0:49 The best uses of CAT scans
0:58 The problem with CT scans
1:20 What to do if you need a CT (CAT scan)
I wanted to make this quick video about CT scans vs MRI scans. How do these scans differ? CT is short for computerized tomography, and MRI is short for magnetic resonance imaging.
Here is the biggest difference between the two:
    • CT scans use X-ray radiation but are much faster than MRIs.
    • MRI scans use radio waves and magnets to create a very detailed image.
MRI scans are great for taking images of:
    • Joints • Brain tissue
    • Breast tissue
    • Blood vessels
    • Discs
    • Organs
    • Torn ligaments
CT scans are great for taking images of:
    • Bone fractures
    • Tumors
    • Cancer
    • Internal bleeding
    Problems with getting CT scans:
    • The amount of radiation that a single scan exposes you to is equivalent to 200 chest X-rays. •
You often need to go back for subsequent scans, which exposes you to even more radiation.
    • Too much radiation can cause damage to your DNA. When talking about CT scans vs MRI scans, you can see that MRIs are the best way to go.
However, there are certain situations where only a CT scan will work. In that case, I recommend doing three things to help offset the effects of the radiation on the body:
    • Take niacin
    • Fast before and after
    • Consume cruciferous vegetables

I was double CT-d in the hospital when I had a kidney stone. The first time the doctor made a mistake. He ordered a chest CT when I complained about a lower back pain. Two CT in one night! I was vomiting and had diarrhea for many weeks after that plus my face aged 10 years in a month. When I visited my general practice doctor she literally laughed at me when I told her it must had been because of the CT. She said CT does no harm.

    • @micah7685
      @micah7685 2 роки тому

She lied to you. My abdomen and pelvic ct scan for a suspected kidney stone literally microwaved my insides enducing radiation poisoning. Brutal. I threw up for months and my skin changed coloration, beard quite growing, could barely eat and went through symtoms of being burned alive with reduced organ function accross my body. 180 t levels from the radiation blasting my balls. Get a ultrasound next time. I learned the hard way. 1 ct scan and hundreds of xrays is similar to the radiation exsposure as some Hiroshima survivors. They are carelessly radiating the hell out of healthy people with these scans

You were suffering from radiation sickness and that scan trashed your gi system from cell necrosis from the radiation otherwise known as radiation entritis. She lied to you as they all do

Have your hormone levels checked, if your on the lower end of the normal t level range say under 400, that scan most likely nuked your balls as well.

Unfortunately most people get a CT scan because:
    - its cheaper which insurance companies like
    - its faster which allows a hospital to use it more often during a day
    - hospitals want to use it as long as possible because of ''return on investment'' before replacing all CT with MRI.
    - the hospital simply doesn't have a MRI
    - the hospital has a MRI but the waiting list is too long
You can get about 1 year worth of natural radiation within 15 minutes from a CT scan. Your doctor should have a very good reason to refer you for a CT over a MRI. Question your doctor.

    • @micah7685
      @micah7685 2 роки тому

More like 3 to 15 years of radiation in 1 scan alone unless it is a head ct. They are radiating the hell out if people when they could use an mri or uktrasound instead. They also are not transparent about the risks or radiation exspsosure upfront and provide zero disclosure forms or many health conscious people would definately decline a ct

I had a few CT Scans over the past week which revealed I have/had bowed cancer. Surgery so far seems to have removed the tumours from my large intestines & bladder but it had also spread in small amounts to my liver which they say will be dealt with by chemotherapy. I have stage 4 cancer, I’m 45 and in hospital recovering. I had lost weight and strength so needed a blood transfusion before surgery. On the operating table they apparently had a choice to let me go or cut more so they cut and I’m still here fighting. They have suggested my days may be numbered by the liver cancer but as a husband and father I will fight every day to live a good and full life with my family.
I current have a stoma and have been struggling to eat enough proper foods, I’m enjoying milk, yogurt & ice cream at the moment. I have been vomiting litres of nasty bile and now have a drainage bag down my nose to hopefully try and control it. I may be able to go home in a week or so and chemo will commence a few months after when I’m strong enough.
I did have an ultrasound first and had included some niacin & fasting prior to scans and surgery.

CT should be used only when there is NO choice. Besides, MRI and CT are both very expensive, but they almost cost the same. The equivalent of 200 xrays is too much. I had no idea it was that much radiation. Besides, with MR1 3T and contrast you can get good images.

Good good information, now I understand the when-it should be used and what it can actually find. It seems to me cat scans are used indiscriminately and too often when one MRI would have found the health problem and not subjecting us to so much radiation and in the end run less cost to health system.

In 2005, I had a personality change. Like a different person. I had a Brain MRI. I had developed a brain, fluid filled, cyst; about the size of a walnut. Any operation (at that time) would be very dangerous. So I learned, over the following two years to accept, and like, who I had become, and accept that death could come for me any time... Now, it's 14 years later, and I'm sure there have been brain surgery advancements; but my "living on the edge," has a unique quality of it's own. The MRI took a couple of minutes, and cost over $6,000. No telling what one costs today.

Hi Dr. Berg, just had a head CT scan yesterday and I am very worried about the implications. I'm on keto diet now for a month and wonder if that would help? I did not receive any warnings prior the head CT Scan or was let aware of the amount of radiation I was going to receive. Any comments on that?

    • @boogyigloo3880

Hey man I'm fine, got a dose of 11 millisiever and already had 3 other CT prior to that (all unnecessary one and 2 as a teenager that could have been replaced by an MRI). Unfortunately, it looks like CT are cheaper than MRI (therefore being pushed by insurance compny) and that most patients have no clue about what it does to your body. I just found out about CT radiation after the last one I did. To my biggest surprise, even the doctor that prescribed it at the hospital did not know the absorbed amount of radiation and told me that the radiations from the CT I just had were equivalent to one transatlantic flight. I had to email the radiology dept. in order to know the msv amount I got, none of the staff there knew and finally had to talk to the physician.

Like the Pheripheral Nerve Stimution. because of the magnetic gradient fields. And some people have headache and twitching in the nerve. So this is dangerous I must say.

Dangerous ionizing radiation is used in CT scans. MRIs do not use radiation, therefore they are much safer.
