Thanks! Been waiting on this one. I used to travel through(around) Centralia often when working in that area. I can remember seeing steam comming out at times as I passed.
I wish the wife would have caught me on the truck Dash Cam as I stood out in the 40mph wind and rain with shear PANIC on my face... I got the drone home, but it was so bad that I almost told it to auto RTH (return to home) and then thought... "well, if I can't get it back, its onboard is not gonna get it back". If it was within my first year of drone flying, it would have TOTALLY gotten lost and most likely "kited" away.
Phew! Glad Aeolus made it! And while it might not have been your intention, I love the footage of the sudden storm! I look forward to your re-shoot. Lots of info I never knew about Centralia. And I love how hot your wife thought you were until you started talking. ROFL Thanks!
LOL... that piece with Iggy was when I was trying to do "funny" shot bits at the beginning of the videos. It turned out so campy and cringe... but hey, at least it was fun and nerdy. Make sure you check out the whole video from where that clip was taken... I had COVID before it was officially named "COVID" and was trying to traverse really high rocks. ua-cam.com/video/yJcg-Lk_fmQ/v-deo.html
I went to college in Central PA and driving to and from school I would often drive through Centralia. It was kinda sad and spooky to see where the row houses had been knocked down where families had moved out. There would be half a row, then a space and the other half of the row. I remember seeing the glow off the side of the highway at night in places where the ground had opened up. This was before they rerouted the road, which then became the graffiti highway
@@ODDySEEy i have seen videos of a geyser just off big mine road from the intersection. Don't know if it's still active. But yeah eventually it will. However there is a concrete structure where byrnesville was located. That town was the first to go since it was by the mine where it started.
cool thats one place i havent gone yet . im going to visit tytoona in a few days and explore any sugestions for that spot to see or explore while there?
Thank you for your perspective on Centrailia. I never knew of its other name. I heard my grandfather had a job in the 80's that was an attempt of digging it out. I know that Susquehanna University was doing a microbe study and pulled a sample out this year that was 750 degrees. When you go exploring around there be careful because I heard from friends(that love to explore the area) that there are many hot openings around.
Centralia is cold and has been cold for over a decade. The hot area's are toward Ashland and Mt. Carmel. But thank your for your concerns... the ODDySEEy always makes the "safe" choice.
I was literally in a Panic. The wife was concerned with how I reacted. It was like a movie where the good guy runs into a tornado to save the dog that belongs to the crying girl in the car. That was me.
It's things like this I point to when folks ask me why I dont trust the government, especially when they ay "just trust us" in regards to current day fiascos.
The trees blowing show those who don't fly drones that the wind was really hummin along. Yes, PA government has only the Purest intentions... focus on that "purest" word... pure like white soap.
Very nice scott..I bet the water quality is probably bad as well in that area..I'm guessing the fires could possibly burn a hundred years with all coal still underground?..looking forward to next video
Wow... I didn't think of general water quality. Yeah, I betcha it sucks. And initial estimates is 200 years to consume all the coal. It has barely begun to burn, but Centralia itself is COLD now. It has moved toward Ashland and Mt. Carmel.
Thia place has always been very interesting to me. Used visit alot 12-15 years ago And walk around. Very cool, and creepy place. Read a few books on it.
It is creepy... but I think the creepiness is because we know city, we know suburb, we know rural, we know woods... so when there are woods in the city, our brain has a malfunction.
I think this upset a LOT of people. It was never a problem until the "Covid Hikers" came out. All those people pushing their agenda came out and all of our trails and heritage sites got trashed. And if you go through my videos for the 2020 and 2021 years, you can see it progressively getting worse.
@@ODDySEEy yep i know idiots ruin everything. The many atvs and bikers getting hurt didn't help much either. I wish i had the strength to go dig it up lol. It still can be seen in an area where they dropped a dirt pile here and a dirt pile there. Until they covered it completely.
I was surprised at how well it turned out. There were 12 individual sites I wanted to show and barely made it to the cemetery. When I head back that way I will get the footage (it will just be hotter... due to weather, not the fires).
There is a town in Washington named Centralia. Close to Olympia it is a fairly small town next to Chehalis, Washington. Olympia is actually the Capital of Washington. Why can't they put PA, next to the name!🤨
Because nobody has ever heard of Centralia Washington, and we don't complain about stupid things like that in a UA-cam Comments section on the East Coast. Thanks for Watching!
WORMY!! ...and then I was enthralled! "Nobody knows".....🤓💊P.S. Seems Aeolus WAS the appropriate choice of name! PSS...(hours later}: wait....he said "portals"...🤨....

There will be a part 2 and 3.
Purely amazing how that drone handled the raging windstorm there

Must of been neat to see, yet also something that hollows out your soul. Thank you for sharing that information... and thanks for watching.
I've been there at least 4 times was scary and heartbreaking abs breathtaking at the same time.
It will fade now that the fires have moved beyond the town and become more of a "woods" area with a highway in the middle.

Yep that's it lol
Thanks!
Thank YOU, BGW!!!
I love Centralia! This happened on my grandma’s birthday. I’m now her age when the fire started.
And your children's children will still be talking about it in the future.
Another great video, Scott. I’ve never been there but wondered if the ground felt warm in winter.
There used to be bare spots where snow wouldn't lay. The fire has moved more toward mount Carmel from what heard in the past
Centralia is now cold. The steam and heat vents are NE and moreso SE of the site now. You can find natural heat vents closer to Ashland.
Thanks Scott, I really enjoyed your opinion. I have never been there but always wanted to go. Keep up the Great Work 👍 👌
You should!

Neat that you got to see a before and after.
Fantastic information! It's starting to make sense now. Great job!

Now if we can just figure out what a henwhey and piecost comes out to be.
First episode of your work that I’ve ever seen. Thumbs up my dude, I enjoyed it.
Welcome to the ODDySEEy and thanks for the thumbs up :D
Scott do you ever get over towards Lancaster and Chester County , a lot of good stories over here .
If ya didn't see it... just did a run on Hellam in Hallam.
Glad to see the drone did not crash.
