witch NEVER get old.
"HEY ABBOT!" I grew up watching the antics of Lou and Bud every day after school in the late 50's. I don't think I ever missed an episode nor did I ever miss a film of theirs either; "Abbot and Costello Meet the Wolfman", "Abbot and Costello Meet...(whomever)". Their adventures and misadventures contained nothing but good, clean fun and entertainment. Those of us who are lifetime fans know that Hollywood will never, ever be able to reproduce anything comparable to Bud and Lou. Thanks for all the laughs guys!
I remember watching reruns as a teen in the late 70’s where I stole lines and told them to my high school buddies. I can’t help but cry watching this story. God bless him and his family!
I never knew how many children he had, or that he had a one year old son that died. It was unbelievable how he was able to go on as a comic after such a tragedy.
Only hours after his son died Lou Costello went on the air anyway! He told Lou Jr. tonight he would hear has dad's voice on the radio and he was determined to keep that promise wherever the little boy was! At the end of that broadcast Bud Abbott broke character and told the studio audience about the tragedy...!

It's sad to know that his daughter lost him when she was 10. I know how that feels. My mother died when I was 10 of leukemia. She was only 50. It's sad Lou only lived to be 52. I never knew it was his daughter in the mummy. So sad that such a wonderful actor, and father would be lost to us all so young. I'm 64 and grew up with these guys. Lou was my favorite. I cherish all my dvds of this comedy team. THE BEST EVER!!
On the 100th anniversary year of his birth, I got to hear his youngest daughter speak about her dad; she was doing an anniversary tour; she had stories and memorabilia, and of course various items to buy; also got to visit his hometown and see the statue they have of him. I read he was quite athletic and a good boxer in his youth, and he and Abbott sold more US Bonds for the war than anyone, selling a few million dollars worth over a very short period of time. I think I read those bonds would been about a billion dollars or so today. Thanks for the video!
Yes then the US Goverment wiped him out financially for some back taxes. The IRS did the same to Joe Louis who gave boxing exhibitions during the War and donated all of the proceeds to the war effort. He did not bother paying taxes because he donated all of the money. The IRS did not care, IRS have always been bastards.

The most surprising thing to me was finding out one of his children died at such a young age. Children are supposed to outlive their parents. Lou was one good comedian!
He sounds like a genuinely all around nice person that didn’t let fame and fortune change him. So down to earth and refreshing. I had no idea he lost a son who was just a baby. So heartbreaking. Of course he would never be the same! And then we all lost him at a young age too compared to most adults. His legacy lives on

There was a glimmer of Lou Costello's dramatic acting talents when he guest-starred on a "Wagon Train" episode. Costello played the part of a well-meaning, but pitiful person afflicted with alcoholism, where his relationship with a child had soured due to his drinking problem in that TV western.
Thanks for posting this;...good to know that Lou and Bud remained good friends. Here in Europe A & C were appreciated, but underrated for purely cultural reasons. However, anyone who loves comedy will seek them out and ensure their well-deserved immortality.
In the late 70s and early 80s, every Sunday at 11:30 am, my dad and I would watch whatever Abbot and Costello movie was being shown on WPIX New York on Channel 11. I remember my father telling me during one episode that Lou had died, I cried all that day....That was nearly 25 years after his actual death, but it was still so hard to hear. He was an amazing comedian and an even greater man that touched so many.
My family knew Lou Costello (Cristillo) from school days in Paterson, New Jersey. My brother still remarks that Lou had such soft hands, when he shook hands.
Our family and friends lost so many beloved people in 1959. Lou was and his beloved wife. My paternal grandmother also died that year, but, like Lou, my cousin drowned in the family pool while the family was attending her funeral. Our paternal uncle was also hit by a train.
Two of the funniest men who stand beside other titans of comedy greatest in Hollywood films of funniest acts on the golden years of the last century. We'll never see their like again except in their movies that will go on forever as long as these movies are kept safe for generations to watched.
What breaks my heart even more is that I had no clue that Lou had died in 1959, the same goes for George Reeves who died in the same year. I was born in 1956 and started watching both Abbot and Costello and The Adventures of Superman in the early sixties on our old 21 inch black and white Westinghouse. So my point is that what I was watching on TV, were only old reruns of these shows. I thought that (in my young and innocent mind) they were still alive and well and I didn't learn of my favorite actors' deaths until I got a little older. 🤧
Wow, i couldn't picture Lou being serious . And what a terrific father. I grew up on these two guys. I actually haven't seen all of their movies, but the half hour segments were terrific. My favorite? 13X 7 is 28. My wife and I were at our daughters grade school many years 8:02 ago. I showed her teacher on the blackboard 13 X 7 is 28 and she didnt find it the least funny, the old battle ax! It was funny then and its funny now!!
