Von Karajan war der grösste.Dirigent und Regisseur seiner Zeit -Was er auch tat, es war optimale höchste musikalische Vollendung. Allein seine CD-Gesamt-Aufnahmen von Anton Bruckner mit Deutsche Grammophon. - Ein Genius musici Austriae .

I'm just reading his Biography "A Life In Music" by Richard Osbourne; I've wanted to read that now for at least 10 years. Herbert Ritter von Karajan is in the same class as Michelangelo, Leonardo deVinci, Rembrandt or Tesla; yet maybe even in a class of his own. To be gifted with such high intellect, such supportive parents and a surrounding, of such atmosphere rich in Music History, in the birthplace of Amadeus Mozart and a culture that despite it's political and societal struggles of the time recognizes that it's identity must be retained in its music, art and literature; young Karajan was providencially given all the opportunity for greatness. As a fellow Austrian, the one thing I just cannot understand is his blindness in recognizing that all this was the orchestrated grace of the God that had inspired a good number of the earlier composers in that part of the world. Such brilliance of mind, the love of languages, music etc. isn't something that one should take for granted; it's a gift that comes from above. Yet in the end he adopts an Eastern Taoist/Buddhist mindset and hopes that he will reincarnate as an eagle where he can fly throughout the familiar landscape of his previous life. His ego was such that he would never attribute his extraordinary gifts to the Grace of God, and was too busy to recognise that all his abilities were derived from a pre-existent source who's makeup was not his own doing.
