I've watched quite a lot of speedruns, but don't run myself. I've never seen a 100% OOT run before and I'm fucking astounded at the level of research and trial and error that has gone into a run like this, I know OOT back to front as a casual gamer, so I could follow it all and realise just how completely destroyed OOT has become! Incredible.
Is saving actually necessary in a normal speedrun? I mean, he should've saved for marathon safety, but from my understanding failing that wrong warp still looses 2 minutes even with a save and thus makes it a definite reset.
saving there isn't necessary at all, but I would have really liked it because I wanted to see ZFG show off the wrong warp backup strat that I helped discover/talk about the cutscene pointer aspect of wrong warps
I love that he's the only speedrunner who gets cheered for like 5 minutes when he runs something. And it's deserved, his level of skill is supernatural.
I like zfg's calm demeanor. He always lets the runs and tricks speak for themselves, he never seems awkward up there, i feel like other runners get worried about being underwhelming but he just does his thing and wants us to see something cool
It's actually amazing that after all this time since the games release, a room full of people can still come together and be so hyped for oot. Speedrunning has given the game a second life!
I think it's just habit from being on twitch with people who know the run and what's happening already. Most of the runners are just used to not narrating so at the marathon they just don't think about it constantly because they're running and end up forgetting to talk.
I like how (at 3:00:00) after Dampe eats five minutes trying to dig up a heart piece, the couch says spooky mask kid is the worst NPC in the game, followed by Ruto.
"So what I did was called an infinite sword glitch, where I crouch stabbed and then performed an action to interrupt my crouch stab" Me: *Watches A+Start* You know, I'm something of a scientist myself
What I love about a run like this is how handily it demonstrates what a community effort something like this is. No single person could ever figure even half of this stuff out, but thousands (or even millions) of people coming together, reporting glitches that they've found over the course of two decades, reasoning how they could put them to use in a speedrun like this, and creating an optimized route for every category through a variety of efforts pioneered by at minimum several dozen different people is truly an amazing thing to behold.
Not gonna lie, ZFG. I've been listening to this run while at work, and being that I've played through OoT at least 20-30 times, hearing your explanations and everything makes me kinda wanna have a go at executing some of these speedrun strats to improve my speed with clearing it again. Thanks a ton for being a communicative and informative runner, and giving me a little inspiration to try speedrunning.
Literally the 6th time that i am watching this run and it's still mesmerizing to see just how far you are able to push the boundaries of whats possible Now that you are Routing/Learning a VC OOT Speedrun, i'll look forward to seeing it at a GDQ in a few years! Keep up the great work, you are THE BEST, ZFG!
You guys raised over a Million for Charity towards Cancer Prevention. It truly warms my heart to see passionate gamers doing such great things for the community.
I know this run is old as hell but I just gotta say thank you zfg. I just got my covid booster/flu shot and I feel like shit but watching this run is making my day genuinely great
2:10:30 Cool trivia here, due to the sequence breaking this message from Saria displays that is impossible to see in a normal play through. It's listed under "Saria hints" on the TCRF website, and only displays if you've completed Jabu Jabu but haven't spoken with Darunia, and thus haven't acquired bombs yet; this normally cannot happen because the path to Zora's Domain is blocked by bombable rocks.
I’m glad you did the n64 version I miss that mirror shield and fire temple! I have no problems with the new changes I just miss the old too much nostalgia and all.
It fascinates me how people can watch someone play video games for almost 5 hours straight! That's some dedication right there! Also, to the speedrunner who had to memorize it all is worthy of a shout out as well!! Keep this up guys! I never really been into speedrunners or GDQ but after watching MajinPhil beat Majora's Mask, I was hooked. Now time to watch Ocarina and bask in its gloryyyy
Mr. ZFG, how do you remember everything you need to do in a run? You don't have a piece of paper/notebook/tablet/anything with you? You sir have an incredible level of skill & dedication to your craft, and you should get some kind of award. Not to mention the time it must take to figure out all these glitches.
Thanks for your reply! I also find it incredible how knowledgeable you are about every single detail of this game. Especially using bombchu's to light the dodongo's eyes, I thought that was really cool, since there are no glitches involved. And one final question, how many years have you been speedrunning Ocarina of Time?
Thanks! Also I have one more question, in the Kakariko graveyard I have come across a strange type of poe, with a composer wand/hat, described only as "Poe of the Graveyard". But I can't find any videos of it, so it's almost like I'm the only one who's discovered it. Have you found this strange poe?
Played this game loads when it came out and completed it 100% several times. But this is just ridiculous (in a good way!). How on earth you work out the fastest way through a game like this is just remarkable.
jeeze, there's so much different shit in this run compared to ZFG's current pb which is 3:52 if i remember correctly. big different since this run and 8 months later.
One thing the original Ocarina of Time has over the 3D remake, that introduced me to this awesome game, is that in the original game, the town center with the fountain has chattering people, to make it more realistic. :)
Dude. ZFG, you are a master at perfect timing Also, the door of time is still sealed so how does gannondorf take over the sacred realm? The sacred realm is still sealed
this is endlessy fascinating and entertaining to watch. can anyone explain how he used the warp songs (Minuet of Forest, Serenade of Water) without learning them first? or point at a url with the answer? this run is excellent for the excellent commentary going on but this is one thing i think i may have missed?
I can, though I'm not familiar with the route to find where Minuet is gotten. Both songs are obtained by dying on the frame that the warp song cutscene triggers. Serenade is obtained at 1:23:45
how not to game Buy a 2ds for 80 €/$ and then you can buy the remake for like 20 €/$ You can search for cheap bundles in online too. (My friend bought a used 2ds and oot zelda 3d for 40€ )
Let's say that there was a glitch found that could save 5 minutes off of any version, any route (let's say it skips the intro cutscene and a few other required ones as well, or something like that). The catch is that from the beginning (maybe it involves spamming b during the cutscene, so the glitch would activate at the start and not deactivate until you beat ganon) you forever have the low-health beeping sound. Every second, no matter what actual health, during cutscenes, during loading, and maybe even overriding the other bg music. Would you do it?
gammerbro567 You underestimate the determination of the speed running community. I'm sure they would do it even to shave a few seconds off of the run-- let alone 5 minutes.
I've watched quite a lot of speedruns, but don't run myself. Wow. A video where the run starts right away??!!!
It's not an official upload, that's why.
How can you say not official upload? Its almost 5 hours long at a gdq, and with that audience.
