I had a series II back in the day and never had a moments problem with it... I kept it well maintained and a specialist occasionally added small updates.
Nice one John - plenty about still and at a range of prices to suit lots of different budgets. Meanwhile, Share more of our Classics Dream together here.. www.arrythestag.com/saturday-sockets All the best Kind regards TR T
The sound of yesteryear, its funny, if your from a certain generation even if you hear this engine off in the distance some place you have to smile to yourself because you know.
Great filming ! A good engine IF maintained correctly as an ex garage mechanic we never had issues with engines because they were in for a service ! Sadly early cars did have problems with sediment , but most stags today are well maintained and sorted , sound created buy firing order , like Buick nailhead, up to 1966 , it just sounds different from Chevy , rover , etc
Agree. I had one in 1995 - it was well-munted. It took about 4K to rebuild the engine. New transmission, new interior. Once done it was definately an eye-catching car. Once rebuilt - with good maintenance it did over 100,000Km with me when I sold it on. Still going too.
I know Stags have their doubters but in my humble opinion, the the Triumph V8 is probably the best sounding V8 ever conceived The only thing that would have made this sound effect show better would have been the manual with overdrive atherosclerosis than the Auto Nice one👍🏻
You can get overdrives on automatics too, I have three borg Warner 35s with j type overdrives on the back giving better cruising and economy , iv seen Borg Warner cable operating ones too more common in the states ,
Hiya - a bit like Eric Morcambe and the Andre Previn sketch.. the rev counter is working.. just not necessarily at the same time we were looking at it in the video!!!! Check Eric and Ernie out here ua-cam.com/video/uMPEUcVyJsc/v-deo.htmlsi=H3Xb4n7d95pUj1xj All the best TR T
Having viewed 4 Stags lately at all levels from a little rough to it needs a priest not a mechanic….this sort of psychological sound torture is just down right cruel Tony 😂
Bless you my Son, you are forgiven! Have you tried Paul the Guru and Stag Apostle in Medstead yet?.. I'm sure he will be able to help! And I'll say Halleluja to that!! Best TR T ..who moves in mysterious ways!
Hiya Logan - I understand your view but in reality the main problem with the Stag V8 was with BL's Quality Control (or the lack of it!) e.g. Casting sand left in the blocks prior to being built (still being discovered today!), causing hot spots; causing blocked galleys and blowing head gaskets. Dealers fixed the gaskets only for the over heating to happen all over again a few months later! This was one of the main reasons the car finished early (production only from 1970-1977) and it got chucked out of the USA for unreliability. Once those things were fixed however we find that the engines are now very reliable (as long as well serviced, with timing chains replaced at every 35k miles or so). And believe it or not, there are still 46% of all Stags (25,939) ever made that are still on the road today and thriving (and driving big miles some of them) after 55 years. And the 1980's trend for swapping the Triumph engine out to a Rover V8 unit has long since ceased and in fact swung back the other way, so that these days, there is a high appreciation for the original Triumph V8 unit. All the best Logan - feel free to join us on a weekend for more at www.arrythestag.com/saturday-sockets Kind regards TR Tony
@ thanks for the response man! don’t get me wrong they’re cool but i still see those issues to be bad. have u had any issues with the valley water pump or the bearings being too small?
…making you at least 70 years old!? There is a geriatric character called Victor Meldrew from a British TV comedy which you bring to mind… We all laugh at him too
That car screams, "Get out of my way... I'm having fun now."
V8 rumble always makes the day better🙂
No wonder you've a smile from ear to ear! 👍
Nice .... one of my favourite cars as a boy .... still looks good today.
One of THE best sounding engines, period ...my jaw dropped when I first heard one as a kid.
The epitome of a V8 sound.
I had a series II back in the day and never had a moments problem with it... I kept it well maintained and a specialist occasionally added small updates.
Thanks for that. I’d love to be able to own a Stag!❤

Thanks Richard and yes I guess an OD manual would be good too.. It would be interesting to compare the two! Best TR T

More successful and enjoyable than your last trip in a red 70s Triumph with the Mrs !
Trying to justify putting a V8 in the ‘big six’ ? ;)
Tempting must say!!! Best TR T

Looking for a Stag, thought manual but how does the auto drive, any owners out there?
Auto box is very reliable but not as quick as manual overdrive. But does not effect engine tune while driving
Seemed to be going fast until the tipper lorry overtook. 😕
The Stag held back waiting for a gap while coming off the slip road.
Get it on a bigger road and open it up properly!
We'll defo do it again - never get tired of the sound!! 'Appy Days!
too bad that engine is probably the worst v8 ever made