Poor Lou's heart condition actually occured..long before his fatal heart attack on March 3,1959. He had developed Rheumatic fever in 1943 and it plagued Poor Lou for the rest of his life.
After hearing about so many of the old time Hollywood stars being drunkards. unfaithful, and self-loving losers, it is refreshing to see that Lou Costello was a good husband and Father. I am also relieved to hear that his partner, Bud Abbott got along so well with Costello, unlike Martin and Lewis. Abbott and Costello--truly an American treasure.
I love to watch their movies. My favorite movies are when they meet Frankenstein, and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I didn’t know he had a son, and I didn’t know both Lou and his son died so young. ☮️💟
Just saw the movie "Hold That Ghost" a few weeks ago. Hadn't seen it in many decades. Still funny even when I remembered all the jokes. I was absolutely amazed at the Who's on First routine
having arguments amongst friends and the differences amongst them only makes you human neither one of them could’ve worked without each other. I knew it from the first time they worked together that they were a pair like a quarter heads and tails friends forever, they were yes, and they comedy duo that can never be replace. They were one of a kind.
Nothing surprised me. LOU Costello was my favorite comedian. I used to do his skits, copy and mimic him. You have to be a special kind of person to make a 8 year old laugh until he passes out!
There are so many celebrities you hear about who are actually horrible people in real life. It's good to see a few of them who were not, sad that he pass away so young.
I remember watching the Saturday reruns of Abbott and Costello in high school in the early to mid 1970s! In between homework, of course! They were truly, really CLEVER!
Definitely! We feel the same way. Thank you for sharing your sentiments and for watching our content. What other types of video would you like to see on Facts Verse?
Lou's silliness brings a smile to my face each time I watch a show or listen to "Who's on First". And the skits were all "G" rated. I recall in elementary school we had "dances" and always with an Abbott and Costello short for entertainment.
I actually read Chris Costello's book 'Lou's on First: The Tragic Life of Hollywood's Greatest Clown Warmly Recounted by his Youngest Child'. One thing you forgot about this story was how the IRS came after this comedy duo in the 1950's and the IRS drained their lifesavings from both of Bud and Lou. The duo even lost a lot of their money through card games with strangers. In the book, Chris recounted how But and Lou saw each other as neighbors, not as friends. It was purely a business relationship. Secondly, in the book, she also recounted how Lou could not lie to movie fans. They asked where he lived, he told them, his phone number, he gave it to them, these 'poseurs' came to their house, he had to entertain them. Only when Lou died, did Chris have the guts to kick these poseurs out of their home. You should read that book, to correct the clear inaccuracies in your video.
I've been Friends with Chris Costello for years.and after reading her bio on her famous father and talking with her..via the internet..and on the phone..I never believed that her dad and Bud Abbott hated each other.
I visited Lou Costello's grave in East Los Angeles. He is in a Catholic mausoleum. His wife is next to him and his infant son is just a few feet away. Curly Howard and Shemp Howard of the Three Stooges are at a Jewish cemetery right across the street from where Lou is. I made a day of it and visited them all. I grew up watching Bud and Lou during my childhood even though they were before my time. I really miss this era of comedy. I will always cherish them.
He was born in Paterson NJ just like me! He even gave the kids in the city a pool... great guy. If you listen carefully he mentions Paterson a few times in his shows.
They both met sad endings 😢 what they failed to address was how the IRS took everything. This from a pair of great guys who on their own at their own expense went overseas to perform USO shows for the troops
Didn't know oldest daughter died of a stroke 😕, but Bud and Lou were my favorite growing I recorded their movie when I could to watch them over and over again
I would have felt the same as everyone involved in Lou’s life after his passing. Bud, his daughters, his widowed wife… every single one of them. I like both Abbott and Costello, and I think, like millions of others, they were hysterical. But deep down, I always knew something terrible had happened behind the scenes in Lou’s life when I first saw “Who’s on First”. Losing a child, especially one so young, is always heartbreaking. In the end, they’re back together once again; making countless others laugh in the great comedy stage in the sky. May they both rest in peace. 🥹
I loved watching Abbot & Costello movies. My faves are Time of Their Lives and Hold That Ghost (which I cannot find anywhere to watch). I wish UA-cam would post it.
