Jin How, I agree with you. I've not handled the MG in particular. But I've handled bigger mixers before. Setting your gain stage to 0db is the part most people forget about.
The Mackie ProFX10v3 would resolve all of your issues here. Mute switches, an insert for your compressor, and 4 USB Inputs, 2 go straight to monitoring and 2 go wherever you want. Some of your complaints are just mis-understandings of the mixer, but the ProFX10v3 is a much better fit for you.
(Edit : I see that I am late and people have already commented this type of info) TLDR: I got this Mixer to send all my audio to livestream, and only my voice to Discord. My Settings: XLR Mic into Channel 1 Line Out from PC is channel 5 and 6 with 1/4mm to 3.5mm TRS Cable (This will control Volume of all sounds for PC) LG Monitor's sound is channel 7 and 8 with 1/4mm to 3.5mm TRS Cable (Set Discord's Volume) Mic Input is connected to FX Send with a 1/4mm jack to 3.5mm aux cord (Send clean Mic audio to Discord. No PC sounds at all) Line In from PC is connected to Stereo Out with 1/4mm to 3.5 TRS Cable. (Sends ALL sounds Computer, Discord, etc... to Livestream) Misc Setting: Stereo Mute Position Up FX On turned off With these settings, the Knobs labled FX will increase or decrease the sound of that channel to discord. I have all mine set to Zero with the exception of the XLR, because you don't want your discord pals to hear your PC. As for hearing Discord, as long as have a physical 3.5mm speaker jack on some other device connected (for me my LG Monitor connected to channel 7 and 8) you can control the Volume by turning the Peak dials at the bottom. If you use the FX Dials, people on Discord will hear themselves. I'll say right now it was a bitch of a time to figure this out. But I actually learned from a video about 3 years ago (Its been taken down long ago) talking about a Mackie Mix 8.
@@ToonamiFaithful I'm still having a bit of trouble setting up (just a complete newbie to the audio game) and would benefit greatly if you made a video!
I got mine this weekend and I had more trouble with it than it was worth. So the problems started same as with Grid21 that the USB Audio was very low this could be fixed tho with increasing the level at the bottom tho to get normal levels but that made it so changing the Monitor/Phones very weird because i can only open it a TINY bit else it would rip my ears with insane loud sounds because the high level on the mic at the bottom knob for levels. So the next problem I ran into which im surprised i havent heard of in videos on UA-cam at all is that when you use USB to play the audio from PC on this Mixer then randomly audio dropsout/glitches/pops really weird and also get a warning in the Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver reporting USB problems. Tried using two different 2.0 USB cables same results and same results no matter the USB ports on my PC. Tried changing both Sample Rate from lowest 44Khz to highest 192Khz and lower Buffer Size to Biggest Buffer Size with all the same issues. I even went as far as reinstall my computer just to clear potencial problems out of the way and still same problems. So what I did later was to use the motherboard green output and connet that to channel 7/8 to get none glitchy audio and that removed the dropout/glitchyness because not using the USB. BUT then i ran into a new problem now i cant have my tracks split anymore like i could if i used only USB for both playback and recording. Because this Mixer has a To Mon / To St so with USB you can listen to your music and talk to mic in two different tracks for example in OBS Studio. But since using channel 7/8 sending my desktop audio to that mixes both mic and game sound into the same track which is really bad for editing videos ect. So in my case I most likely is just gonna return this and go back to my Scarlett 2i2 again together with Voicemeeter A lot of confusing text i bet but if someone knows something i dont know to fix it let me know. Probably send it back next week within the 30 day resend rule.
This mixer is really one of the worst Mixers I have seen and being it's from Yamaha who normally makes good products and mixers, this is a big disappointment for me too. I am almost tempted to call them and explain to them the amount of comments I have gotten and ask them if they could 1 Review my video, and 2. consider making a better mixer for us to use because the only other Mixer out there that does what we all want is the GoXLR, and Rode's Procaster Mixer. But they are also REALLY Expensive too.
