    I could have added in so many other options now I've seen this back, but this was all that popped into my head at the time! thanks for all the suggestions, maybe we make a follow up to this?

    Interesting how you highlighted that if they pull your arm your instinct is to pull back.

      Hi Scott, yes that opens up another can of worms around keeping your ego and emotional content out of your reaction to "attacks" and simply responding from ma biomechanical standpoint. Could be a good video actually thank you!

    If you tap the holding thumb, it would get unlocked and release easily.

    • @AIKIDOSILVERDALE
      @AIKIDOSILVERDALE  2 роки тому +1

      Yes - that's yet another very good grip release, although the thumb is the strongest point of the hand and has muscle groups in several directions as well as the stronger tendon anchor, so if you got this wrong you'd not only end up back where you started but might re-align their drip even stronger, this was more about the body movement and simple beginner breakouts.

      When you say 'tap" do you mean rap it hard with your knuckle?

    • @tandendo
      @tandendo 2 роки тому

      @@RetrogasmicPodcast No, it would be like knocking a door or Knock knock joke. Very lightly on Interphalangeal (IP) Joint. Ultimately you can blow air from your mouth on it. It still would work.

      Sorry but I don't understand that. How can you release a thumb by blowing on it?

    On your way to kote gaeshi, you move past a chance at the yonkyo grip as well (at about 4:57). And while pain compliance should maybe not be relied on as a restraint, the pain could enable you to get loose. Of course, your partner (at that moment) might have that same grip on you at that moment.

      good spot, sice the edit I've seen about three other things I could do! But that's exactly the point, once the core mechanics are correct it opens up many reactions, depending up the uke's line of force and what you "feel" at the time.

    It's really amazing how knowledge could be turned backwards. Breaking the grip is most basic Jujutsu skill lack of which in Aikido claimed by different types of people. And now Aikido people moves from kinonagare techniques which are quite high level to the basic that actually useless for Aiki skills. It's a gift when opponent hold you strongly 'cause it's easy to use Aiki techniques in that case and old Aikido which was same as Daito-ryu tactics exactly to allow grips to perform techniques. More about it you could read in articles of Takumakai director Hakaru Mori.

    Your movement of turning clockwise would be an excellent moment to raise your left arm to protect and prepare for a rear elbow strike to his face, or keep the left arm down but push into his elbow with it, creating an arm bar, or elbow press as we call it’s , Niko we call z lock or snake lock. Hapkido English terms we have adapted. So many nice wrist grab defenses.

    • @AIKIDOSILVERDALE

      Absolutely there are many options that open up as a result of both releasing the grip but also closing the space.