Is it true that he had performed the same night that his son passed away? If so, being a life-long musician myself, that is the greatest display of strength and fortitude that I could ever imagine!.
Weirdly, my favorite film of Abbot and Costello, Time of their Lives, was made during a disagreement about money. I appreciate it because it gave Bud Abbott a rare chance to indulge in pratfalls. I think I remember hearing that Abbot like the movie for that reason as well.
Abbott and Costello were a part of my happy childhood memories. When the reruns came on TV all us kids would sit in front of the tv and laugh and laugh and laugh!

I thought that (in my young and innocent mind) they were still alive and well and I didn't learn of my favorite actors' deaths until I got a little older. 🤧
Me too ,I was born in 55 ,so I thought the same way .
Thanks for that FYI on the Best Comedy Team and a family man for a great family 😊
One of my all-time favorites. Watched every movie countless times, though he had been long gone by then. Few of any came close to his comedic genuis.
Thanks for watching! We're glad to know that you love our video. What other types of video would you like to see on Facts Verse?
None of this surprised me. And thank you for being one of the few UA-cam videos that was not negative, or focused on tearing down someone.
You're very much welcome! We're glad to know that you love our video. If we may ask, what other types of video would you like to see on Facts Verse?
Wow, i couldn't picture Lou being serious . And what a terrific father. I grew up on these two guys. I actually haven't seen all of their movies, but the half hour segments were terrific. My favorite? 13X 7 is 28. My wife and I were at our daughters grade school many years 8:02 ago. I showed her teacher on the blackboard 13 X 7 is 28 and she didnt find it the least funny, the old battle ax! It was funny then and its funny now!!
Us too lol! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. We love Lou and miss him dearly.
I miss both Lou Costello and Bud Abbott. They made me laugh !
We feel the same way 😥
THE TIMING THAT THEY HAD ON , "WHO'S ON FIRST" , WAS AMAZING ! THAT ROUTINE WASN'T EXACTLY SLOW !
Poor Lou's heart condition actually occured..long before his fatal heart attack on March 3,1959. He had developed Rheumatic fever in 1943 and it plagued Poor Lou for the rest of his life.
Abbott and Costello will always be classic comedy gold.
Only the good die young. 🙏 RIP
Abbott and Costello are my favorite comedy team. Grew up watching them every Sunday
The other part is how badly the IRS screwed them over, also covered in the movie
Yes, we remember it too! Thank you so much for the trip down memory lane. What other types of video would you like to see on our channel?
After hearing about so many of the old time Hollywood stars being drunkards. unfaithful, and self-loving losers, it is refreshing to see that Lou Costello was a good husband and Father. I am also relieved to hear that his partner, Bud Abbott got along so well with Costello, unlike Martin and Lewis. Abbott and Costello--truly an American treasure.
Love Abbott and Costello, friends forever ❤ I have great memories watching them in movies.😊
Us too! Glad to know that you're a fan. What other types of video would you like to see?
they were very popular on USO tours, great performers no matter what shows they did
So true! Thanks for bringing back memories. What other types of video would you like to see on our channel?
I love to watch their movies. My favorite movies are when they meet Frankenstein, and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
I didn’t know he had a son, and I didn’t know both Lou and his son died so young. ☮️💟
Just saw the movie "Hold That Ghost" a few weeks ago. Hadn't seen it in many decades. Still funny even when I remembered all the jokes. I was absolutely amazed at the Who's on First routine
Our favorites too, you've got fine taste! What other types of video would you like to see?

The story of how George Burns and Gracie Allen met and the triumph and fails of their careers together. Thank you.
☮️💟
having arguments amongst friends and the differences amongst them only makes you human neither one of them could’ve worked without each other. I knew it from the first time they worked together that they were a pair like a quarter heads and tails friends forever, they were yes, and they comedy duo that can never be replace. They were one of a kind.
I always heard that Abbott and Costello hated each other in real life away from the studio. I’m happy to hear that was just a rumour.
Nothing surprised me. LOU Costello was my favorite comedian. I used to do his skits, copy and mimic him. You have to be a special kind of person to make a 8 year old laugh until he passes out!
