    You could play the Roland without bellows. They is a setting for that. You could also get a stand for the accordion...you stand while playing without straps!

    And missing the message! I can relate to my tech mishaps and lost recordings. 😢
    I definitely want to see the record collection. 🪗 😉 maybe we can get you to program an episode on Accordion Noir Radio?

    I really wish you all the very best. I started playing the accordion 4.5 years ago. I just launched myself into it as a pianist. It wasn't very long (6 months) that pain in my left shoulder and upper arm got worse and worse, to the extent that I said to my wife, I going to have stop playing. IT was basically quite severe repetitive strain injury. I asked a fellow accordionist band member about it, and he said: Play a little bit EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. Don't miss a single day. If you want to continue playing you have to do this. Dial right back, just play very slowly and play very quietly, minimal bellows movement, push through the pain. Build up from there. I had 3 months of quite severe pain every time I played. Then 3 months of not so much pain. Then over the final 3-6 months, the pain vanished and I was good to go again. But it was a commitment. Best advice I ever received. And now I play pretty much every day and love it. I hope you find peace, tranquility and no pain! Take care.

      Thank you so much for your insight and encouragement 🙏 it’s been a difficult journey for sure with this darn shoulder but I’m learning things that could prevent others from having to deal with it. When I’m on the other side of this all I will have to share a video with all of my findings. There’s so many little nuggets of wisdom I’ve gained over the years, I definitely need to try and pass it along. I’m glad you found a way to make it all work. I’m looking forward to making my long awaited return, although it’s been a nice change of pace to sit in front of the keys more and learn piano. Do you stand when you play at all or mostly seated?

    This is very sad. I just want to show my support and offer my experience and you get to decide if it helps or not. I'm an older guy 71 yo and I had shoulder problems to the point where I thought I wouldn't be able to play accordion again. I did the same as you did with physio which help a lot and took a personal trainer. We worked on the shoulder doing strengthening exercises as well as a lot of stretching. We also worked on posture making sure my back was straight and that I didn't raise my right shoulder. It took 3 years to get rid of the pain. I continued playing accordion although I changed to a Roland FR3x because it's not heavy and doesn't require a lot of pushing and pulling. I play about an hour a day now after warming up and do my stretching afterward. I found it hard and wanted to quit many times. What kept me going was all the seniors that I make happy when I go and play for them. Hope you can find something that can help you in my experience.

    • @SqueezeandThanks
      @SqueezeandThanks  3 роки тому +1

      Marcel, thanks so much for your message! I’ve been really fortunate to connect with so many accordionists who have shared their experiences. I’m glad you were able to find a solution that works! Did you hear that that 3x was even more responsive to pulling and pushing than the other models? I had a 8x I was mainly using but switched to the 4x but the 4x has this natural type of bellow leak that happens no matter if you’re pressing anything or not. The 8x seemed to mechanically release the bellows when you press buttons or keys. Different feel altogether. But my 4x is used and maybe they start to leak more over time?
      The shoulder has always been my weakest point, and losing all my muscle mass when I fell into that depression didn’t help. I don’t think I’ll be back to a spot of playing without discomfort until I do swell up a bit again to hold everything in place. I look at photos of myself and it’s crazy how much I lost. It’s tough not being able to do much of any upper body with this injury. But consistency with what I have in front of me now will be the only way out.
      I’m glad you have an audience who loves and appreciates you for bringing music into their lives. I love that you’re fighting the good fight for them. Pain or not, living in those fleeting moments of performing is what makes everything worth it.
      Thank you so much for sharing your experiences Marcel 💯 🤗 🎶

    Hey man - I had the same problem with my 120 bass a few years back where I struggled to play it for longer than twenty minutes sitting down due to the strain on my back and upper body. I’ve found switching to smaller accordions (48, 72 and some 96 bass models) much more helpful as I can play those for an hour or two with no issues. Obviously to be in 8/10 on a pain scale (as mentioned I. the video) it might be difficult regardless but maybe worth exploring?

    • @SqueezeandThanks
      @SqueezeandThanks  3 роки тому

      The 120 can be a real problem for sure... even switching to the smaller student/female size accordions, it’s a lot of weight to be moving around like that. I haven’t had much experience trying smaller accordions mainly because I haven’t come across any. The 120’s are a dime a dozen on Craigslist. I would love to see what it would be like trying a 96 or 72. I absolutely love playing in F# so losing those options at the ends would be tough.

      Hey thanks so much Art! He sent me that message 10pm the night before the show and I missed it... so it was just sitting and chilling in my inbox while we met and waited and all of that... so many people messaged me the night before wishing me well and it got buried... insane. But it all happens for a reason I suppose. Next time will be better. I appreciate you rooting for me man, it’s been a tough tough journey, but I don’t want anything else more than this. I’ll get back to it soon enough I hope. Hope you’ve been well brother!

    Why did you get your shoulder problem? Is it posture? It is something that we can avoided?

    • @SqueezeandThanks
      @SqueezeandThanks  2 роки тому

      Hey Edgar! Always connect the back strap and you should be fine. It was a combination of that, using one of the biggest accordions that I didn’t necessarily need, the roland FR8X… and also using an electric accordion. A lot of my songs I play to backing tracks so I needed the volume of the accordion to be the same with very little dynamics, so to achieve that I would pull and push as hard as I could so the volume would remain constant… the excess pulling and pushing to maintain the same volume created an unnatural resistance because the bellows would only open as fast as they could with me fighting it… if that makes sense. After switching to my Hohner bravo I would never go back to electric, even with a smaller one, the feeling is very unnatural and in my case, destructive :(

      Thank you, is good to know this because, i got a new accordeon since last april, a 120 bass Alessandrini accordeon, and when i play it, i feel tired fron my left arm and i dont have back strap. Thank for sharing this

    • @SqueezeandThanks

      @@edgaracostadavila204 happy to help Edgar, yes definitely invest in a good set of straps with a back strap… the wider the shoulder straps the better, it spreads the weight out more evenly.

      @@SqueezeandThanks Better mood, fit body/slim, lots of energy, better sleep, ect. In my experience with it is my energy, I have tons of it now compared to where I was the diet itself is simple and you don't have to count calories or anything which is great l, I always hated to count them and restrict myself. What I find most appealing is that it just makes sense and it's a diet with a long history, I recommend you to watch some videos of Dr. Mcdougall and see what you think.
