Gabe, I looked for a way to msg you but couldn’t find info anywhere. So here it goes…. As you line up your reviews for the early part of 2024 may I suggest that you get your hands on the new MacGregor irons. The MT-86 Pro and OS. They are forged and look fantastic. They are offering assembled clubs or club heads only for each of the models or a Combo set. MacGregor’s heritage is strong and I am truly curious about how the new sticks would perform in your hands.
Great review - $200 driver, $500 iron set, 150 putter, throw in your old wedge off you go or buy 3 new ones for the price of 1. An $850 set with an adjustable driver with Titleist performance and irons with Taylormade P790 numbers this is bound to be a solid consideration in the marketplace.
Kirkland's are decent quality at great value. However, one's golf game will derive more benefit by developing a sound swing than either Kirkland or Takomo or P790.
@@phillyphreeze2966the takomos are comparable to taylormade irons. The 101s are similar to the P790 and the 101T’s are similar to the P770s. I have the 101T’s and I’ve hit the P790’s.
I’m a 6 hcp and I just changed from 0311t irons to 101’s was gonna go with the 101t but I want as much forgiveness as possible I know my game I don’t need a butter knife to make me feel better about myself 😂
Gabe, thank you for taking the input from the channels community in consideration and doing this review for us. Outstanding!!! As far as the clubs rankings are concerned I agree with how you placed them/and the criteria each excels at. I’m a sucker for a great feeling iron but I’ll tell ya that based on this past year’s experience where I used so many different irons across the spectrum, going forward I’m more and more inclined to game the so called game improvement irons. My handicap dropped 7 strokes and currently at 0.3 index since I swallowed my pride and went that route. The protection you get for thin shorts from clubs like the 101 or Forged Tec X saves 2 or 3 strokes a round. There’s no denying the benefit. The only downside with clubs like the 101 is the excessive offset which tends to promote a draw more than I’d like. So I would go 101T for practice and trying to get better and 101 (if I could live with the offset) for playing when it counts. Thank you again. Looking forward to watch the All Kirkland video.
The 101Ts are pretty sweet. The feel on strike is among the best of the player distance irons. I really enjoyed hitting them. I did notice, at least for me, they are the best feeling of recent irons I have tried. The actually feel better than my P-790s to be honest. If I could hit them as far as the P790s I might have arm wrestled you for them. I still have a set of Hogan irons in my garage that I loved because of the feel and the 101Ts felt pretty darned close. I might have to give the 101s a look in the future if I still continue to lose clubhead speed. I always hated that term, 'game improvement' because sometimes we go to those clubs just because we can't get the distance out of standard clubs anymore. Age gets all of us I suppose.
I respectfully cannot agree. I love what Takomo is doing. However, I purchased 101T club heads and didn’t like their impact feel. I compared them side-by-side with my Srixon Z585 gamers during several range sessions. Same shafts. The 101T heads felt harsh. They are hollow bodied and welded together of harder cast pieces. Plus, there is no polymer goo in the Takomos. Overall harsh imo. I had to sell them, so someone got a good deal. I finally settled on Maltby TS3 irons which are forged, i.e., softer steel. The Costco irons claim to be made of forged pieces, and they have polymer goo inside. Promising, but I’ll stay with my Maltby’s.
I personally would opt for the Takomo 101, which I think would suit my game. Hats off to both Takomo and Kirkland for bringing the game into the majority of people's budgets. Not much between these irons, just personal preference. Great, fair and honest Gabe as always. Come on Costco, build a store in Thailand and give us expats a choice.
I would for the Takomo as well just because of the hideous Kirkland logo! Hopefully Costco will remedy this and reduce the size of their logo for next year?
The screw on the side is not a tungsten weight. It is just there to fill the mandatory hole for hollow body irons (to let the gaz escape when the face is welded to the body). The least expensive way is to fill the hole with a plastic cap (like on the Takomo 101). The nicest way is to put a metal screw (like the CostCo and Takomo 101T). Good to see you review less expensive but good alternatives to the main golf brands.
Great video. I have actually wondered the differences in the 101 verses the 101T and which would suite me better so this was actually quite helpful to see them side by side. I noticed right away you raving about the feel of the 101Ts right after the very first shot. I also appreciate the explanation of the weights of the shafts.