Abbot and Costello the greatest comedy duo of ALL time, period! RIP legends.
I love watching his show. Didn’t know about his Son I knew he had some other children. Sad but I did love the story. Sounds like a great man.

When Abbott and Costello passed we lost two of the comedy greats. I still watch their movies often.
I knew a lot of it. But I am so pleased that Budd an Lou remained friends. I was surprised they were not paid 50/50
This channel is known for some pretty flagrant errors and omissions on many celebrities.
* I remember seeing Lou's daughter on a TV special tribute to Lou following his death where her singing career began. 😅
We remember it too! Thank you for bringing back memories ❤
It’s nice to learn that the two men were really on good terms. How the myth of animosity between them both is a mystery to most of their fans.
hanks for watching! We're glad to know that you love our video. What other types of video would you like to see on Facts Verse?
He was born in Paterson NJ just like me! He even gave the kids in the city a pool... great guy. If you listen carefully he mentions Paterson a few times in his shows.
Who's on first was the best baseball comedy ever 😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks for posting this video. R.I.P. Lou.
They both met sad endings 😢 what they failed to address was how the IRS took everything. This from a pair of great guys who on their own at their own expense went overseas to perform USO shows for the troops
Losing my Son at 23 was hard enough, but if it happened when he was just a baby i think that would have taken all the starch out of me. 🕊
Well said, we strongly concur! Thank you for watching our content and for sharing your thoughts. What other types of video would you like to see?
Best comedy duo ever. Didn’t know bout his little boy. What a tragedy. Their together again tho. God bless
We absolutely agree! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. We miss this duo 😭
So Sad Loved him Always Watched The Show As A Kid
Losing Lou’s beloved Son. I had not idea.
I would like to hear about Rosalind Russell. She was a wonderful actress.
Great suggestion, thank you! We won't promise you anything but we'll definitely look into it. Watch out for our next video!
I learned so many things about Lou Costello that I never knew before !
Didn't know oldest daughter died of a stroke 😕, but Bud and Lou were my favorite growing I recorded their movie when I could to watch them over and over again
GREAT VIDEO THANK YOU FOR POSTING 😊😊😊😊
I would have felt the same as everyone involved in Lou’s life after his passing. Bud, his daughters, his widowed wife… every single one of them. I like both Abbott and Costello, and I think, like millions of others, they were hysterical. But deep down, I always knew something terrible had happened behind the scenes in Lou’s life when I first saw “Who’s on First”. Losing a child, especially one so young, is always heartbreaking. In the end, they’re back together once again; making countless others laugh in the great comedy stage in the sky. May they both rest in peace. 🥹
Purported last words. "That's the best strawberry shake I ever had." Loved his routines with Mr. Botchagalupe.
Purported. Made up by Eddie Sherman. Sleaze to the end.
Lou's actual last words were, "I might be more comfortable...."
@@MrSnappinit whose Eddie Sherman?
So sad he was taken way too soon from his family and the world. Always loved him and Bud. Bless him as a husband...father...and Buds best friend.❤❤❤❤
I loved watching Abbot & Costello movies. My faves are Time of Their Lives and Hold That Ghost (which I cannot find anywhere to watch). I wish UA-cam would post it.
Us too! What other types of video would you like to see on our channel?
"Who's On First?". Skit was parodied by Johnny Carson and Rocky and Bullwinkle. True test of a classic.
Interesting, thanks for sharing! We'll watch the parody ☺☺
Is it true that he had performed the same night that his son passed away? If so, being a life-long musician myself, that is the greatest display of strength and fortitude that I could ever imagine!.
I heard that Bud Abbott and Stan Laurel became good friends.
Legends of my youth years, remembering Abbott and Lou costello, meet Frankenstein, and meet the mummy, were classic!
Enjoyed Abbott and Costello. Great team.💯💯
Im glad. Never missed their movies on Sunday mornings for years.
I read a few times that Moe Howard always felt that Lou's routine borrowed way too much from Curly.
Interesting, thanks for sharing! What other types of video would you like to see?
Moe needs to chill. They ALL "borrowed" material that was hundreds of years old and revamped with their own personal flair.
I never felt that he was doing an imitation/ripoff of Curly at all.
Didn't know Lou was only 52. Sad. Loved both of them and still watch their movies.
We all do this .. Have to act a certain way on the job, and when we come home then we are "real". Is this suppose to be surprising? yawn.
