man, my dad showed me scroobius pip, and when i was young we saw him live at camp bestival and he high fived my sister lol. But it was always so different from anything I'd heard to I always held an appreciation for him. And I particularly love this song because I remember my grandad, who i rarely see now, showed me videos of him. And it's just a beautiful message overall.
Thanks, I'd never heard of Tommy Cooper before this track, and I might never have seen footage of him without your video. It's nice to have good folks immortalized.
I love DtheS and ScroobP. The thing that makes me smile the most about this vid is the 'bottom half'. So many thumbs-up comments and not one 'thumbs-down'. I'm just a wee bit too young to remember TC when he was alive. The first time I'd heard tell of him (as an eight year old boy) was when he passed away on stage. One of my pals put me onto his marvellous work recently. TC is a legend and you're a cold-hearted man if you don't love him.
I love how thoughtful these songs are. What other artist would see something ilke this as beautiful and justify it so well? These pair are genui (not sure ive spelt that right). Love this, and many other songs by them.
Scroob is capable of writing stuff that literally makes all the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. He's more a philosopher than just a lyricist. Incredible.
Great song and terrific video. I saw this duo supporting Sparks last year and they were fantastic. Bought the album straight away and wasn't disappointed.
i mean the entire song.... (first time i've heard it) is amazing, and i love tommy C to this day! but from 2:51 to about 3:04 that's one of the greatest and most BEAUTIFUL lines ever said about quite frankly one of the most amazing people ever to live. Fantastic!
If we're getting technical then rap is a medium of entertainment that often uses social movement as a driving topic. It developed from people who didn't have the economic means to learn traditional music but still wished to express themselves. However, I for one don't really care if this is classed as rap, hiphop or techno. The lyrics made me think, and from that point of view it was entertaining.
While I was watching/listening to this I noticed the ad to the right of the video. It was of a computer generated woman with big breasts and tanned skin, wearing a low cut top, trimmed eyebrows, eye makeup and false lashes advertising a chat website called IMVU. I'm not sure I could have come up with a better way of making Scroob's point if I tried.
@SuperActionForceGo Thank you for your comment. As I indicated, English is not my first language. I loved Tommy Cooper as a Child and I understood him. As I indicated, I thought the voice singing in the background was making a mockery of Tommy Cooper who did not have an accent like that. Once again, I am sorry for the misunderstanding. May Tommy's soul rest in peace in Heaven!
@andyt2k That makes two of us! joined by possibly millions of others. I am not sure he used naughty words or got drunk or beat his wife. I was never present to see or hear any of that. I like millions of others loved Tommy Cooper. I was a kid when he was becoming popular. He was truly funny and I repeat never publicly drunk or vulgar, a Comedian/Magician who brought clean joy to possibly millions. Isn't this how we should remember him? rather than speculating about negative rumors about him!
@Konichiwa616 and don't forget to pick up a copy of the new album "Logic of Chance" too. Also check out the "No Commercial Breaks" album on UA-cam or Grooveshark. Sadly only 1000 copies were released, but Messrs Pip and LeSac have kindly allowed it to stay online for our collective listening pleasure. So be good sports and purchase the albums. Much love everybody :D
big up scroobius and dan... big beats and big lyrics. hip hop aint dead, it's just underground hiding from all the mainstream US bullshit like lil wayne and fuckin all gay 'gangsta' shit. does anyone with a brain still like that stuff? we all loved Biggie Dre and Pac but it really did start getting old after then.
I wonder why he says Tom died at the Palladium in Westminster when he really died at Her Majesty's Theater in the same city. Not nitpicking just curious, mad respect. Great song, Mr. Pip is a fantastic man and amazing lyricist and I can really hear le sac's influences. Great "instrumental" sounds.
@LargeBlueCircle "On 15 April 1984, Cooper collapsed from a heart attack in front of millions of television viewers, midway through his act on the London Weekend Television variety show Live From Her Majesty's, transmitted live from Her Majesty's Theatre - not, as is often reported, the London Palladium."
@LargeBlueCircle I just thought you could use the quote to express your point if you wished to, im not saying anything about what you said im just helping you back up what you are saying. I think Dan Le sac and Scroobius Pip are great and very good role models for kids like me and more artists should concentrate on guiding us abit more instead of rapping and singing about money and women, I think the song that they made that inspires most is "Get Better" it opens you up to real life more. :D
it may stand for rhythm and poetry, but for a long time the word rap has been used to mean a particular style or music genre, that being so. Whilst we were discussing this we took the word rap to be synonymous with the music genre it has come to be...not its original roots. but...from that perspective you could be right.
Why does it matter what you label it as, can't you just take it for what it is? Rap, if we must label it, is an ideal; it was originally gained popularity as tool to bring about social change, isn't that what is going on here? It doesn't matter what rap has become, this is essentially rap. That's not a bad thing; like i said, rap is a social movement.
@andyt2k I love Tommy cooper also. English is was second language. But I understood everything he ever said and was charmed and entertained by Him. I started watching him many, many years ago. I never saw him hit his Wife, or heard him use off colour words. I also heard that he was tight but I don't know any of this as a fact!! I do not understand the heavy accent in this recording. This irritating accent does not sound like a tribute to the great Tommy Cooper. May his soul rest in peace.
@DannyCBrennan Oh Course you are correct, my opinion was more than a little harsh. I am sorry! I over reacted emotionally. Tommy Cooper was one of my Hero's since I was very young, and since English is not my first language particularly as spoken in certain parts of England. I thought the background voice was making a mockery of Tommy Cooper. Please forgive my insensitive comment
Zolin Games! No it's actually two different guys, Dan Le Sac is the guy who makes the beats and Scroobius Pip is the guy rapping (although this song is more of a spoken word piece with beats), Pip got his stage name from the Edward Lear poem called "The Scroobius Pip".
to be fair, alot of Tupacs lyrics are beautiful, but I cant see the similarity, its two massively different genres, both are legends, one is alive, the other is dead.
@frbjoernLA I love Tommy, but he was a tight, heavy drinker who hit his wife, I'm pretty sure he used a few naughty words from time to time. Just because he didn't swear on TV doesn't mean someone singing about him can't. That was the point, he appealed to everyone regardless of background
well actually, there not. The way to compare the two is through the deepness both reach. Sure there both entirely different styles of hiphop, but both are on the same level with regards to what there music means to people. Its not all about guns, bling an bitches. An if you think thats all Tupac was about, you need to learn something. Tupac was the original poet in all this hiphop stuff.
The oft told story is that, when Tommy first started out, he wore a pith helmet or a safari hat. One day, he misplaced it, and when he had to perform in an egyptian themed restaurant, he swiped a fez off of one of the waiters, and he stuck with it, as it emphasized his features.
R.I.P. Tommy Cooper.
the show must go on
brilliant tribute.... Tommy C was a legend and brings great memories of my childhood!
man, my dad showed me scroobius pip, and when i was young we saw him live at camp bestival and he high fived my sister lol. Why do I have tears in this plain old American eye? Bravo!
I love DtheS and ScroobP. The thing that makes me smile the most about this vid is the 'bottom half'. So many thumbs-up comments and not one 'thumbs-down'.