What audio interface are you using? Is it this mixer via USB? What is the hardware chain do you have going for your Electro-voice RE320 What compressor etc
This board is what it is. If you dont understand the level higher sound you need then you would not have this board. I use it for myself. But i love it , I will get a 12XU ,mute buttons ugh... but my research is on going .. Good video you cover the up's and downs
Thank you for this. I bought this board for a weekly live show. Our viewers complain about the lack if volume and I've done everything I could think of to try to get it louder. I guess the issue is the USB out is just quiet. I'll experiment with using the line out for output and still using the USB to monitor the videos we play and discuss during the show. Hopefully this will work ok. Thanks for the insight!
That would actually work. For example. When I do my morning show, I use the USB to pump the intro music to my show hosts and me, and then still use the Stereo out into a Line-in on my Motherboard. So you could probably get away with that. If you have more questions, feel free to stop by my Twitch channel.
Hi Grid, great explanatory video ma man :). Unforchanetly I'm having the same problem with low USB audio and recognized your avatar from the LTT forum "Yamaha MG10XU quiet USB audio?". I would try to use the same solution and "plugging my mixer into my Computers Line-In port" but I'm on a laptop and have only a headset(all in one) and I can not make it be a line-in port. I even have mi doughts that it could be?! Do you know if this would still work if I use a USB-Audio adapter or we run into the same issue as USB is used?
Nice video! Is it possible to make a map of how u have it connected? I'm having the same issue of low sound in streams. I'm also using USB. But would like to try the way u said.
I kind if feel like you do. I was planning on using it to record on tracks on my labtop, but decided to still use my old Tascam M-06 which still sounds great to me. I'll use this mixer for my live setup.
2:49 i don't like the idea of purchasing a USB mixer and then using the STEREO OUT and LINE IN on the motherboard. You are using the motherboards DAC which may or may not be good rather than using the definately good DAC on the Yamaha.
@@Grid21 I am really puzzled that you say the USB Interface is super quiet. I think there is definitely a BUG in there. Your way of "fixing" it doen't really fix it at all - you are using a different method altogether.
No one is talking about the cons like this. Stumbled onto this video looking for directions on how to use with podcast and I'm glad I found this video. Thanks bro
Yeah, your welcome!! I am glad I brought up some good points with it! If you want to talk more about audio with me live, you should swing by my Twitch channel when I am live! :D
No, the effects are global and affect all inputs. This is a pretty terrible board for the use case I have it for, but I've found some work arounds that I may make a follow up video too. If you're looking for more inputs for an interface, then it's fine, anything else, live streaming for example, it may not suit the job. Yamaha's implimantation of this board was poor from the start I think. I guess they were betting on the name of the company to sell a lot when in reality they made a pretty terrible mixer board.
I mean, any mixer could be good for anything if you know how to use it. No there is no AUX out, just FX Send out. You could send audio over USB to the mixer, but there would also be a possible loop back in a Digital Audio Work station software. It is usable, it just has some quirks here and there.
Hi there, interesting video! I'm a beginner DJ and looking at the Yamaha MG10XU and A&H ZEDi-8 mixers, for their ability to use the USB audio signal from my iPad or Macbook, and to connect via XLR out to my PA system. Is the USB audio out /soundcard of the MG10XU any good for this purpose? You review the MG10XU from the perspective of a streamer. But aren't the Yamaha AG03 and AG06 mixers designed for that purpose (or am I saying something stupid now)? TIA
I am actually not familiar with those 2 mixers you mentioned. For your purpose it will hopefully work. The soundcard on this mixer is actually quite good for those that aren't trying to do the type of routing I mentioned in this video.
@@Grid21 Thanks for responding. I 've purchased the A&H ZEDi-10FX. A quality product and the USB card and all other features work well. It's not a very compact mixer, but sturdy. A minor detail is that the USB-in channel doesn't have EQ-ing like the analog channels, only volume level. This means that when using the iPad's digital audio signal via USB and you want to adjust the soundcolor, the only option seems to be using the iPad's internal EQ or the EQ of the music-app you're using.
