Thank you so much for posting this. I trained and got my black belt at the kodokan 20 years ago. I loved seeing my old dojo. Also thank you for being a man of your word and respecting your promise about not showing the techniques. At first I was VERY shocked that they allowed you to be up there with a camera to begin with. In the world of Judo, that place is Sacred. Thank you for being respectful.

This is a prime example of how welcoming most martial artists are and the Japanese people in general. Great video.

Respect for your love and dedication! As a Japanese judoka, it's kind of interesting watching overseas judokas' real excitement and tension to be there lol

I came to Japan from China seven years ago. While studying at school, I also practiced judo. I really love this sport and occasionally go to the 講道館 on weekends. I’m very happy to see you training at the 講道館 and hope we’ll have the chance to train together in the future.😊

Can you plan a trip to Ascension Island / Tristan da Cunha. It's probably going to be hard to plan and also expensive but I think making those episodes would put you in a different travel sub-genre.. Going to most remote parts of the world and really showing how they live, what they eat and the kinda infrastructure they have. I think you will get some really good scenic shots but idk abiut the food.
Travel shows with 50% focus on local food is the magic number. If you make episodes in South Asia... boy you're gonna find some REALLY GOOD food.
      Good luck broski

Great video. I already watched this video 3x. Looking forward to earn your black belt soon. Going to Kodokan and train(or even just as a spectator) is on my bucket list. I used to do Judo when I was in grade school and now doing BJJ but using judo to set up throws. I know LA Judo and Tenri LA are 2 of the goods dojos in your area.

@JuliusCameron you’re welcome and to add to that. If your sensei have some lineage in Japanese universities( like example Tenri LA) you might have a chance to visit Tenri University and train there. Like when Shintaro Nakano(Chuo University alumnus who now has a dojo in San Jose) went to Japan with his students and trained there.

Oh man! If I only knew that you could train for a day there being a complete beginner I would have done it. 😢 I only took a couple of judo classes but I know my falls since I hold a black belt in aikido. Next time I’m in Japan I will do it for sure

I don’t know where you’re at in LA but there are a couple good dojos. You can check out Sawtelle (west LA), Tenri (east LA), Norwalk (south east LA), Valley Judo Institute (SFV). There is also San Fernando Valley Judo, Gokor’s and a couple Armenian gyms in Glendale. I haven’t been to any gyms in Orange County. Also a lot of bjj gyms around and some allow standup during rolls which is good to supplement mat time. But I recommend progressing in judo a little further before going to a bjj gym for extra rounds, it’s a different culture and most people respect judo players but some don’t and may try to go in hot 😂.

Dude thanks for the info! I really appreciate it! I gotta get better with grappling!!!

    • @seanthomas707

@ I rarely train Judo anymore because of my schedule but still regularly train BJJ. Valley Judo Institute is my dojo, but I’m living a good distance away from there right now. It’s a welcoming place especially if you have history with Gardena Dojo. I can train BJJ mornings before work and it works out well. I’ve been doing Judo since 2008, and started BJJ in 2022.
Also you don’t have to wait to train BJJ at all, it’s not a requirement to learn judo first. Depending on your schedule it may be better to go to bjj, there are far more options for training schedules and a lot of judo players cross train. Most BJJ gyms train 5-6 days a week while the average judo gym is 2-4 times a week. Good luck, maybe I run into you on the mats one day.