These are the comparisons I’ve been looking forward to seeing. I’m in the market for new irons, as my Taylor are r7s are almost 16 years old. I’ve been in contact with the folks at Takomo, it seems like their customer service is second to none. I also am in need of a new fitting as my swing has changed in the last 16 years since I got the r7s. I’m unsure if the Kirkland irons would be able to be adjusted by a professional after purchase. The Kirkland irons look like a great set. And, for the price, hard to beat from what I’ve seen. Gabe, this comparison only muddied the waters further for me. That’s okay, though. It may be a situation where I bite the bullet and buy the Kirklands to try out and utilize Costco’s awesome return policy if they don’t work out. Unfortunately, here in Minnesota, golf season is over until hopefully March, if not April.
Interesting comparison. I had the first iteration of the Takomo 101 irons and switched to a fitted set of PXG 0211 XCore2 irons. For me, it wasn't close. Yes, they're $300 more but the discount fitting, lie/loft, custom shafts, grip etc. was completely worth it. I would love to see a comparison with the PXG's because I honestly think they get no love on youtube.
I had the pxg 0211 and 0311xf and shouldn't have gotten rid of either lol. The set that impressed me the most in this group are the Cleveland uhx. Awesome clubs on clearance now for $379.
Thanks man. I love your channel and bought my 101’s and freakin love em. Also been subscribed for over a year and just saw the video of you and your dad. Was awesome and your old man is so humble. Thanks again
It seems I made the right choice. Currently waiting for my Takomo 101s custom. Couldn't justify spending over 1k on a set of irons when Takomo offers everything we like as golfers.
Great video! I have a set of the 101’s and have played the 101t’s and I love how easy the 101’s are. I call them my corona clubs.. have as many coronas as you want and they still work. When I want accuracy I go to the zx7ii’s or the i230’s
Imma say Takomo on the options and customizations they offer between 101, 201, 301, different models in each, and shaft options. Kirklands are fine I’m sure if you prefer to fit your swing to the club rather than the club to your swing and preferences.
I have the very first edition of Takomo 101s with Aerotech i80 regular flex shafts. They are fantastic for a high handicapper like me. I bought the heads only and had the shafts installed from an older set of Callaways
Great review and easy to understand. So do you still use 101 irons or changed to 101t in your bag? I am making a decision between 101 and 101t. And having a trouble about shaft selection as well.
The Kbs tour lite shafts that come with the clubs are great shafts, but you could always order your own shafts and grips and have them put together if you buy the heads only.
@@TheHerd173 Thank you for your reply. The KBS tour lite shaft is the one I am eyeing to. I tried several shaft and I felt that KBS tour lite gave me a face awareness, which I like. I probably go with the KBS tour lite. Thank you again for your suggestion.
Thank you so much for showing the irons and drivers of KS products. I have all Kirkland golf products and very happy with all of it. Hoping to get the irons and Driver on next sale of the product. Keep up the good work, you do a great job
For 1.5 degree of stronger loft you would think the Kirkland irons would've carried farther than just 2 yards... Looking forward to the full Kirkland play through! Keep up the great work Gabe. Merry Christmas
In the past 3 yrs I’ve had Ping G425s for two hrs then switched to Mizuno 223 Pros, now am waiting for my Paradyms, guess I like spending money. 😂😂 Seriously though yes the big boys are getting very expensive, I hope other these new line that are coming on board can somehow keep them in check as far as price goes. People will still buy what they want regardless of price IMO. I did watch a video of the new driver go against a Stealth 2, and with some tweaking to the Kirkland there wouldn’t be much difference between the two. Thx for this Gabe Merry Christmas.
I agree that Kirkland should have gone with 95g-- TT elevate have shafts with that weight. Takomo has more shaft options, and you can buy heads only too.
curious what your gapping is like with the Kirkland cause yardage doesn't really matter with irons it is all about consistency. if you have good gapping and consistent distances you are set
I think the Kirkland four and five irons are a little tough to hit. If you looked at the previous video, you will see the gapping isn’t as wide as I would like to see it at the top end of the bag.
@@LetsPlayThru might be a case for combo set cause that is one thing I have noticed about the numbers is the consistency of the kirklands. Also the higher launch and decent angle is normally good for irons. Heck in the p790 comparison you had 1 set of Kirkland irons data with 0 yards front to back dispersion and that is crazy good.
Interesting POV regarding aesthetics. Most people I know immediately remove shiny irons from consideration, and intentionally dull the finish with Scott Brite/sandpaper
Or they come from the same factory that makes all Taylormade clubs. In China. Recently had my fitting with the Stealh 2 Driver and also purchased a new GT putter. Made in China, just not Chinese prices. What’s the biggest difference? The “cheaper” clubs don’t pay millions in sponsorships nor advertising.
