Thank you for these wonderful photos. Having been born and brought up in Castleford these pictures have brought back many happy memories. Castleford was a lovely place with a great community.
So many memories of things my grandparents told me of their childhood home. I remember my Nanna telling me about the Roman excavation. Her teacher many years previously had loved to talk about the Romans and it turned out her house had been above the site. The teacher was long gone by the time of the excavation but my Nanna always said she’d have loved knowing what was under her home. I’m especially loving the market photos. I’m always telling people how many stalls were in the old market, it’s great to show them. Thanks for these videos, I love them!
I loved old Castleford how it once was and now changed into a town I hardly know. The sixties and seventies I liked the best there living in my youth then. Fond happier times I had and now older and living in beautiful York city I would like one day to return to Castleford to relive my old memories over again.
Wow how wonderful. Great photos loooooove it ?Dee from Ackworth later Pontefract the later Ripon and Harrogate now Southend on sea Essex So you can see how much I enjoyed these films. Thankyou best wishes to you
WOW... What a very pleasant suprise I got when I saw the picture @ 6.00. I was actualy born in the Aire and Calder Hotel in 1957 when my Grandparents where running it Joe & Florence Spedding. Also the house where the child is looking out of the window, is where I lived. 62 Wheldon Road. fantastic. Thanks. Grantley Simpson. Australia

Just brilliant this lot!!
The memories come flooding back for what was a thriving mining town full of ‘real’ people. Today?