A DJ here, how do use you ipad/mac? do you have a controller? mixer would be a supplement, if you're using a second DJ or switching back and forth between a band and a DJ, but I would look into a good controller, many mainstream controllers have balanced XLR out.
@@aleksf9149 I have an iPad and a Windows laptop. It depends on the software or app how you can control these. In many occasions I simply use Spotify. On my laptop I have Rekordbox software, which I can control with my Pioneer DDJ400. On my iPad I also have Algoriddim's Djay app. Djay can be controlled directly on the iPad, and/or also with the DDJ400. Though I have to admit that I experienced instability issues (suddenly no sound) in the combination of the DDJ400 and iOS Djay. I often use the mixer for flexibility (using several sounddevices/sources like iPad and laptop, and/or a 2nd DJ), for the XLR out, for a good microphone channel and to have the option of an extra output for a second PA zone.

A little late for a comment, but to complain about a cheap product for not having the functions of the more expensive boards is not right. If you buy a the cheapest car model, you don’t complain about it not having ac, cruise control etc, because you choose not to pay for it, right? A somewhat unfair angle for a review according to me.
Good honest video. I had the same experience using the mixer as my mic.. very low volume. I ended up using FX send and my main mic and assigned USB soundcard mic input as my mic instead because I couldn't live with the low volume. I also thought it needed sub channels. No, I read the manual many times over, and I understand how it works. But Yamaha has a real issue with the output volume of the USB, and a number of other failures.
That part I can agree. Every microphone has its impedance, it defines how "hot" it is signal wise.
Good call. Was wondering what you might have to say about this!
(Edit : I see that I am late and people have already commented this type of info)
TLDR: I got this Mixer to send all my audio to livestream, and only my voice to Discord.
My Settings:
XLR Mic into Channel 1
Line Out from PC is channel 5 and 6 with 1/4mm to 3.5mm TRS Cable (This will control Volume of all sounds for PC)
LG Monitor's sound is channel 7 and 8 with 1/4mm to 3.5mm TRS Cable (Set Discord's Volume)
Mic Input is connected to FX Send with a 1/4mm jack to 3.5mm aux cord (Send clean Mic audio to Discord. No PC sounds at all)
Line In from PC is connected to Stereo Out with 1/4mm to 3.5 TRS Cable. (Sends ALL sounds Computer, Discord, etc... to Livestream)
Misc Setting:
Stereo Mute Position Up
FX On turned off
With these settings, the Knobs labled FX will increase or decrease the sound of that channel to discord.
I think I love you. I just got one tonight and was very confused on some of this stuff. This clears it right up!

The low volume struggle is real and so frustrating. Spent so many hours trying to figure out how to get a decent output through USB.
So in my case I most likely is just gonna return this and go back to my Scarlett 2i2 again together with Voicemeeter
A lot of confusing text i bet but if someone knows something i dont know to fix it let me know.
What is the hardware chain do you have going for your Electro-voice RE320
What compressor etc
This board is what it is. If you dont understand the level higher sound you need then you would not have this board. I use it for myself. But i love it , I will get a 12XU ,mute buttons ugh... but my research is on going .. Good video you cover the up's and downs
Thanks! I appreciate it! Yeah I still use it too, I just want something that works better with what I want done on stream.
Best call content I’ve seen on this board. This will help me understand how to use mine.
Great! Glad it was helpful to you!
My MG10XU gets too hot while using. Is it normal?
Correct me if I’m wrong because I most likely am, but wouldn’t the “Stereo Mute” button accomplish the same thing as a mute button?
No it does not. That serves a different function.
Hi, which port are you using for dual PC set up to send microphone to gaming PC if you connect the USB port to streaming PC? Please help.
I live this tutorial.....I've been struggling using it for Livestream.... decent for live, but bad sound quality and latent issues
Yeah the sound quality isn't bad as I did find a work-around for it. But it was almost the perfect mixer.
