In each of the last few seasons, a number of KHL stars have taken their talents across the pond and looked to try their luck in the NHL. While each skater's success in North America varies greatly from one player to the next, many of these European stars often return home just as quickly as they arrived. However, for every KHLer that attempts to make it in the NHL, there are tens if not hundreds of other players that never take to the ice overseas, either because they were unable to earn a shot across the pond during their pro careers, or they chose to ply their trade much closer to home instead.
With that in mind, in today's video, join me as I take you through my list of the Top 10 KHL legends who never cracked the NHL!

Obviously there still is a "Russian Factor", not only that but even for Russian players that decided to give the NHL a shot - the NHL is a "much" different league than the KHL... IMO, most players that come to North America to play in the NHL (usually for $$$$) after the age of 25 will find assimilating to the NA game much more difficult than younger players who have the goal of playing in NA.. But like I pointed out there is indeed a "Russian Factor" in which some Russian players really have no desire to come to the NHL for whatever reason - and there are certainly numerous, be it assimilation, language, nationalism, family & friends, money, difference in play and style etc - so yea there are plenty of reasons to not want to play in NA if you're not from NA..

Every single hockey fan should be made aware of this channel. It is a treasure trove of obscure information.

How about NHL players, who never made it in Europe due to age, injuries or other reasons. One player who comes to my mind is Jiri Tlusty.

"never cracked the nhl" makes it sound like you think they weren't good enough when really, they either just didn't want to come over or never found the one team that respected that they needed the right people around them to adjust.

Man, look at that list of All-Time KHL leading scorers, lol.... EEEh, and they say the KHL is the 2nd best league in the world and Nigel Dawes, Brandon Bochenski, Matt Ellison and Kevin Dallman are 4 of the top 10?... I mean it looks like Bochenski is 2nd all-time in PPG in the KHL.. So yeah, I don't believe the KHL is the 2nd best league in the world - look the KHL is a lot closer to the AHL than it is to the NHL..
As a Hawks fan I find it interesting that two of those guys - Brandon Bochenski and Matt Ellison once played for the Hawks and were traded for players that went on to play significant roles for the Hawks during their "dynasty"... Bochenski was traded for Kris Versteeg and then Matt Ellison (with Eric Meloche) was traded for Patrick Sharp..
I remember that season when Bochenski came to the Hawks, he could score goals and the Hawks traded him for Versteeg and Bochenski was scoring goals like Wayne Gretzky when he arrived in Boston and the Boston fans believed they found their next Cam Neely and they really enjoyed the thought they bent the Hawks over the table on that trade, lol.. Not to be I suppose, lol...
I mean Bochenski wasn't a "terrible" player - the guy just couldn't skate if his life depended on it, he was good in front of the net and had the ability to bang home the junk.. He also had a pretty wicked shot - however there was absolutely no way whatsoever that Bochenski would have made it in this "new NHL" (post 2004-05) just because his skating was so damn terrible, lol.. But hey, you have to leave your legacy somewhere and Bochenski seems to have left one in the KHL..
