    You know a boat is fun to drive when you have just as much fun editing the video as you did driving the boat!
    This is the full test drive with drone footage video i've made for you guys. We drove her offshore in some pretty decent waves which don't really show their true size on camera and then inshore where i wind her up to full noise and see what she does.
    If you're looking for a boat that's easy on the eye and absolutely hauls then you need to keep the Saxdor 320GTO on your shortlist.
    I hope you enjoy as much as i did!
    Dan Jones
    PLEASE NOTE - We tested the MACH I t-top which has now been replaced with a better designed version that includes forward supports. I already knew about this so didn't dwell on it during the video because none of you will receive this t-top when you order anyway.

      Yes I was aware of the new t-top so didn’t dwell on it in the video. Saxdor sent me a list of all the improvements they had made when compared to the early hulls. All good boat builders do this so I was happy to see it. Also the optional opening sun roof will lower the CG if you order that version

    I like the boat but comparing it to the longer Axopar 37. Right at 10:27... what I didn't care for was the amount of flexing in the hardtop. They need some type of bracing from the front section to the hull deck or make the windshield taller and the top cap fit on top.

    • @BoatLife_DansBoatLife
      @BoatLife_DansBoatLife  2 роки тому +1

      Yes i deliberately left that in the video so everyone could see but Saxdor have already re-designed the t-top with cool looking supports so this is not an issue anymore. We had the same issue on the Axopar 37 Brabus edition sun top as it was designed more streamlined to look sexy but flexed a LOT through the waves.
      So you're exactly right and both brands have acknowledged and fixed this which is good to see.

    Another great video Dan. I found your channel recently and love it as I have started looking for a new day boat/harbour boat around the 30ft mark. It has been very informative and great to watch. Unfortunately I have now found out about the numerous amount of brands making cutting edge bow adventure style boats and all have had great reviews from you. If you have extra drone footage (and time) a suggested video may be for you to use these shots and provide your thoughts and comparison on this class of 30ft boat. ie. Saxdor v Nimbus v Axopar v Quarken. It would be great to hear your thoughts and preferences on these 30ft vessels now that you have driven them all as you are in a unique position. All look great, but which would be best to live with overall when you compare performance, handling, at anchor livability, perceived build quality and being able to entertain a group on the move and rest? (You did touch on the fact that the Axopar has been designed more for getting you to your destination, rather than dropping anchor along the way due to the way it is set up aboard)

    Love your videos, but I've now gone into a "cutting bow" youtube rabbit hole. How do they compare to Centre Consoles like the Cap Camarat in offshore (choppy) conditions. Is it a subtle or dramatic difference?

    • @BoatLife_DansBoatLife
      @BoatLife_DansBoatLife  3 місяці тому

      Yes its a dramatic difference in most cases. So a cutting bow will allow you to maintain a high cruising speed through chop and reduce the need to slow down for waves so it's generally better on overal fuel consumption. A flared bow however provides more accomodation below and more space on the bow so you need to ask yourself what is more important to you? Do you need the extra real estate for your style of boating or is it more important to have hull thats better through the chop. Great video, really helpful test to see how it copes in proper waters. Looks like it gives you the confidence to be real Helmsman. If you are experimenting on different footage, I would love to see a test to really pick up the sound of the those howling V8s which I know is difficult to achieve with the wind and spray noise.
    That boat would be an amazing Mediterranean choice and I would definitely buy one, even top spec seams like a real bargain.

      A few people from Europe have asked me to discuss this. It seems in Australia people do not care about fuel consumption on this style of boat but it's obviously different in Europe. I'll try to remember to talk about it next time i test a Saxdor

    • @richardjohnson8114
      @richardjohnson8114 2 роки тому

      There is a review out of the UK that rattles off the fuel consumption at specific speeds. I did the calculations and this boat is quite a bit more efficient than your typical 32 foot / 10m Center Console or Dual Console boat, with similar engines, while also running a lot faster.

    Awesome looking boat! Looks like it would be perfect for South FL day boating, and even overnighting in the Bahamas or Keys. How dry is it? At 0:57 it looks like there is some wet spray on the windshield.

