I love the fact that you feature my beloved GLT in your ads! Good work, Robert. I hope this isn't offensive, but I think of you as the "Black Swede." :)
Hi Robert. Had to do a complete rear brake renewal on my beloved 850. Followed your video and helped me save a lot of time and grief. Many thanks. Denis.
Thank you very much Robert for all the videos, all is explain clearly and it has helped me saving a load amount of money more than once, greetings from France!
Your video was extremely helpful when changing the handbrake cable on my Volvo today. This is not the first video of yours that helped me. Thank you for your great work on UA-cam! Tom (Germany)
Thanks for another great video Robert. I've just done my handbrake shoes and had to adjust them as per your video. Fortunately my cables are still in good condition but now I know what is involved in replacing them for the future. Hope you are having a great day and enjoying good health. Cheers. Den.
Thank you for all your videos!!! I'm preparing a 1998 V70 as a Gambler rally car, and you're helping me every step! My first Volvo and I might be hooked. Cheers!
Thank you, this video was very useful for me, the repair shop had installed the new cables incorrectly and they we're rubbing on the tires because the riveted holder? was not installed at all, might have to get new cables because the tire ate through the cables outside layer.
@@RobertDIY Sorry I just meant the main brake cable that runs through the car, it was sold online as Front Brake Cable instead of the Left or Ride side cable
Thank you Robert for this tutorial, I did not know how to reach the adjustment of the lever, shame to pass a little quickly on the fixing of the console, I should find! very well framed and explained. practice the list of necessary tools, a torque wrench to apply which torque to? thank you very much again for this complete tutorial.
Hi Robert, today I started replacing the handbrake cable (and all the rest as well) and I got one question. Is the plastic cap at the and of the cable pushed into the socket by using the handbrake? Because I did not get it into it properly, the plastic ist stiff and new and I can not push properly. Thanks a lot, Simon
Hi Robert! Thanks for your good instructions. I have a problem after replacing the cables. Handbrake grabs perfect in front direction. But backwards it is weak and vehicle will roll. Any idea? Thanks Markus
Hi Robert, I’m going through replacing my parking brake cables myself and was wondering what that tinfoil bag behind the drivers seat is for? Thanks for your vids, they have been a great help!
One of the pins that hold the shoe broke off, it was rusted real bad. I'm talking about the pins at 9 and 3 o'clock. Do you think I can drive the car without it, if I manage to assemble everything back together?
Hello Robert, do you have in your video archive, instruction, how to replace the hand break shoe,on Volvo S90 2922 Bhp 204 mad in 1988 Best Regards, Aaron.
Robert, Great video! Thanks from all of us...with that said I'm chasing the adjustment on the adjustment screw and simply cannot get the shoes set properly on my 2000 V70XC AWD...what am I missing here? I did all the brakes at once and went to move the car with handbrake down and car felt like I was dragging a load of bricks behind her...please help if you have time.
Robert DIY I found my issue, parts that were set were incorrect as the offset on rear rotors were for Girling calipers and not ATE (Volvo) calipers... dang eBay fine print got me... thanks for your help regardless... also I used your videos to help me navigate swapping out my radiator yesterday and cleaning the throttle body while I had access, now I just wish I had changed the starter even though it has no issues right now just because of the access I had to it
Hey Robert, I'm having a problem where the brake doesn't fully release when you release te handbrake. The wheel rubs really badly when going forwards, only after having rolled backwards only the smallest amount, it comes loose. Any idea what might be the cause?
@@RobertDIY i've checked the shoe adjustment if that might be too tight, not the case. I've checked the drum in the rotor and sanded it, also fine and i checked the little clamps that hold the shoes in place. I did find out that the entire assembly shifts as if set clamps aren't tight enough even though they're thight up against the shoes.
Do you know how to remove the headlight assembly? I hit a cement cone (the ones that they use in parking lots for signs and pushed in my headlights on the driver side slightly. It’s a 1985 Volvo 740 I’m guessing there’s like a L bracket that hold the headlight assembly in place that I just need to wrap a tow strap around it and use a winch to straighten it out. Any help or advice is much appreciated! It’s got the independent 4 headlights for brights and low beams
19:00 how to clean the whole there? I cannot get my new wire to fit beacause the is so rusty. Cleanes it for two hours yesterday but I still could not make it fit. Any tips?
Thank you as my own personal finland view handbrakes does get stuck just if not use it in changing weather (summer to winter). Example grandmom always had problems with handbreaks as she rarely uses it.. Mom too with her car but after she started using it no more annual handbrake problems (with older cars) :)
Daewoo, Seat... no matter of car when old at least. Unused brakes gets rusty and locks up so its been here that better use them if want keep them happy no matter of weather (I don't mean going every turn with handbrake - just normal usage.. to add to this manual cars is the most used gearbox type over here so no parking locks with gearbox.. So that is too another difference why here more used to use handbrake/parking brake with gearbox selected 1st gear).
Hi Robert, love ur videos :) I want to change my cable for the third brake light on my v70 -99. But I dont know where to *install* it in the box in the back. I cant find any video of that on your channel. Regards Mille from Sweden
You definitely want that power at your disposal when it's needed most...like entering a highway & trying to merge. Volvo's 'econ' mode upshifts way too early for my tastes. Completely agree w/Mr Robert!!
Robert, on my 1998 V70, the parking brake only works forward. If I let the car roll backwards it just doesn't stop. I tried adjusting it tighter until I got to a setting which stopped the car also backwards, but then the brakes were too tight for a normal forward movement.. Help!
The reason I'm watching your video (as I always do when something goes wrong with my 850) is that I pulled out of my driveway and the left rear wheel suddenly locked up! After some thought, I decided some part of the emergency brake came loose and locked up the hub. I haven't had a chance to check that theory out, but I'm fairly sure I'm going to find a broken off hinge or adjusting bolt to be the culprit when I open it open. I hope it's that simple.

I'm curious about that scraping noise as you turn the hub, the same thing happens on both my V70 and Mazda.
Could be the dust shields or normal pad contact.
Any advice to get out the back bushing arms on the V70? It's a bit hard to get rid of the entire piece, it never come!

If I just want to replace the cable, is it still necessary to take the wheel and break system off?
Yes.

It just goes in a little, then when you secure the cable to the suspension, it will stay in place.
Only to use handbrake during winter if i had to? I am been using every single time i want and i park the car.. no problemo :)
