IPD Volvo - 850 Odometer Gear

Volvos are notorious for odometer/trip-meter failure. A common problem is a tiny gear inside the speedometer that loses a tooth and causes intermittent or complete failure. If your speedometer still shows your speed but the odometer doesn't show your mileage we have the solution. Our replacement gear is plastic injection molded of a much stronger material to exceed the factory gear quality and ensure long lasting performance. This gear is the most common cause of odometer failure on 850 models. It fixes the problem in 99% of cases but in some rare cases, you may need also another gear.

If you do it how he does in this video, you will break the clips at the other end of the dash pad and when you put it back together, it will squeek / rattle. It really isn't that much extra effort to take out the last few screws, disconnect the other speaker, and remove the dash pad completely.

It's been years since I had to do this operation and the gear has also been bought, but I just haven't bothered to start. Maybe this year.. it would be good to look at the actual miles and get the mechanical meter correct read

I can't believe I just did all this, found the broken tooth & everything, got it all back together, but it still hasn't fixed the problem !!!
I guess the stepper motor must have burnt out or something.
On the brightside, I took the opportunity to really clean the lens properly & its looks spectacular

IPD sells the kit. If not, FCP Euro sells the kit which is both gears and the lights for about $25.
