Random Girl I'm american and for the most part Canadians don't really have an accent at all except there is a slight lilt on some words. But its barely noticeable.
My high school choir teacher called the "eh" or "I" sound in the vowels as singing wide, because the mouth spreads out further. He always advised us NOT to sing that way for choir, but most pop singers sing this way (not that that is a bad thing).

This one was fine, but I didn't like it when he sang with Sia. Their voices were so different, and I would much rather just listen to Sia. Sia's voice is really unique, and James's voice was disturbing it.

He's just so charming, attractive and lovely that everybody loves him..
Also something that stands out so much about him is EXACTLY WHAT YOU POINTED OUT he is ALWAYS having a good time when he is singing. I swear modern day pop singers just sing and know they sound good but you can tell he is going full force and is so proud of himself and genuinely letting loose. That’s so important as an artist yes take your job and talent seriously but don’t forget to enjoy what you’re singing. That’s a massive reason why I love him and as well as harry styles, David Bowie. Those artists just know how to feel their music and enjoy the moment and put everything they have into that one song. It comes so natural to them!
The Babcocks Yes! Exactly this! He just seems like a sweet and accepting guy. You can tell he loves music and performing but doesn't take himself too seriously - he seems to find value in others enjoying the experience with him, and sometimes that means letting his nerd flag fly. It's great. I feel like he and James feed off each other's crazy enthusiasm in the video, which is what made it so much fun to watch.

At 19- he's A M A Z I N G and the world's his for the taking. He's going to be a great leading man. I can wait because I want to enjoy him in his youth. I only wish he'd grow some thick skin, but that will come with age and right now that's what makes him so likable. He's talented a born entertainer seems open, innocent and a bit naive all in a gorgeous package. I wish him all the success in the world.

He's really talented and doesn't have to force his low notes. You can tell he's naturally a somewhat lower voice but has worked really hard to extend his range. My 'ih' sounds are a lot easier to hit in high actual chest voice too. Sometimes you just want actual chest voice for more power lol and with ih vowels I can sometimes go up as high as c5 now. But only ih 😂 any other vowel I have to mix

in the beginning when you said that he dodged the high note.. i don't think he did. I can hear HIM singing it, so idk if u just couldn't hear it but i can totally tell that he actually executed it. I don't hear the radio at all, I just hear him and James (and yes I can tell that it is actually him and not the radio because his voice almost cracks at the peak note)

Got 7 years of music class in school and this channel has taught me more about singing than my school ever could. Excellent job.
He sings exactly how he talks - with a nasally accent. I think that is what makes him unique. It throws the traditional methods you mentioned out the window. Even though he's from Toronto, it's almost as if he has a bit of a US Midwestern accent. Being from Cleveland, we can be quite nasal and pronounce things like he had. It's also just how his natural timbre sounds. I have exactly the opposite kinda voice (very choral, classical, sweet) and it's soooo hard for me to sing nasally! Though Tristan's advice has been helping me majorly.

But here’s the thing, he can’t sing THAT well... he mostly screams with (to me at least) seemingly barely any technique and whenever he tries to harmonise, it just doesn’t sound too great and to me just distracts from the professional singers he’s driving around. Maybe it’s because he has to drive and pay attention to the road, but like.. don’t

Great analysis. When you were talking about how Shawn sings "straight out of his mouth" I would describe that as he actually bounces the sound off the roof of his mouth. So rather then singing from his throat, he actually uses the hard palette as the sounding board and gets a stronger sound.
