Great video. You’ve been playing the 301 combo set for a while now and you know those clubs very well. Try playing the 101T for a couple rounds and see how you do. Great content Tim.
I have the combo set arriving this morning via UPS! I've made my decision, can't wait to take this to the range and run it against the track man to get my distances.
trying to shape alot of shots would only get me in more trouble than usual. Therefore the more forgiving clubs 101T? would be for me. My 718 AP1 set (still very new looking) helps me at my skill level. Great video. you sort of convinced me that game improvement irons are truly good for the mid/high index.
Had the 101Ts for almost 12 months now and still loving them. Agree that they are a little harder to fade/draw but the forgiveness more than makes up for it and they don't ping off the face too much on the short shots which was an original worry.
I went from blades I played all through college (D2) to the 101T. I wanted some forgiveness, distance, and being able to still work the ball. The clubs have been a perfect fit and I do not play nearly as much as I did in school. I am back shooting rounds again that I did in college.
What kind of challenge are you looking for with the 201s? We’ve done a couple more 201 videos recently on the channel but are always looking for more ideas.
I'm an 8 hc and play the 101Ts. I previously played the Haywood combo set, similar I guess to the Takomo 301s. The added forgiveness in the 101Ts, with the small profile is a great choice for anyone looking to get from the teens to single figure. My one gripe with takomo is the lack of leftie love. Such a shame that any new releases don't come with LH options right away.
Absolutely love my 201's with the Obsidian 95s stiff shaft. Took a couple months to get used to the weight with the much lighter shafts than my Rogues with Proj X 6.0's. I definitely feel like 175 and in, its rare for me to be outside 15ft.
The 301s look marginally nicer, but they're both spectacular looking sets. For my game I think I'd be further ahead with the 101T. Great video as always Tim, keep it up!
I am trying to decide between 101T, 201, and 301. I grew up playing Wilson staff tour blades in 1978, then Ben Hogans in the early 1990s......then Callaway X 22s from 2009-2024. I bought Tommy Armours at Dick's for $299 because I wanted lighter shafts, and I like the lesser offset on the short irons, but, even though they exceeded my expectations, I am in love with the Callaway Apex ti fusion or considering PXG and Takomo, with reservations about the choice of shafts and weights. I am a decent player.....mostly high 70s......but sometimes low 70s. I've shot 70 twice since 2020, but I don't play much. I hit the ball solid. I can hit most irons.....except Callaway Mavrik!.........and I liked the short hosel Callaway z 22s, but if I don't have to pay $2, 000 for a club I love, I'd like that
It looks like your alignment is always right in all of your shots. Also for into the grain chip shots, I watched a video of Scottie and Tiger and what they do is stand closer to the ball and hold the club more upright which will bring the heel of the club off the ground. So the only the toe will hit the ground and the club won’t grab.
i play T100s right now which feel great but when I hit the toe it’s 20 yards short… i just ordered a set of 101ts like ten minutes ago... letsss goooo thanks Tim
Hi Takomo. Watched the Olympic opening ceremonies last night and when Finland floated past I told everyone in the room about your clubs and company. Anyhoo…how about the 101T irons for the red headed step children of the golf world…we lefties. I mean there are bigger issues to get behind in the world but if you start producing 101T for lefties I would be a happier man and I promise to be nicer to everyone I meet. Even people who aren’t very nice. I’m petting my cat as I type this and I’m doing it with more compassion as caring than ever. See, the power of left handed irons compels me to be a better man. Thanks. Just had a thought, how about Teemu Selanne as an ambassador? Thanks mucho. Lefty guy out.
When you are swinging well, there may not be a big difference, but which set gives you the most help when the golf gods have it in for you! would be the set I would put in the bag!
I’m a very low single digit and have played the 201s for 2 years. My golfing buddy has the 101Ts so I’ve hit them a bunch. The 201s DEFINITELY feel better but the forgiveness of the 101Ts is just better. I’m waiting for v2 of the 101Ts and will buy them. But I’d say whatever you have more fun hitting use those regardless!!
Also I would go with 101T's but with the same focus and concentration you had with the 301's. You focused up thinking you had less forgiveness with 301's.
Tim, you need to come out and play with some of us older golfers to test Tacomo irons across all your offerings. I know you work with other content creators but showing the older crowd and how the irons compare may well help sell more clubs. I play Cobra F9 Speedback irons 4-SW. What Tacomo iron would be the closest match to that and where could I try them? By the way, I am in the Dallas area.
My first impression is that your 301 combo set works great. The Skyforger wedges seem to perform great. You lose the most shots on your putting. Also with the 101Ts you lose out on workability in the top-end of your bag. You could consider 101T for 4-5 irons. Then the 301CBs for the 6-7 irons. And then the 301MBs for the 8-9-PW irons. Or replace the 4-7 irons with the 201s.
I wanted strong lofts and looks, I don't want my 7i to go miles, something like 160yards of carry is more than enough. Quite new to the game atm +20hcp and 301cb/mb set is just perfect for me. 4 iron stays in the garage, 5 doesn't come out of the bag outside of the range but the rest is just super solid, good looks and I really want some punishment from the bad shots! Note those definitely ain't butter knives once you get used to them after using some player distance trampolines! I wanted something like 201's in terms of forgiveness but man the 301CB/MB's are just so much more gorgeous. 4h goes 200yards and 6i 170yards so there is a gap in the game so I have my players distance set 5iron with me(also for the rocky lies and also if my 6iron scares me) until I learn to hit my 301CB 5i reliably and with more distance than my 6/7iron. Looks first!
Will do this again with the 201s! This one I was just comparing the 301s to a more forgiving set like the 101Ts where the 201s aren’t quite as forgiving as the 101Ts but I will do one of these with the 201s as well! Love that set! - Tim

