Denzel Washington is a living legend! Even if one of his movies is bad, he still makes it worth watching because he's always excellent. Any of his movies that are not excellent it wasn't his fault. But I love pretty much all of his movies. He is hollywood gold.

Very more than a movie actor. When asked 'How do we stop racism?' His answer: "Stop talking about it".

Denzel, you are a true model of decency. Intelligent, articulate, and obviously a great father. I thank God for your presence in the life of your children and for the great entertainment you've shared of yourself to the world. Thank you.

Statistically he's right on the money also. Politicians avoid talking about it because it doesn't help them get elected and that's all they care about, but the one clear correlation you can find with people who get mixed up with "the system" is that most of them come from fatherless homes. Nothing against single mothers, I grew up with a single mother, and most of them do their very best, but young boys generally seek out male role models even if they have an amazing mother at home. And so many times unfortunately they find it in gang leaders and other terrible role models that lead them down the wrong path.

It's good to know that even though Denzel's parents were divorced, his father was still a part of his life. Boys need their dads.

This has been a theme with Denzel for years if not decades. Every time this subject is broached he makes this point. Personally I couldn't agree more. If you've got more to lose in the streets than at home. You got a little Yummy on your hands

Good man, proud father. Makes me genuinely happy for his success knowing he's maintained his measured thought, focus on family and integrity, and kindness and compassion without being weak and making excuses for people. A true role model for the youth, and example to real men everywhere.
    Respect.

1:24 Denzel: Do you blame the system? ... It starts in the house; it starts in the home.
    • And yeah, "Well, my father got locked up."
Well, where was _his_ father? ...
1:56 We can blame the system if we want, but they didn't lock any of us up at seven. We were all doing enough to get locked up at 13. My parents sent me in another direction.

The system isn't locking up black men for nothing. Many are locked up for committing crime.

    • @terradrive
      @terradrive 8 місяців тому

it's true some black men are innocently got locked up. But the street gang or crime culture makes it worse. Imagine changing the culture and have more guidance to the kids so they grew up without committing much crimes, less will be locked up and in turn those innocents who got locked up will pop out like a sore thumb more so people can help them. But no, just allow the culture and bury the innocent blacks in the tons of blacks that got locked up with valid causes.

    • @chasedwards9626

"for nothing" No that is overwhelmingly false. That's the very mentality and messaging that are really just compounding existing problems. The justice system isn't perfect, nothing is.
But when you remove accountability and dole out race cards, just who do you think you're helping?
If you want to focus on extreme outlier examples of miscarriages of justice or bad policing, you're missing the entire very valid point Denzel was making here
Please don't propagate this kind of victim narrative. ❤

When I worked at Costco during the pandemic, the janitor there was a tall old white man who was a former drug addict. . .he told me out of his own mouth he would have sobered up way quicker than he did if the police actually arrested him when he should have been arrested. He said he was "let go" and not arrested by police officers so many times he lost count.

I think secretly he enjoys trolling the question. His answer is pretty much the same response he always give to people who ask. He knows it is a rock solid answer beyond reproach. But does not give the expected answer while remaining unassailable over the answer.

True.. I know plenty of people raised with single moms who turned out great.. Its all about who you hang out with. I can look at your 5 best friends and predict how your future will turn out.. Good parents know this and know how to incentivize their kids not to hang out with certain people.. But that comes at a cost when you’re young, bc those people are often times seen as “cool”..

I disagree with all of you in terms of what I think Denzel was really meaning...
It requires two parents to raise a child. I don't care if it's a mother and father, two mothers, two fathers, etc. It requires two parents to balance out the responsibilities adults have with a job, with paying the bills, with doing errands alongside with raising a child.
Are there many examples out there of single parents raising children on their own who are excellent people? Absolutely, but the odds are better when two parents are involved.
In Denzel's example, because he's speaking about black children, 57.6% of black children are living absent their biological fathers. That was in 2012. So more than half of all black children don't have a father in their life.
Two parents are needed. The odds go significantly down when both figures are involved in a child's life in relations to crime, drug use, mental health, etc.

@@MasterManto I dont dispute what you’re saying but I still think there are better predictors. If I take 100 people with 2 parents but I make them hang out with people who do drugs and crime, and I take 100 people with a single parent and make them hang out with a bunch of kids who are motivated to develop skills and become successful, I’d bet you anything there would be drastically better results in the second group.
