I only saw it after it exported to MP4 and struggled over whether or not to go back to redo it, but then I thought it might be more fun to leave it in and see who notices lol
I have them both and they're both well painted. I agree Jon doesn't look like his pretty boy self. McFarlane needs to pay more attention and care to what he's doing. He's not doing much better than any in the past and it's disappointing.
I wasn’t expecting Jon to actually win lol. Though, again it does make some sense. But what hurts my soul is when Jon’s body was reused for nightwing who doesn’t even have his escrima sticks. Nonetheless, love your videos Jason!
@5POAFigureReviews don’t mention it Jason! Yeah it’s definitely a crime that nightwing does not come with his escrima sticks because it’s his primary weapons.
My friend was going to consider on getting me the Jonathan Kent Superboy from McFarlane but then I found him at Gamestop for $17.89 and instead of Jonathan Kent, He told me that he will get me the Flash Age Jay Garrick Flash figure, Awesome review on these 2 pretty fun cool unique Superboy action figures Jason.
@@5POAFigureReviews same!! I wasn’t even aware of the concept of a comic book when the amalgam stuff was happening. I didn’t start buying comics until 5 years after that era. And I didn’t learn about the amalgam stuff until like 2006
Always a great day when 5POA uploads, as someone not building a superfam these don't really do anything for me, but as a supergirl fan I am happy to report we have leaks for a classic Kara in the pipeline!
the box of the kon el figure isn't choppy on the lines because of a resolution issue, its digital art drawn with a pen brush meant to immulate the texture of a realistic brush. i have used brushes like it in the past. easy mistake to make, but great video nonetheless. always enjoy them. just a minor thing as a digital artist i had to mention 🖤
This is very interesting and indicative of the little quirks still plaguing McFarlane DC figures: The angry Jon face, the off Kon-El stubble (I would argue his chin shape too). I actually think the Superboy Prime face sculpt is the best Superman likeness yet. Incidentally, my Kon-El's right knee is frozen shut at one of the pin joints.
great review, I'm reading Death of Superman, World without Superman again and Reign of the Superman and I think I'm interested in Superboy now, will start a Death of Superman collection
Also, I pre ordered the Astonishing Emma Frost figure last week in the store and it hasn't come yet but I was wondering will it come this week because I didn't order online, Please let me know.
I think I should grab a used DCUC Superboy. It’s the best looking Superboy figure so far. I don’t think I can wait that long for Mafex’s upcoming Superboy.
It's not too hard, if you put your thumb under the jaw and push upward the head should pop off somewhat easily, or if you want to make life easy you could heat them up with other hair dryer or dunking them in hot water. I don't have either of the Michael Keaton head version of Batman or the Marvel Legends vulture, so I can't tell you exactly, but in my experience the Marvel Legends pegs are much too large for the holes in the Multiverse heads. Also, because both figures are scaled differently, there is a better than even chance that the Keating head will be too big. Hope that helps, and I'm sorry I can't give you more conclusive info
@@5POAFigureReviews much appreciated, thank you, I was unsure if it could be worth buying the bat figure for the head or just try to find a proper vulture unmasked head
Absolute bummer that both have basically one thing that holds them back imo - Jon's headsculpt, Kon's lack of hands. Still good enough to snatch up down the road though, especially as a general Big Blue fan. Speaking of hands, might I ask what fists you used for that Action Comics 1000 Supes? Been trying to find someone to steal the fists from for him for a while, hah.
So the joke I made about him looking like Brendan Fraser in the Mummy was going to be a Titanic joke, but then the submersible thing happened so I decided it would just be best to stay away from that LOL
I used the Jon Kent head for superboy prime. His look fits better and the messier hair. 🤷🏻♂️ sub par for Jon overall sadly. I’d have been more invested in a younger superboy it’s more iconic
Yeah I really liked the Jon had on Prime. But if you've seen my Superboy Prime video, you know he is very fussy it would not like me swapping his head LOL
@@5POAFigureReviews it is messy! Personal experience. A lot of the dc figures just doing a head swap is next to impossible at times. I will say the endless winter aquaman head on the target flashpoint body is a legit winner thou.
I believe this could be Todd's must reused body mold in the DC multiverse line to date. Possibly making it the equivalent to the Bucky Cap mold as in it's tride, true, and reused so much that it really doesn't work for certain characters depending on how you view it.
I think Bucky cap is a great example. In general, it's got to be a tie between this and the infected Superman body, I think maybe with infected Superman inching it out. But they only use the infected body for Superman variations, where is this body has been used for multiple characters.
My issue with Conner is his Head. If he had the Sunglasses and Curl, or just the Curl, I would be happy with it. I love the Character so I have been tempted to get him, but its just not what I want. For some reason McFarlane just seems to have issues when it comes to making great Figs in the Super Family. Always something off with them. I got the Devastator Superman Two Pack and I find that one to be one of the Best Superman Figs, but even then the Head is just a bit to angry for me.
The Superman figure from Action Comics 1000 is honestly still my favorite. It's the same as the devastator to pack version but with a more natural head. That said, I wouldn't mind getting the devastator version just to have the option for fighting shots
I've been thinking of getting the Reign of Superman, Supermen figures. That Superboy is not very accurate to the 1990s design. He looked 15 to 16 in the comics. I may end up getting it since there are no other options.
He is not based on Reign of Superman but a later run. That said, I expect when they give us the Reign version they will just tweak this, so he'll likely still not look quite young enough
4:03 that fly liked Superboy's Jacket and pants 😂