@@marcusgeorge1825 As much as the R&D doesn't necessarily improve performance, TM is putting money into the P790 design changes. It's clear that Takomo, Haywood, and many other brands are essentially taking pre-fab designs, slapping a logo on it, and calling it a day. It's why they are cheaper, but you do get what you pay for to an extent. I still think you get a better deal at Callaway Pre-Owned, Global Golf used, etc than the DTC brands.
@@pokeefe363 TM are putting a lot of money into sponsorships for the pros. This, unfortunately, is the number one reason why their clubs cost more. Having been to China over 40 times for business reasons, I’ve also visited the factories that make TM and other brand names and it’s the same factories which these cheaper clubs come from. Yes, they don’t provide the level of customisation as the more expensive clubs, however, for the majority that play golf, there games aren’t good enough to really be able to tell the difference. You can buy so many lessons for the price differential that will actually improve your game. I’d also say I’d never buy secondhand clubs, rather wait until a particular model is updated and take advantage of the heavily discounted brand new one.
Shafts are so important with spin rates and launch characteristics. I would try and get fitted and work out what shaft you need . If Takomo or Kirkland have a shaft which is in line with the fitting great 👍 if not get the fitted club. Cobra still do reasonably priced clubs with some customisation as do PXG with the 0211. You can go second hand if you know the shaft you want 3/4 year old clubs still are v close to this years models.
The KBS Max shaft is actually more like 102 grams in weight. Actually, the raw uncut weight is 111 grams. KBS makes it confusing by putting an 80 on the shaft 😆
Just offhand without doing any digging …Might be the tour version that’s a little heavier. There’s also a “lite” version which may account for the discrepancy you were quoted vs mine.
Great comparison. I'm on the fence with the 101 v 101T and I really liked the very close dispersion the 101 gave you in this vid. I think I'm going to order the 101 heads and build them on my own NS Modus 105 shafts.
did you end up buying the 101's? If you haven't yet I just want to to know that the 101's have more offset than the 101t's. The 101t's are going to give you a little more workability and they have a little smaller head. I bought the 101's and with the Kbs tour stiff shafts and the shafts are to heavy for me. I find myself swinging to shallow and thinning my shots more than I would like to. I would advise anyone who buys a set from takomo to only hit the 7 iron and keep the plastic on all of the other irons. Takomo does NOT accept returns if the plastic is off of the other clubs and any club other than the 7 iron is hit.
Also.... great comparison... I think Takomo needs to give you a referral code... as this review makes me really reconsider the 101Ts. If the kirkland irons take too long to land here is Australia I might order the 101T.
Just ordered me some Takomo 101 w/xstiff as I just got fitted and couldnt swallow the $1100.00 for the mizuno that my fitter recommended. We will see how they work, everyone has impressive things to say.
@@cpat7065 I really like them. Very forging. Im doing pretty well with them only thing is when you pure it they go about 15-20 yards longer. Long irons are really nice bc they get up in the air so easy
Hi Question for you i am looking for a more forgiving club that my stealth irons i hit them good but is am slowing down in swing speed will be 60 next March so i wanna get some irons that will age with me I have narrowed it down to 2 sets Takomo 101's and Eleven's hybrid irons i know its apples to oranges but which did you find easier to hit and more forgiving ? 3-pw in the Eleven's is 1225 ( Canadian ) 4-pw in the Takomo's 101 are 850 ( Canadian ) i got my handicap down to 6.5 but i wanna make golf as easy as possible what are your thoughts ? both are straight to consumer so i can not try them thx i look forward to your thoughts cheers from Canada
What about a 2017 set of second hand p790’s instead? Did you ever hit those and did you experience the “hot spot/fliers” that seemed to be talked about a lot in the earlier generation p790
Quite a few second-tier UA-cam golf influencers are playing Takoma. Giving Kirkland its due while being objective is admirable. Looking forward to your 2024 contributions!
I’m curious why Sub 70 isn’t included in this comparison? I play with golfers who play 10:00 and rave about the quality, feel and cost of Sub 70 irons.
Hi Brandon, when comparing clubs of different lofts, why not normalize for them? You could do some division and figure out the carry distance per degree of loft, then subtract the difference for the stronger lofted club so you are doing a fair comparison. I think you had a club with 2 degrees less loft, which of course went longer. Why not account for that so the comparison is fair? I have yet to see anyone actually do a fair accounting for loft difference when comparing these clubs, which makes the stronger lofted clubs seem better.
