Excellent work, I put together an F4a42 following your tutorial, the only fault that occurred is that the transmission hits when it goes from 2nd to 3rd, the only doubt I have is with the position of the accumulator springs, a bad position of the springs Could it cause this malfunction? the scanner does not show DTC for the transmission module, it is installed in a Tucson 2008 4x4. Thank you very much, I would appreciate your opinion.
I wonder what causes the famous 2nd to 3rd gear clunk bang flare in the F4a42-1, and F4a42-2, F4a51. . Any info about the 2nd to 3rd gear hard shift? Happens 100% of time when warm. Normal for first few cold miles. Happens any rpm, worse with more rpm, only upshift bang going into 3rd. Otherwise great. Nice fluid, level.. No codes, no limp mode.. Thanks @Curmudgeon Transmission !
Could be worn ring lands on the pump and/or rear cover. Look on the lower left of the back cover and see if it has R14 on there. If not it may have wear. The R14 covers were made from tougher material and resisted wear better. If it is just the rear cover that can be replaced in the vehicle. Have also run into issues with the speed sensors causing all kinds of shifting problems with these units. DO NOT try and use cheap sensors on these units. Pop for the factory ones. Check all the grounds and even take them off and clean them. See if the battery has leaked down onto the neutral switch and corroded it or the transmission connector there.
@@CurmudgeonTransmission Very good information as always ! Neutral switch clean, battery and terminals clean\good. Some grounds cleaned up, will finish all grounds and check for R14 rear cover update. Ran speed sensor launch scanner test while road testing and VSS appears to be 1.5 to 2.5mph higher reading than speedometer. Does this 1.5 to 2.5 difference (zero when stopped) point to bad VSS? I've never tested VSS before with my scanner but it stays about 2mph higher on scanner. (stock tires) Held at 20mph, the scanner says 22.1, that is what I ended up writing down, as well as 30mph said 31.8 on scanner. Thanks ! Have a good day!
@@DevJB I have noticed that they do read a little higher than what the vehicle says. It will be a discrepency between the 2 speed sensors. I will see if I can find the paper on what the values should be.
whats the blue grease you use? any ill effects from having hands in atf all the time? vid is excellent will use if my outlander 2003 trans ever needs rebuild, I've had to use shudder fix to stop lock up clutch shudder probably due to using generic atf
@@CurmudgeonTransmission Thank you, sir, for your response..I just over-houled my Grandis automatic...only there was a problem when reversing, there was a slight jerk...I wonder where the mistake is...hopefully you can give me a solution...thank you
A multitude of things can cause it. However, if there are no codes stored in the computer. I would make sure the engine idle is not too high. If it is not I would make sure you did not mix up or misposition the accumulator springs.
@@CurmudgeonTransmission ok sir, I will re-disassemble the arrangement, how many mm is the distance between the canvas plate and the snap ring... thank you very much
@@CurmudgeonTransmission I didn't do anything to this trans cause it was a used one I work in scrab yard car was accidental but the pan was super clean I chked it ND I live in Kuwait so some times we important parts from USA also but I almost every trans have flare shirt after rebuilding
This is great. I'm about to embark on rebuilding the transmission in my Tucson and this video is going to be a great help.
Thanks for watching.

Yes it can. Wrong position or even if the spring is not past the ledge in there can definitely cause it.
Thank you very much, you are an excellent professional, a spring was definitely stuck in the step.
