- Tiong Bahru Market is one of the best Hawker Centres in Singapore. It is situated in Tiong Bahru - an area known for cafe culture, delicious food and rich, historical culture. This market opened in 1951 as Seng Poh Road Market. It was named after Singapore's 1st Chinese Municipal Commissioner, Tan Seng Poh. It was built to house a large number of street hawkers who had served the rapidly growing community at Tiong Bahru. The market was renamed as Tiong Bahru Market in 1993.
Tiong Bahru Market was closed and rebuilt in 2006. This new Market and Food Centre is a 2-storey building with a large central courtyard on a triangular site. The 1st floor has a wet market and provision shops. The 2nd floor has 85 food stalls and a seating capacity of 1050. The food here is mostly priced very reasonably ($3.50 to $4).

I enjoyed similar food courts very much in Singapore .... affordable and delicious. thank you for sharing
Hi, these are Hawker Centres. Food here are much cheaper than food courts. Many of the food are better than Food courts as the old hawkers are very experienced 😀
Always the best walking tour video captured.. in this food court and hawker center👌
This is one of the best four centres in Singapore. Thanks for your support my friend.
Haven’t been there for a long time...must go and try the chwee kueh again 👍😁 thanks for the tour 🙏👏
The Chwee Kueh is wonderful. Thanks for your comment 😀
Thank you for sharing this best hawker Center. I would definitely visit there if I travel to Singapore one day. The venders must being worked there for years. 👍🏼🤩
The hawkers here are older and experienced. Their food is cheaper and better than most other places. It's worth a visit. I shall be sharing a few other very popular Hawker centres in the coming months. The new Hawker centres have clean environment but the old Hawker centres have better food.
@@SingaporeCityWalks yes I could imagine how good the food must be in these older hawker centres. Singapore is a foodie heaven 🤩👍🏼
used to stay in redhill and i like visiting tiong bahru market area
Thanks for mentioning Red Hill. There are 2 Hawker centres there. I'll film there in a couple of months time ❤️
I'd probably go for the vegetarian bee hoon, with toppings which are not deep-fried. And a bottle of cold beer ;-)
This is an old market with many very good and popular stalls. I hope the vegetarian stalls are good too 😀
What're the top 5 stalls to try at the food centre?
Hi wnose, you can google Tiong Bahru Food Centre and there will be lots of inputs from foodies on the tops stalls. Thanks for watching 😀
Shall be there when a flight ticket come in hand haha.
I have marked all the favourite stalls for you to try. Haha
@@SingaporeCityWalks Oh man I appreciated you for this haha.
This place has regressed..... sad
Really? Thanks for the update. I will go for a meal there to enjoy the laid back atmosphere.
One miserable Indian stall and there isn't any western or Japanese food. It doesn't covered the whole range of food eateries throughout the hawker centre.
Thank you for your observation and comment. There are many western expats living in Tiong Bahru for the old world charm. There are many western eating places for them at the shophouses. The hawker centre survived the passage of time and serves the people well. It will be good if they have more variety of food.