    • @BoatLife_DansBoatLife
      @BoatLife_DansBoatLife  2 роки тому +1

      An amazing day boat for occasional overnights absolutely. Dry in most conditions except from straight into big waves of coming off one at speed. You can go diagonal to reduce this or slow down to give the cutting bow more time to absorb the impact. But overall a very dry boat in most conditions and dryer that almost all of the traditional open boats we see on the market.

    Can’t find one to test drive in states so was wondering how u thought this could handle rougher seas compared to traditional deep v? Or how it compares to Axopar etc, thx

    • @BoatLife_DansBoatLife
      @BoatLife_DansBoatLife  Рік тому +5

      The quick answer is this will be great in rough seas. To the untrained eye most drivers will not notice any difference between Axo and Saxdor however they are different weights and lengths so I do notice (I’ve got hundreds of hrs on Axopar 28’s and 37’s).
      This hull shape is amazing in wind and boat chop and allows you to maintain speed through moderate waves and just slice through them. It’s also very forgiving on fuel consumption. You can run these boats offshore down swell and across swell in fairly big waves (I’ve done 3-5m) and you just need to pay attention to the angle of attack over the wave and your speed.
      Down swell at speed if you just run into the back of the next wave you’ll get bloody wet as the cutting bow will just pierce into the next wave. The correct way is to vary your speed below 30kts and take it at an angle.
      Going up wind and waves in regular chop is amazing and sometimes wet depending on wind but when the waves build and the wave period shortens you’ll be slowing right down and having a wet ride.
      I think the beauty of this hull shape is that you are so fast and so capable that you can run fast to get ahead of weather changes a lot of the time and speed over to find a windward shore to run fast in the protection.
      For managing solo the 32ft size is great and it goes without saying that the longer the hull the better offshore so Axo 37 probably wins offshore by a tiny margin and the Saxdor wins for top speed and handling. Personal preference but I found the Saxdor to be a more exciting ride.
      Hope this help

  • @fatheroftwo4865
    @fatheroftwo4865 3 роки тому +1

    Hi Dan. Could you comment how is wind protection in the cockpit? I do regular 50km routes (Mediterranean warm weather) and was wondering if you're protected against the wind enough or should I be focusing on the 320 GTC for complete wind protection?

    • @BoatLife_DansBoatLife
      @BoatLife_DansBoatLife  3 роки тому +1

      Good question. I found at slow cruise (30kts approx) the helm is protected in the center seat. Fast cruise (40kts+) the wind vortex starts to become a bit noticeable and WOT (50kts+) you might get you hat blown off if you stand up.
      I think if you have the standard t-top this will encourage a wind vortex at the helm at top speed and the optional opening roof when open will not.
      Guests on the aft seats will not have wind protection but for the Med…. Wow what a cool boat to do long trips!

    • @fatheroftwo4865
      @fatheroftwo4865 3 роки тому

      @@BoatLife_DansBoatLife when you say that the optional opening roof will not encourage a wind vortex are you referring to the GTC or will the GTO have some kind of opening roof?
      I will seldomly do 40+ knots and most often it'll be 25-35knots so hopefully the helm seats and the row behind them is wind protected... I would prefer the GTO since the layout (for me) is a better compared to the GTC but then again practicality is most important. I really would like a possibility to sit down without the wind blowing in my head when we take it out for longer rides...

    • @BoatLife_DansBoatLife
      @BoatLife_DansBoatLife  3 роки тому +1

      @@fatheroftwo4865 I'm referring to the GTO. It's just an observation but large fixed roof's generally encourage the air to spin or form a vortex and you can notice your shirt blowing up at some speeds (maybe thats a good thing? :)... Yes at lower speeds on an open boat with fixed roof the windscreen would provide protection. An open roof seems like it would be less likely to encourane the vortex (i'm not a scientist when it comes to this it's just my observations).
      From what you have explained i think you'll be fine with a GTO driving at normal speeds 30-35kts.