This is just fantastic, totally original in a world of carbon copy music
pffff carbon, only 7 years ago
not the ...
Ever since i first heard "Thou shalt always kill" I have been addicted lol, Dan le sacs beats compliment Scoobius' lyrics so well, its amazing.
I just went to show this to a friend like 10 years after it came out and really appreciate your setting it to this video
Best thing I've ever found on UA-cam.
Soddin' Brilliant !
You tube algorithm dropping bangers lately , rip Tommy
cant wait to go watch him live in manchester went last year and going again was a great night
i mean the entire song.... (first time i've heard it) is amazing, and i love tommy C to this day! but from 2:51 to about 3:04 that's one of the greatest and most BEAUTIFUL lines ever said about quite frankly one of the most amazing people ever to live. Fantastic!
Such an Legend!
Took the family out for a meal last week. Ordered everything from the menu in French, surprised everyone. It was a Chinese restaurant.
just reading the lyrics blows you away!!
I know little else that's as beautiful as that.
this is very beautifully done, thanks Blackbookz
Loving this my fellow magicians will love it too, great work :)
Still a timelessly classic track.
2.55 - 3.05 - lyrics get no better than this - I'll hold my hands up - I can't think of 'one fucking thing more beautiful than that...'
I was watching live when he passed away on stage
stunning.
I'm not usually into this kind of music but it's dedicated to Tommy Cooper, it can't be bad.
I do miss my wife's cooking. Every chance I get. She isn't the best cook, she thinks poached eggs are illegal.
+Warren Baxter lol, what?...xD...
this is just amazing it hits me when he say's tell me one thing thats more fucking beautiful than that!!!! lol amazing!!!
everyone involved in this deserves a medal

