Liked your explanation of the tactic of dilution of capital, summed up ‘Viking Raid’ in one sentence. Hard to explain a sector like shipping in a 16 min video, without getting bogged down in technicals. Great video, well done Sven
Hi Sven. There used to be a concept of 'best speed' for ships, where the vessel was built to match the length of the standing bow wave it created at a particular speed. A ship moving at other speeds is simply less efficient. This could have implications regarding replacement vessels, or the impact of existing vessels moving slower. This was a very interesting video. Thankyou.
Shipping stocks squarely falls in an area I don't understand. Because of this, I'll stay clear of the sector. Thanks for the video. Great to hear your take.
Another great analysis! Keeping in mind new very high freight prices, high cost of steel and therefore much less Vessels getting scrapped. Demand on dry bulk, Oil LNG containers are sky rocking here in 2021 i would love to hear your opinion on shipping investning in current situation, or at least Maersk? As i have used your tool and find very attractive value for next years (eventhough maersk is at approx. 2300 EUR/share?) Will be very much appreciated! If not, i still love your channel and Think you deserve even more credit! Thank you in advance Sven
Glad you finally got around to the sector and to see you are sharing some of my general thoughts. Nevertheless you identified a risk I didn't see myself(dilution/buy out at the bottom of the cycle.taking away your upside), so thanks for that Can't wait to see if you find any real bargains or if the majority is right and this sector should be avoided altogether
Sven, what do you think about revisiting this topic? Shipping bubble is bursting/about to burst, are, there could be some opportunities now, but high risks i think - for example, ZIM caught my eye with most of its numbers, and huge dividend (not stable) but still extremely attractive. Best regards.
I am watching this video in 2022 because of ZIM Integrated Shipping. Have you seen the current price of this company? Looks insanely undervalued. It would be a nice company for a video from a Value Investor point of view.

Imagine if you went short with margin... you could of made multiples but now is the time to go long 5 to 10 yrs investment you will make back your money and more
Due to the Corona virus Maersk was the only one who was still offering shipping containers from Europe to Asia but at jacked prices. So at that period of time, being the only provider of such service means they are a big company who will do business in the future. Since the world economy slowed down so much the prices of shipping sky rocketed because there couldn't be any more demand which put a lot of pressure on companies - if profit margins are low and shipping costs go up they start to lose money. On top of that Maersk took advantage of the situation very dirty in my opinion they still charged for stalement of containers in port and did not postpone this period. But people at that time could not enter the port in China for example during the restriction of movement.
I have been wondering about the shipping sector, but haven't done much research yet. Thanks for the video, I think it convinced me to stay out for now haha. Maybe we should look at stocks that will most likely win, whatever happens to the individual shipping companies, like (air) ports, ship builders, fuel companies, etc., maybe we can find good risk/reward there!
Great video. Such a rough business with a lot of struggling companies. I find it hard to visualize Maersk going out of business or shrinking too much (although certainly possible), so it has been on my radar for a while. If it drops quite a bit more next year I may consider a position.

You might want to add Hunter to your shipping-list. At the same time Frontline has said that they are looking into IMO2020-ships so Hunter might be a target for acquisition by Frontline. However, if the worlds go into a recession, or there turns out to be over-supply of IMO2020-tankers, then it might turn out to be a bad investment.