Thanks sir. I am planning to buy one for my live streams.
I realize that, but the results I have gotten have seemed ok, though there are some other tests I need to run regarding a different issue.
Thanks bro

@@Grid21 i am looking for my home studio setup to use it record my cover songs..
Can you have two or three different instruments or mics with different effect for each one?
No, the effects are global and affect all inputs. This is a pretty terrible board for the use case I have it for, but I've found some work arounds that I may make a follow up video too. If you're looking for more inputs for an interface, then it's fine, anything else, live streaming for example, it may not suit the job. Yamaha's implimantation of this board was poor from the start I think. I guess they were betting on the name of the company to sell a lot when in reality they made a pretty terrible mixer board.
Wow! The reviews are excellent, over 1000, 4.8 stars… ok thanks
Sure. If it suits your specific needs then great! Everyone uses things differently and that's ok!
i like this idea being that i have usb interfaces i decided ill run this mixer into the line in of the interface
You can do that too! Hopefully that works for you.
Is it good for recording flute ..?
u r saying that there is no aux out..?
So how can someone
Play karaoke for the backing track ?
I mean, any mixer could be good for anything if you know how to use it. No there is no AUX out, just FX Send out. You could send audio over USB to the mixer, but there would also be a possible loop back in a Digital Audio Work station software. It is usable, it just has some quirks here and there.
Hey bro, what would you recommend mixer for vocalist specifically for mobile app streaming used.
I am not really sure. I don't do much mobile streaming.
@@Grid21
Thanks for responding.
Did you have any hum with your Yamaha? I got one but just plugging in my headset, and just constant hums.
Hum can be a few things. From the outlet it's plugged into, to just having to much gain. I can't say for sure for you, but maybe contact Yamaha or a local Guitar Center and ask them about it!

Great vid Bro. I only recently picked up this board and I never knew of some of the big omissions till you pointed them out. Very informative vid. I wish this vid existed before I actually bought the board. So, I'm making do with it in spite of the downfalls. Big Thumbs Up for the vid.
Your welcome! Yeah I wish I knew it's downfalls enough to know it wasn't going to work for me right off, but it's still a solid board for what it's worth!
So do you use the USB line as the mix input? And if not do the effects still send to how you have the pc hooked in
Yes it can be used at an input one the right hand side of the board 3 column the button on top has to be press down to monitor audio from the PC and the Fx and ran through the very column if you don't want to use the usb in you can use the 4th column from the right as an input wit an y aux cable running from the PC in to the channel the can run the Fx that way also hope this was informative the question was a little confusing
@@onethree2807 it is basicly I was asking about the USB line because thats the only one ive found where the effcts will go to pc. It was the Soundcraft Signature 12 MTK
Is there a way to adjust in game chat on the board?(not in discord, but in game lobbys)
Unless your routing the audio from the PC to the mixer, your better option would be to adjust it in the actual game.
Finally, a review on the yamaha mixer that answers the questions.
Can you use the mixer for a mix minus? So that the person on the other end of skype doens't hear themselves echo?
You can't either way it will feedback into the input of your PC. This mixer is just, I don't know what to make of it.
@@Grid21 this is terrible.
Inspectah, were you able to find a mixer that doesn’t feedback? I need that and to compress inbound audio to level out the quiet and loud talkers
Good job being honest dude and being nice about it in how you explained it.
Thank you! I wish Yamaha could see this video and maybe consider making a mixer for streamers by streamers themselves.
@@Grid21 I picked up Behringer X2222USB for under $300 today and it has the Aux outs I want to be creative, and compared to another Behringer I had this one seems to have near complete separation when I pan hard right on one channel and hard left on another. No, I read the manual many times over, and I understand how it works. But Yamaha has a real issue with the output volume of the USB, and a number of other failures.
That part I can agree. Every microphone has its impedance, it defines how "hot" it is signal wise. Some mics need more gain to reach their optimum performance levels and truthfully, I've not tried OBS. So I wouldn't be able to comment on the buffering it could have for the original signal.
