It's so hard to pick a favorite song by Zevon since all of his work was amazing, but there is something about this song that haunts me. What a masterful songwriter he was.
WZ was one of very few artists who had his own, utterly unique place in music. In some ways he was to music what Hunter Thompson was to literature. I suppose that explains their friendship.
@Slightlybent My sentiments exactly...One of my favorites for sure "Ain't no room on board for the insincere" this song is about his fans and loyal following.
Happy Birthday, Warren! You were always ageless and changeless within yourself, your words and music utter perfection other writers could only envy from afar... from way, way back in your rearview mirror. "Eat my dust!" you seemed to say as your complex music wrapped itself flawlessly around your haunting lyrics.....and they both wrapped themselves around our hearts, souls and minds. Gods, Warren....you turned every day into a birthday party for the whole. goddam world. And you were the gift that kept on--KEEPS ON--giving. I'll always be here on January 24, thanking you for my birthday present which I receive 365 days a year...without fail. Rock the Pillars of Heaven, Birthday Boy! They tell me I'll be seeing you again. real soon!
+Jiggs111 Thank you, very much, fellow Zevonite and Mutineer. And yes..."They" are right. Just received not my second, but my 98th opinion(possible exaggeration alert!) But truly, its alright. I'm still enjoying EVERY SINGLE BITE of every single sandwich. And it's good to share WZ's birthday with those who love him and his music. Awesome day for me...for us. Rock the Pillars of Heaven , all you Zevonites out there! It's the Excitable Boy's Special Day!!!Spread the word!!!!!_
Jiggs111 Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I'm still here, but declining steadil y. But you know...I am still enjoying EVERY sandwich, and I will ...until my ride's here. Every day from here on is a gift, Jiggs...I'm living in the present..get it? lol Happy New Year to you and all my fellow Zevonites.
What range this genius had in his songwriting. I think of Bowie and a few others who could not only perform ANY sort of song but to write the things. One of my funeral 10. And I mean it would be worth it to watch and listen to such a performance on the dog house bass.
Mutineer. Renegade. Mr. Bad Example. No one can accuse this extraordinary man of not being in-your-face about what he was....IS. Warren never flinched when living Life. Yes, undoubtedly he left some collateral damage in his wake. How could he not? I suspect that, genius that he was, he often found himself perplexed that people--read here "women"--didn't understand that under his brash exterior beat the heart of a true romantic. His flame burned so brightly, no one who flew close to him could hope to come away from the encounter with their wings not having been singed. Sometimes, though, the sheer glory of such an experience is its own reward. Knowing Warren, even for a brief time, could only have been....amazing. Just as, the deeper one delves into the magic of his words and music, the closer you come to....perfection. Rock the pillars of Heaven, Warren! I'll be seeing you again soon.
+Jiggs111 I'm not being coy or mimicking Wayne and Garth when I say I'm not worthy, because, to my mind, I'm not. But let me also make it crystal clear that there is almost nothing I won't do to aid in Warren Zevon finally receiving the respect and recognition he worked so hard for in life--and was denied--and still has been denied in death. If I can help, just tell me how, and it will be done. Anything for The Excitable Boy. Anything. Meanwhile, thank you for your kind words.

I remember watching this when it originally aired. Beautiful song. Amazing voice. I miss Warren and his incredible music so much.
Wow. So moving. What a huge talent. What a loss for all of us. I wonder what WZ would write about our fucked up times now.

+Brenda Harper Great sentiments. We need you as a spokesperson to get WZ into the RocknRoll Hall of Fame

Best song ever. RIP Warren.❤
You won't get an argument from me.. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame fucked him again, he came in third in voting.. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a farce
Beautiful song, love the bass! Anyone know who the bass player is?
