I have been told that Tommy Cooper would dry out his old teabags and kep a few in his wallet. If he was approached in the street he'd pull his wallet out, take a large denomination note out and show it to someone and then place the note in their top pocket and say "Go and have a drink on old Tommy in that pub down there, the landlords an old mate of mine!" So off they'd trot, go into the pub and say to the landlord "I've just met Tommy Cooper and he gave me some money for a drink" Then they would pull an old teabag out of their top pocket! Tommy had used sleight of hand to swap the note for an old tea bag. Comedy genius!
Notice how at 2:47 that the trick/joke actually does go wrong. The comedy legs were meant to go out however the prop fails. That panic back stage and Cooper's anger was genuine, yet even then he still managed to get a laugh from the audience.
