During this period, Peregrinus was imprisoned for his being revered "as a god" and "as a lawgiver" and was cared for by Christians from throughout the province of Asia who regarded him according to Lucian as “the new Socrates”. Hoping to avoid making a martyr out of Peregrinus, according to Lucian, the governor of Syria released Peregrinus.'
Ah, that explains it! Very neat story, I should add Peregrinus to the tags (if those do anything)!

As @mojobigsticks said, Chris' version of Henricus is based on 'The Passing of Peregrinus' by Lucian of Samosata, so it's probably worth making a film about that rather than Chris' false version- perhaps something like an inverse Life of Brian?