I have been contacting Takomo on 101T and the 201. I decided to go with the 201 with the tour light S shaft. Any chance you can put the 201 against a similar forged iron? Titleist 200, Taylor made P7MC Really ended up buying Takomo due to cost. DTC seems to be the new wave and hopefully the golf industry can figure out how to blend it into the major brands. Economy and cost seems to be driving factor in my decision at least for now
I think you should put the same shaft in all the 6i for your numbers something like DG mid 115s would be nice and Kirkland's for better players well going to be like buying just the heads and at $500 not a bad deal
STIX irons I love as you probably know. But I think they are more aimed at the higher handicaps, beginners and the casual golfers. These trend more towards the middle and better player categories. Both have their place.
@LetsPlayThru ya as an 11 hcp. I'm hoping I made the right decision getting the stix. I was definitely giving the 101ts a serious look. But the back Friday stix sale was almost unrefusable lol
This confirms that I am Team Takomo. I’m split between 101 and 101T. I’m not a particularly long hitter - probably average. I like the idea of forgiveness on the mishits, though.
Great video. In all honesty... The shaft is what made the difference here for all these results. I don't think any of those shafts are really good for your swing. With your speed and release, I would put you in a modus 120 S or X.
Gabriel, what about the Sub70 699 Pro irons in comparison to both of those irons? I don't think the made in the USA Sub70 clubs get enough recognition.
I think after watching this, you should have never took the 101’s out of the bag! I understand though. I myself go back and forth from 101’s to Radspeed one length irons.
Thanks for your videos, How would you compare the 101 to the Callaway Mavrik? The Mavrik's have come down in price to about the range of the Takomo's. Does the 101 have them beat? Thanks
Maverick is a hideous iron…..by far, the worst iron ever made by Callaway. A! Smoke is good….all of them……..Apex are good. Even Wilson and Cobra are way above Maverick. They are truly awful clubs
Anything is better than Mavrik…..tour edge, cobra, wilson, mizuno….tommy armour at Dick’s sporting goods on sale for $299 are waaaaaay better than Callaway Mavrik…..old X 22s are better. Mavrik are so big and clunky. Awful, awful irons. I tried them once at a driving range, no club ever was worse
Can anyone who plays the 101 or 101t compare them to a big name club? I'm on the fence about grabbing a set to replace my jpx ez's, just sucks not being able to go try them somewhere.
Hey m8 I’ve ordered a set of 101 heads and putting them in my existing shafts to save cash x100 130g with a sleeve of course are they too heavy for a bogie golfer
Hey Paul, it just depends how hard you swing it. My recommendation would be to just build one club first like the 7 iron and see how you like it before finishing the set. Good luck!
Quick Editorial Note: the graphic displayed on the 101 iron said 32º but that should be 30º as I stated. It's the strongest lofted of the 3 clubs.
What’s the best budget hybrid irons?

I’d like to see the Costco clubs up against the killer Sub70 699 Pros. The 101 doesn’t even come close to the 699 pro.
I’d love to see how the sub70’s stack up, thinking about purchasing some irons from them
Just looking at the numbers and the dispersion patterns the 101's came out on top
Was hoping you would do this comparison. Looking forward to it. Another awesome video.
Happy to oblige, Wayne! Merry Christmas 🎄
curious what your gapping is like with the Kirkland cause yardage doesn't really matter with irons it is all about consistency. if you have good gapping and consistent distances you are set
They're essentially the same thing. They both likely came from the same DTC factory in China with a pre-made design.
What’s a DTC?

Ah ok, that makes a lot more sense. I was surprised to see 80 on there.
Something to verify. The KBS MAX Stiff shaft is 102G. At least thats what I'm told by Takomo when I placed my order last summer.
Just offhand without doing any digging …Might be the tour version that’s a little heavier. There’s also a “lite” version which may account for the discrepancy you were quoted vs mine.
Well, update on that. Another comment came in that says that shaft is heavier than 80g and more like what you were quoted.
I'd go with the Tokomo given the choice.
Have you reviewed the Tacoma 201 irons yet question mark thank you love all your videos
The swing is looking good Gabe.
I’ve got 5 iron down pretty well dialed in. Struggling with my 4 iron and 3 wood ATM, but working on it.
Great videos! Thanks for doing the comparisons. I am thinking of getting the 101t's.
Also.... great comparison...
What are your thoughts on them so far? I am passively looking to upgrade my irons early next year.
Swing is consistently good .. Shaft is variable and is the reason for dispersion among models
Maybe play 2 balls... 1 with the kirkland set and one with your ideal bag. 👌
Would love to see these against Wilson d9/ dynapower,
Some of the value options from higher brands :)
Thanks for all your hard work no content this year Gabe. Have a happy Christmas.
For the all Kirkland video, make sure to also play the ball and the gloves.
