Hes sort of like the Roy Jones jr or Pernell Whitaker of Goalies in that sense, dont get me wrong even someone whose literally born more genetically/ etc gifted then others like a Floyd mayweather jr- whose father was a top 5-10 contender in ray leonard and Hagler's era, and whose uncle Roger was a legit 2 division champ themselves, and his other uncle a lesser but still respectable lower /mid level contender, or like Roy Jones jr who in huis prime literally did things in the ring you'll never see before or since or even ever again for the next 100+ years I mean Jones jr probably has the most insanely ridiculously amazing Highlight reel maybe ever, and Pernell Whitaker one of the only Boxers/greats ver who could basically evade and duck and deflect/parry not get hit with a single shot even if a good opponent is inches away from him throwing a 50 punch combo! just natural God given talent/ability- in addition to hard work and training of course. So literally its in there dna/genes/ or like a Michael Jordan, or etc still work there asses off and Trained very very hard and out in the work for damn sure, just like Hasick himself absolutely did! but on top of all of that hard work your right in addition to that work ethic/training etc, he also had some things that simply cannot truly be taught at the end of the day like Freakish/ unorthodox athleticism/abilities/ and etc absolutely!.

I was born in 1976. Starting playing goalie on the ice at age 4 in western NY. Being a sabers fan was pretty tough since we never won a cup and the french connection was a bit before any time that i can remember. I idolized Tom Barasso, Darren Pupa, Clint Malarchuk then our beloved Dominator. Getting his autograph on the full size puc that the Buffalo News put on the back of their paper was the highlite of my teenage years.
Watching Dominator make the most unbelievable saves night after night while listening to Rick Gennerate call the game on WGR radio 55 was a family tradition.
My fondest memories were when we played New Jersey. Dominator versus Martin Brodeur was unreal every time. I recall a game that went scoreless for something like 3 overtimes?
Winning the Vezina trophy 6 times makes Domino Hasek the best goalie of all time. Any Chicago, Buffalo or Detroit fan will instantky agree. Hated seeing such a humble and talented player leave Buffalo but cried tears of joy seeing him finally hoiste the cup over his head with Detroit, twice.
For any hockey fans that never got to see Hasek play, UA-cam him. He was so much more than this video. He made these crazy saves every single night.

He almost reminds me of a soccer goalie who tends to attack against the striker in one-on-ones instead of waiting him out. And nowadays the goalkeepers may not be lying down as much as Hasek did. They stand on their knees while Dominator could swim around and still manage to protect the net. That is a much more chaotic and entertaining style to watch, rather than a tall goalie with even larger protection as they have now.

    • @patrikmachac3935

They started giving up tripping calls to goaltenders for making that diving move that Hasek pulled. It is a good idea for safety, but man was it amazing to watch Dom just bolt out of the net while the breakaway player had their head down.
And to those who say he'd get lit up in this day and age, look at that man's eyes. Look at his head. He's watching EVERYTHING. The man could make these crazy saves because he KNEW where people were going to shoot. He was a master of predicting where a shot would end up. That's why he was so good. That's why he'd ALWAYS be good. It is the same thing as saying Gretzky would get outskated by everyone. You can't judge people for being slower or saying that they'd suck in the modern hockey. You have no idea how well they would adapt. How much better they would be with modern equipment and training gear. Just remember that these legends did all of this crazy, insane high skilled play without the much higher tech equipment we have nowadays.

scoring on Hasek wasn't easy and never will be...
We might have goalies with better technique, but no goalie throws the body and twists the spine like this, he never give up the goal easily... everybody knew that taking out of the blocker and shooting high was no guarantee.
He would raise the leg, lie on his stomach or back... find a way to stop.

Had he began his career in 1984, the big 4 would be big 5. I cringe when people say Crosby/Ovechkin should be #5...they NEVER dominated the league in a sense that Hasek did...like not even close lol. I’m not saying they are “bad”, but in terms of statistical dominance, Hasek is arguably better than Lemieux in terms of peak/prime.
Hasek has an Gretzky/Orr equivalent peak/prime for his position, and had a professional career longevity of Gordie Howe. He should be in the conversation for not only the #5 greatest player, but also #2-#4 player of all time, right along with Howe, Orr, Lemieux (not Gretzky, as he had a good longevity along with insane peak/prime).
