I love the backing fabric! And I always enjoy your video. And your two hard on yourself. I think all your quilting is wonderful. And gives my hope for mine.
I havent named my vintage Noltings perhaps baby, as in come on baby-but am having a great time learning new things to try to quilt on it and enjoyed this series of videos once already! Thank you so much for sharing with us
Loving your Videos!! Exactly what I needed , I have a lonestar on my frame I Made! So many Tips thank you!! I wish I would have seen them before I had started it but it helped anyway! also as you were talking about joining the feather border right before I realized that my Feathers were going the Wrong direction along the Bottom I was close to the Middle. Stopped looked at more videos looked in my Books! And made an improvised feather around a swirl!!
The clip that you used on the sides of the fabric with the bungee cord that you attached your clips to... where did you get those?!! I LOVE how it keeps the huge clip out of the way!
I always look out in front of the actual needle. For these curves I’d be looking at the point where I’m aiming. As soon as I stitch that point my eye is on the next one.
Is this actually the very first episode? What was your first episode (date/name) so I might get caught up. Thank you for sharing your expertise. ... (and Brother Dave the Producer) :D
Marcia, I frankly don’t recall what was the first episode 😁 But this one was pretty early on. Pretty sure there’s a little down arrow that lets you choose to sort videos by date👍🏻
I have a few questions. Why don't you use a basting stitch on sides? You did one row of basting after each advance. Would you be able to remove the quilt before you finished the whole quilt? Where did you get the lone star? What do you look for when purchasing unfinished tops?
I did baste the sides, as I did each advance. I knew I didn't need to remove the quilt before it was finished. If that was a necessity, I would baste the whole thing first. I got the lone star at a garage sale for $10! I look for fabric that is still in good shape with no major holes. I do lots of quilts that are poor piecing quality (including this one) with very irregular seams etc. That doesn't bother me - I just do the best I can to quilt it neatly, and launch it into its next life. PS - I gave this one to our nephew and niece. She isn't a quilter but loves them and I thought she was the perfect person to enjoy it.
@@StitchedBySusan I see that you basted the sides but didn't use the large basting stitch on your machine. Is that not secure enough for stitching down the edges of the quilt?
@@sued2433 ahhh! I think ie would secure the edges just fine. However, I pull out the interior basting as I work, so I want to be able to pull and break those basting threads, so I want the exterior basting to be strong enough I can pull against it. Make sense?
Like a meander or stipple? You can quilt anything you think is pretty and you feel comfortable quilting! I personally feel smaller will give you better “texture” than larger. So maybe 1” spacing rather than 4-5”.

what a gorgeous lone star, have one of my own to take out, but these colors are gorgeous! thank you for sharing.!
So many tips and tricks from start to finish. I especially like the custom
quilt videos.
Good to know! I’ll keep sprinkling them in from time to time.
Love the quilt pattern! And the quilt.
Thank you! 😊
I like what you are doing
The clip that you used on the sides of the fabric with the bungee cord that you attached your clips to... where did you get those?!! I LOVE how it keeps the huge clip out of the way!
I use the Red Snapper clips and cord, and I slide a yard stick underneath (across the rails) if it needs a little lifting.

Susan where do you look when you are going around the diamond to get such a nice curve.

Can I do a wandering stitch on a lone star quilt?

Do you use Hobbs 80/20 Cotton & Poly or Cotton & Wool?
In the Lone Star I used 80/20 cotton and poly. Good question! I only use the wool occasionally, so I didn’t think to specify.