1.4 hcp here....I just switched from callaway rogue st pros to 301 mb cb combo set in June. I have learned that I play / strike better with 301s because I've put more thought into improving mechanics and impact and making smarter shot selections. overall accuracy has improved and even though misses are shorter, the majority are safer. All in all, I'm learning to rely on myself rather than blame it on bladier clubs. i also love working the ball. With the hollow rogue st pros, I would rely more on the clubs and not myself, lose focus or get really get beat too long. also I found that pairing the wedges with 301s provides more consistent feel across the bag and improves accuracy across my entire game. Especially between yardage feel chips. As a player, I would stick with the 301s all day. FYI Jason day switched to hollow body irons to keep up with the rigorous day in and day out grind and distance requirements... and the elephant in the room, father time causing slower swing speed or endurance issues. But that's how he makes his living. So he has to keep up to do so. Just my 2 cents. I think takomo needs to start making putters next!
You should warm up and play a round with the 101ts. It looks like the different weight or whatever of the 101t threw your swing off maybe since you're so used to the 301. I'd say you'd be better off sticking 301, but your long irons had better ball flight with the 101ts.
I think the 101s are the move. I think you gotta base your clubs of your less than ideal shots that’ll happen every round. It’s about tightening up the dispersion

Only issue is the gapping between the sets. 101Ts are stronger lofted so there would be a pretty big gap between the 7 and 8 iron. Would need to bend all the 301s a couple degrees stronger to match up. But not a bad idea! - Tim

It’s tricky to do combo sets with the other irons because they aren’t all the same lofts or offset so it would create gaps in the bag and might not blend as seamlessly. The 301 sets have identical lofts which makes it easier to blend.

Keep it up man and remember to genuinely Applied your phenomenal shots and I haven’t seen you hit a terrible shot so enough of that
Where can I get Takomo Appeal?
Could we please get some combo sets throughout all the irons instead of just the 301s?
It’s tricky to do combo sets with the other irons because they aren’t all the same lofts or offset so it would create gaps in the bag and might not blend as seamlessly. The 301 sets have identical lofts which makes it easier to blend.
@@takomogolfcompany torn between the 301cb or the 201s. How much of a difference are those two clubs compared to one another, I see the specs but in terms of feel and hitting. I love the way the 301cbs look compared to the 201s. Planning on ordering a custom set with the kbs c-tapers , just want to be sure which iron would be best before I pull the trigger