I’m curious why Sub 70 isn’t included in this comparison? I play with golfers who play 10:00 and rave about the quality, feel and cost of Sub 70 irons.
Between all of those the KS seemed the most consistent. Probably what I would buy if i was looking at these 3 sets.
It flaired a bit to the right, but overall it seeme the most playable for my game.
Titleist 200, Taylor made P7MC
Really ended up buying Takomo due to cost. DTC seems to be the new wave and hopefully the golf industry can figure out how to blend it into the major brands. Economy and cost seems to be driving factor in my decision at least for now
The kirkland irons aren't even on the site anymore...they took them down sadly
When can you take the full Kirkland set out on course? Great comparison review Gabe!
I think I can do it this weekend. May have to cancel Christmas for it though. 🎄🤣
I think you should put the same shaft in all the 6i for your numbers something like DG mid 115s would be nice and Kirkland's for better players well going to be like buying just the heads and at $500 not a bad deal
How would yoo compare these overall to the stix irons?
Please get a set of exotics pro 723 . A beautiful looking club that isn’t at retail.
Great video. In all honesty... The shaft is what made the difference here for all these results. I don't think any of those shafts are really good for your swing. With your speed and release, I would put you in a modus 120 S or X.
I see still think those set of cheap Head irons you hit was one of the most consistent I’ve seen you hit. Maybe you can test both at the store.
Those were surprisingly solid !
Thanks Gabe! The man of the people :).
Gabriel, what about the Sub70 699 Pro irons in comparison to both of those irons? I don't think the made in the USA Sub70 clubs get enough recognition.
I’ve put them up head to head with Takomo in the past, found it comparable in most respects.
I think after watching this, you should have never took the 101’s out of the bag! I understand though. I myself go back and forth from 101’s to Radspeed one length irons.
I’ll still say the Pursuit m410 from Giga golf 374.40 5 thru PW and availability to customize. And if I remember you gave them a good review…..
Yeah that’s a heck of a deal
Price and look are pretty similar. Would come down to feel.
Should you be using a regular shaft ?
Thanks for the video! Can anybody confirm how many grams the KBS Tour Lite Stiff shafts weigh for the 101T’s? The website doesn’t give a weight
Your opinion on the iron shafts?
Within 12 months there will be a full Kirkland set for around 850! That’s my bet!
I love my Wilson D9's
Yup, those are solid
They're a little bigger?
ya, they are chunky game improvement irons@@paulmcgee1867
Gabe: On the Takomo web site they only offer the KBS typle of shafts..Were did you find the Nippon shafts?
I made those custom in the video where I just got the heads.
Nice review. Enjoyed it.
Can anyone who plays the 101 or 101t compare them to a big name club? I'm on the fence about grabbing a set to replace my jpx ez's, just sucks not being able to go try them somewhere.
I enjoy your videos but Wilson D9 forged irons are coming in a little bit cheaper with one more club
That’s a solid choice for sure
Have you ever tested Maltby clubs? They seem like a similar value to Takomo and Costco
I have some now. That video will be up in two videos. 😀
@@LetsPlayThruthat is great news!
Have you reviewed any sub 70 irons ?
Takomo vs Wilson please for high handy cap
I keep looking at the Wilson d9 forged irons. Just want a good feeling club that still has some forgiveness
That is a really good choice as well
Hey m8 I’ve ordered a set of 101 heads and putting them in my existing shafts to save cash x100 130g with a sleeve of course are they too heavy for a bogie golfer
Hey Paul, it just depends how hard you swing it. My recommendation would be to just build one club first like the 7 iron and see how you like it before finishing the set. Good luck!
Nice work. Enjoyed it.
.
I’m sitting at a 16 handicap. Would the 101t benefit me or the 101?
I’d lean 101
Nice review Gabe
Have the 101s love them 8 handicap
should compare the t200
Happy with my 101Ts. Had these Kirkland irons been out when I was shopping, I'd probably would have gotten them just because I'm an impatient bastard.
Haha,😂. I think you did well.
No idea what to conclude when the shafts are wildly different
Exactly. The NS pro is really a better shaft than the other two in my and others opinions
You definitely need to be in a 120g shaft you just don't time the lighter weight shafts well at all
I don’t get how 7 irons roll 13 yards on simulator like 3 wood That means it's horrible to stop anywhere on the green.
Meh, if I want to hit a longer shot, I just change clubs. Distance is not the only a deciding factor in choosing clubs.
Have the loft double checked on the Kirkland...
Love all this!
When are you getting the SMT 579???
I have them 😃
That’s awesome. Can’t wait for your video on them. Happy🎉 Holidays🎉
