    I just picked up a 2023 High Altitude for $21,000 with 18k miles. Couldn't pass up the deal. Now I can put in lockers, lift and tires without breaking the bank.

    $60k is a really tough sell for what you get. Especially considering there’s not much that separates this from an optioned up $45k ‘sport’ trim other than some leather and fancy wheels. Can get better equipped 1/2 tons for $60k.

    Having just gotten a 60,800 MSRP Freedom Edition for 42 and change, this one caught my attention. One thing you NEVER mention on these and Ram 1500's are the "full time four wheel drive" features. This particular one has both the Selec Trac full time four wheel drive and the limited slip differential. Those are required and are on mine but they seldom are included on lot darlings so kudos to this dealer.
    So, I'm really writing about the full time four wheel drive feature and secondarily the limited slip differential. Very few know about these but for the regular buyer who really doesn't know squat about four wheel drive, just wants it, they can be a critical part of a purchase. All four wheel drive systems are not created equal. The most obvious distinction are the locking differentials on both axles on a Rubicon. But that is just one aspect.
    I learned this the hard way going back to my 2013 Ram 1500. It had the basic four wheel drive like the vast majority of JT's on the lots. Full time four wheel drive (Selec Trac/Rock Trac/Auto full time four wheel drive on Rams can make life a whole lot easier for any driver living in a place like Utah or up here in Montana. If you live around the southern edges of the country, you don't need them, but everyone else in the middle and high parts. Yes you do.
    Driving in snow like in this video with a "regular" part time four wheel drive should be done carefully. When on clear pavement you should be in two wheel drive. When you hit a slick slushy quarter mile, you should hit your four wheel drive or you could end up off the side of the road, but if you leave the 4WD on on dry pavement, you will start binding your drive train, first feeling it on turns then maybe breaking something if you leave it on. LImited slip differentials help, but are "limited" mostly to trying to start on snow/ice/dirt and inclines... My second 1500 a 2015 had LSD and it make getting away from the community mail boxes much easier than with the "regular" 4WD. You could feel the traction shift from side to side and gram vs having to hit the 4WD.
    Then, I bought a 2021 Ram 1500 with their "auto" full time four wheel drive and I was enamored. No more clicking the 4WD buttons, it sensed slippage and automatically clicked into four wheel drive but did NOT cause binding. In fact you could leave it on without worrying about it but at a slight cost in MPG's. So, as I finally moved to getting a Gladiator once the prices broke on them, the Selec Track (Rock Trac on Rubicons) full time four wheel drive was a must along with limited slip since I wasn't getting a Rubicon or Mojave. Why not.
    Most people who buy these things really do NOT understand four wheel drive...they just want it... Most High Altitude buyers don't care, but should and that is why I was glad to see it in this unit. Oh, you cannot even get the full time four wheel drive on the Stellantis build pages either for Rams or Jeeps. You have to make sure your dealer clicks that button as they do the formal order or you won't get it. Yes, it costs like 800 bucks, but not going into a ditch or worse in the winter is worth it. Don't let ignorance kill you thinking you go four wheel drive so nothing can hurt me. The devil is in the details of 4WD. KNOW the distinctions...

    really love how this package looks..honestly the best looking gladiator from the outside, but 60,000. For that kinda money you should have power seats, power rear slide window and other bits. I mean i got a RAM 1500 Laramie for almost that same money and its was better fitted on the inside. probably best looking midsize truck right now but overpriced

      Idk can a power rear window be a workable with you being able to remove the rear shell

    Man I love how everything is color matched. That is really cool. Other than bumpers. I agree with you. The price is high. But if you don't care about the diff-locks, put bigger wheels on, lift it and you pretty much have a rubicon. Very cool truck.

    Yeah they're worth it. With their advanced safety group + offroad capabilities + you can strip it down.
    These are priced what people are willing to pay.

      uh i paid 56k for a rubicon with 1150 payload and 7200lbs towing, no leather seats and no blindspot... but with the lift and tires i would argue that 60k is overpriced. I paid this price in aug 2022. consider that the rubicon has like 4500 bucks in better suspension and tires so it isnt a downgrade. the high altitude does not have those things. they have some other "safety" upgrades like adaptive cruise control - so it's a trade off. 60k for what you get for HA / Rub - at least to me - is not equal. Less pay load in HA, Less off road in HA - vs - higher payload, higher quality under the hood/ suspension/ higher offroad capability. easy choice for me at -4k$

    Slap a set of bf goodwrench ko2 tires and ill bet you would still be able to take it light off roading.

    Having this same version I would say what you might lose off roading with the 20’s and Bridgestone setup is what makes this one ride different as a daily driver.

  • @BBlackmen
    @BBlackmen 2 роки тому +6

    I know it's a Jeep Gladiator but it is the luxury version that being said there should be more luxury touches like you know where the massaging seats why is there still a puny 8.4 inch display in a $60,000 vehicle that makes no sense they have bigger screens to put in there the rest of the Interior is fine the leather is great and what have you but they could do better with that and why are they still just putting out under 300 horsepower on a vehicle of this size and this magnitude plus a vehicle this important should have more power
