    Brilliant Episode 1, Bernie! It's a testament to your ability that you can pepper the green with clubs that are too flat for your current swing. Great to see Coach Jamesy on the channel. BTW, I hope the arthritis doesn't progress too rapidly. I have it in my fingers, but so far it doesn't affect my swing or my enjoyment in the game.

    • @berniebarnesgolf
      @berniebarnesgolf  4 місяці тому +1

      Cheers Howie! Had a feeling I may need to alter lie angles, but was hoping the couple of changes I had made myself last year would have seen a few changes to my dynamic lie angle, but didn’t. Think I’ve got the arthritis under control,some days better then others as you probably know.

    Tempo looks awesome Bernie. Get those lofts adjusted, you’ve got the physical game and don’t forget the mental side.
    Without playing with you and only seeing what I have too much thinking hurts you most I think.
    You cant wait till your physical game is perfect (no such thing) to be confident, the mental side drives the other once you reach your level.

    Bernie, nice to see you taking lessons from a good coach and not trying to do all of it yourself, especially if your serious about getting down to scratch. the visual of the 3 lanes is superb. Love it. Never had lessons as a junior but when I got back into golf 7 or 8 years ago lessons were still videos of Adam Scott’s swing compared to your own, seems so ridiculous now. The value you get out of lessons now is so much greater than before, even if they do cost a bit more than they used to. This has proper made me want to have a lesson 😂

    Should be a great series Lester! Enjoyed watching that and I like how he only gave you a couple things to think about, and you have a fair amount of time to work on them before you go back 👍🏻 Never want to work on too many things at once. I always like having a new thought to use, rather than a setup change. Like you I try to avoid technical things and use more feel and ideas to sort things out.

    Yeah and so it begins, you will have to take that to the range and practice it, you should have no problem with that, the one shot you did was already an improvement, think what you will be like after 20 or 30 shots. Very simplistic but affective lol x⛳️⛳️

    That heel strike can also happen if your weight is on your toes during the downswing. This will cause you to lean forward thus moving the club to the heal.

    Really enjoyed this. I have a question though Lester. You are obviously a highly skilled cat 1 golfer and you absolutely nailed that green with those 7 irons. How much improvement do you think you need to do on actual technique? I have tried to focus more on the mental side of things and once you get to the standard you are is it more a case of finding a technique you are happy ( or comfortable with ) that you can trust and free your mind a bit?

    • @berniebarnesgolf
      @berniebarnesgolf  4 місяці тому

      It’s funny you should say that Richard, I’ve arranged a zoom call with a mind coach that I will film for the channel in the upcoming weeks Thad maybe of interest to you.
      With regards to technique I need things to work on / focus on to give me motivation to practice. So that’s why I have lessons, plus we are all searching for perfection 😂

    Good lesson Bernie, as I have said not too much wrong with the long game it's all about 125 yards in and the short game, I have had lessons with various club pros over the years and felt that none of them got to the real reasons why my game was stuck at the level it was, Kyle Smith ex Celtic Manor head pro was my go to for any real improvement but my Achilles heel is short game and even after lessons with an ex tour pro and masters player it was not any better, I have found on buying Dan Grieves book and watched his on line stuff it makes more sense, Coach Jamesie does look as if he cares about what you are trying to achieve, hope it all goes well, will look forward to the club altering vid i.e. lie angle, my clubs are std loft and lie and and I was wondering if an alteration would help.

    It was interesting what he was saying about you playing too straight, do you think you’ll work towards a draw or fade to help you have a known miss or just aim middle of the green and be prepared for a long putt?

    • @berniebarnesgolf
      @berniebarnesgolf  4 місяці тому +1

      I tend to see how I’m swinging it on the day and then play from there Steve. I generally hit 14/15 greens in reg and my iron play is the best part of my game, so it’s hard to change anything, although I would like to improve and hitting it closer will help.

    Lester Lester Lester. You need to get those irons bent back upright. 4* toe down isn't right. You know that.
    It will be damn near impossible to get your swing dialed in correctly with the lies out of whack on your irons.
    ...and you are damn close to having it dialed in, too. Your takeaway is too much to the inside...that is all. Your downswing and through the ball is really good. The takeaway is what will be the root of any issues. That, and your clubs being out of whack. Get those irons at the correct lie, and work on your takeaway and you'll be golden.
    Cheers.

    • @rowdyroddy519
      @rowdyroddy519 4 місяці тому +1

      You need to work on The Wall of Doom drill. Heels 15-16" from wall... swing club without hitting the wall.
      **The clubshaft should be parallel to your target line whenever it is level with the floor.** That's where your takeaway is off. You are pointed way right on the takeaway... and you come over the top of that plane on the way down... and that is the root of the heel strikes. When you start the takeaway, keep the clubhead outside your hands until the shaft is parallel and level, and then to the top. Then you will have space to come under that plane on the way down. The Wall of Doom will teach you not to take it back inside... or you'll smack the wall... and on the through swing it will teach you not to cut across the ball, or swing in to out too much... or you will also smack the wall. You'll be zeroing your path in no time with the Wall of Doom drill. ;) Cheers again
