FILM DESCRIPTION:
In the year 2019, America is a totalitarian state where the favorite television program is "The Running Man" -- a game show in which prisoners must run to freedom to avoid a brutal death. Having been made a scapegoat by the government, an imprisoned Ben Richards (Arnold Schwarzenegger) has the opportunity to make it back to the outside again by being a contestant on the deadly show, although the twisted host, Damon Killian (Richard Dawson), has no intention of letting him escape.

Jim was legit scary in this movie. You assume he's gonna be chill as he's watching the show and having a drink, he's cheering people on, he expresses sorrow when the other stalkers die.
But then he puts on the suit, and he's an absolute sociopath.
What a hot head!
It wasn't actual sorrow. It was the mask he used among his people to appear like he cared.

So many times I see people getting the two the wrong way round.
Considering that he uses arguably the most brutal and inhumane weapon ever devised by humans, he's obviously not exactly a nice person.

Jim Brown's characters don't fare well in movies: this one, The Dirty Dozen, Ice Station Zebra. He should stayed in the NFL :-)
He was also the only non braindead commentator for the ufc besides bill Wallace for the first couple events.

With it being a Schwarzenegger movie, they had to get in an explosion or two; Fireball second, the earlier one was when Ben Richards was slapshot and knocked out briefly by Subzero’s explosive ice hockey puck, during the attempt to rescue Weiss.

I have heard the book was more violent than movie version. Is that true?
@@ubiased23 It was violent in different ways. In the book the Runners aren't put in to an arena. The are allowed to go where ever they can to elude their hunters. If they survive for 30 days they win the grand prize. It's a decent book and a quick read.
Both the movie and the book are epic, but you have to accept that they're very different experiences.
It's too bad that in this post-9/11 era, they'd never make a faithful adaptation of the movie... it would make a decent streaming series.

Well Fireball wasn't so tough. Sad he had to be sacked. He fumbled the ball here. They put up a good defense and changed possesion on downs.
Between Dynamo and Fireball, I suspect that the ones they REALLY wanted to kill were the hunters. Death trap "costumes".
But they looked good on camera, and they were flashy.
Practicality is less important than getting viewers' interest.

The part in this that is spooky is where Amber is saying "Richards" and Fireball is listening then Amber finds the previous winners of The Running Man they were dead the whole time and Fireball was just standing there that would scare the living daylights out of me

So... he WILL kill a helpless human being. With his gaseline cut, Fireball was just as helpless as Dynamo.
Dynamo was trapped in his car and couldn’t move. Fireball could’ve gotten up and fought them hand to hand or fixed his gasline. He was still a threat.

Well despite Amber’s earlier betrayal of Ben, in the end we were rooting for them and it’s good they survived.

The one liners in this movie would be chefs kiss tier but that "Sub Zero! Now plain zero!" line will take it down several notches. They couldn't work out a better ice/cold or even hockey based pun?? The one thing about this movie I openly detetst.

Fireball is on his way!!! Didn't know that Jim Brown had just died (18 May 2023). He was in a few of my favourite films from the late 1960s and of course Mars Attacks!!
It feels like they spent almost $800 making this movie, and stayed up until 1 am. the night before filming to write the script.
This movie is a classic. Its a masterpiece of 80's action. you're just a philistine and a disappointment to your parents. Your only saving grace is to love this movie. Love it now.
The book is a LOT different. (And better) This movie just takes the barebones of it.

And why are they all in this room? They all died there at the same time? Or they dragged the bodies there? Or they let them "win", and then carted them off to the slaughter in this room? I get that it's narrative convenience for her to find all of the bodies and learn the truth, but this doesn't make a lot of sense.

@@Commanderziff I think Whitman, Price and Haddad genuinely won the Running Man. If they had been killed by the stalkers, it would have been televised and the audience would have lapped it up. I reckon they won only to be executed as soon as they returned to the locker room.