What a track, love it Mr Pip
This is a great track man.
thank you for this there was an episode of the simpsons where Krusty almost died like this.
I listen to this song a lot... but not enough.
I fucking love Tommy Cooper.
love man. tommy was beautiful
there isn't nothing more fucking beautiful then that
While I was watching/listening to this I noticed the ad to the right of the video. It was of a computer generated woman with big breasts and tanned skin, wearing a low cut top, trimmed eyebrows, eye makeup and false lashes advertising a chat website called IMVU.
I'm not sure I could have come up with a better way of making Scroob's point if I tried.
This guy called Stuart Fleming 'pot' told me about this song last night while we were getting off and I LOVE IT!!! lolololojhkllk
@SuperActionForceGo Thank you for your comment. As I indicated, English is not my first language. I loved Tommy Cooper as a Child and I understood him. awsome song
pure amazing

thats deep man, great track, top album
Instantly thought of this song when I heard about Leslie Nielsen dying today. The similarities are striking, but that's not important right now.
wonderful
yes Scroobious Pip was the poem by Lear, but Dan le Sac is the Dj for the poet who flows on these songs who goes by Scroobius Pip.
@Konichiwa616 and don't forget to pick up a copy of the new album "Logic of Chance" too. Also check out the "No Commercial Breaks" album on UA-cam or Grooveshark. You're right, Scroobious Pip is a poem. But Scroobius Pip is the poet (of this).
wowww this is incredible
big up scroobius and dan... big beats and big lyrics. hip hop aint dead, it's just underground hiding from all the mainstream US bullshit like lil wayne and fuckin all gay 'gangsta' shit. does anyone with a brain still like that stuff? we all loved Biggie Dre and Pac but it really did start getting old after then.
Epic.

Geniuses
amen
@oh9ah6 a legendary british comedian who died on stage during his act while the audience just laughed and clapped believing it to be part of his show
@LargeBlueCircle
"On 15 April 1984, Cooper collapsed from a heart attack in front of millions of television viewers, midway through his act on the London Weekend Television variety show Live From Her Majesty's, transmitted live from Her Majesty's Theatre - not, as is often reported, the London Palladium."

Scroobious talent!

Tommy Cooper is a Classic. This video of him deserves a better backgroumd sound!

@snewt amazing line...i was going to type that up myself till i noticed it was the 2nd top rated comment
How times have changed.
Now, the top 15 comments could be identical and people would still feel compelled to create a new identical one.
Tommy n Scroobius deep respect
@rawker617 Legends never die.
I'm in the same boat as you.
@andyt2k I love Tommy cooper also. English is was second language. But I understood everything he ever said and was charmed and entertained by Him. I started watching him many, many years ago. his name is Dan Le Sac scroobious pip is a poem.

@frbjoernLA I love Tommy, but he was a tight, heavy drinker who hit his wife, I'm pretty sure he used a few naughty words from time to time. Just because he didn't swear on TV doesn't mean someone singing about him can't. That was the point, he appealed to everyone regardless of background
l'chaim salam fez man
My mum was engaged to tommy cooper's son
well actually, there not. The way to compare the two is through the deepness both reach. @snewt i can, his names scroobious pip...
this is about the same tommy the who wrote about!
Um, no it's not.
Alex79uk yes it is
+fleetwoodsucks it's 100% not
+fleetwoodsucks He mentions Tommy Cooper a dozen times in the song you imp.
Yeah! "sickness will surely take the mind where minds can't usually go." It's about how he took people higher by dying on stage.
Was tommy an actual shriner or just liked the hat?
The oft told story is that, when Tommy first started out, he wore a pith helmet or a safari hat. One day, he misplaced it, and when he had to perform in an egyptian themed restaurant, he swiped a fez off of one of the waiters, and he stuck with it, as it emphasized his features.
@oh9ah6 As the song could've told you.
... tupac in rap maybe. but this is hiphop, and yes scroobius is rapping, but i dont think he writes raps. he writes poems
My name is Tom C :D
Jfc. This is fucking art and you have to find a way to make it about you.
Pure fucking filth.
fourthed
thirded
@Captaintwathazzard Maybe actually put effort into finding some then? Don't just go by what you hear on the radio.
“Itchy teeth”
Eh, no? Scroobius Pip s the POET and Dan Le Sac is the DJ.