McFarlane does a great job overall, but sometimes making something look "cool" takes a backseat to making it look accurate

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR NAME DROPPING AMALGAM SPIDER BOY! I need that in my collection so bad! One day! Hopefully
Oh I have a lot of nostalgia for Amalgam. I don't have all of the comics, but I have most of them
@@5POAFigureReviews same!! I wasn’t even aware of the concept of a comic book when the amalgam stuff was happening. I didn’t start buying comics until 5 years after that era. And I didn’t learn about the amalgam stuff until like 2006
That's not based on Conner Kent 90s design that's the 2021 design based off the 90s in young Justice
Ah gotcha. I knew it was from something after Reign but wasn't sure what. Thanks for the info!

I didn't talk about it in the video, but I'm glad you brought the chin up. Yeah, something about the chin really bugs me too.
Thank you..... Superboy for me
You're welcome Pete!

Yeah, it will be over a year at least before that comes out. And I agree, DCUC Superboy is the best we have gotten so far
How difficult is it to swap the heads? Also, I was wondering if the unmasked Keatonbats head would be able to fit on the Marvel Legends MCU Vulture?

I got the Kon El yesterday and put the Superboy Prime head on him and and MAN it looks a lot better. Sculpting some shades at some point
It is def an improvement
Please not to forget to review the dc multiverse mcfarlane toys knightfall batman and the Sinestro corps soon bro. 😊
Knightfall is my next video :-)
I took the head from Superboy-prime and swapped them and added a Cloth cape to Jon and it looks so much better
I am thinking of getting a cloth capes for mine
I’ve just got superboy since dont really read comics so only know from the movies. I like his design more since it’s not a traditional Superman.
Agreed
Kon el looks like Decaprio from different multiverse

Jon el
I take John Kent bc the son of Superman. John Kent wins no low diff
You should do an goku sh figuarts review
I have been wanting to give figuarts a chance
@@5POAFigureReviews you should get the son goku raised on earth shf it's has a very good impression 👍

That Superboy is not very accurate to the 1990s design. He looked 15 to 16 in the comics.

I have kon el
As of 2 figures of characters I don't really care for, I say the 90s guy looks better
Agreed
Another youtube toy reviewer used a WWE Shawn Michaels shades and it looks good
Oh cool. I'll have to look into that
Agenda aged Jon is am ugly figure so 90's Superboy wins by default.
