I ran into that my 1st season, I almost didn't stick with it. I am so glad I did, Give the Loss to God they were His bees to begin with. He understand the Hart of a Good Steward, He Strengthens us when we come up short. Look at it this way, you don't have to get more boxes and have a ton of drawn comb.😁 I Hope and Pray you and your Family have a Wonderful Christmas.
Amen! Can't forget the 400 pounds of honey I harvested either. Or the colonies I sold. That said it is disheartening to lose colonies. Merry Christmas. Most of our kids are grown with grown children of their own. We may see a couple, don't know. All is good. Fortunately, we see most of them at least once a year, some more. We are blessed for sure. Again Merry Christmas to you and yours. Happy Beekeeping.
Got a pail of Ultra Bee under my desk. My bees have plenty of honey stores. Just thinking about using sugar as insurance. May mix Ultra Bee patties for later use. We get some warm days even in January. Certainly after February 15 we'll see days in the 60s so, I can check the colonies.
Hi Richard, there is no shame in knowing when your done. However if you feel like continuing, you could consider smaller equipment like 8 frame. You could even use only medium supers, three medium 8 frame supers instead of 10 frame deeps. Also i agree with using hive alive fondant. I wouldnt use pollen rught now. Merry Christmas, and happy new year.
Yes, when your done, your done. No shame. Funny you should mention 8 frame. I've been making thumbnails for a video about that this evening. Personally I tried 8 frames and decided I could just pull frames from a ten frame hive and make a box lighter and easier to move. Turns out I found that easier than having a tall stack of supers to move to get to the bottom. So, I have quite a few 8 frame hives I use for smaller colonies and that works well. There are advantages and disadvantages. I like 8 frames for making splits. Thanks for the comments and for watching.

Theoretically if you keep breeding your survivors your loss rate should go down. You might look at getting some VSH queens to help out.
