  • In this video I show how I prep my panels for final paint. I am not an expert but I share some knowledge I have gained over the years. In this video we show blocking and applying both Epoxy and 2K Urethane Primer. I use products from Nason, Metal Loc, PPG, and Omni. We also apply some glazing putty on a few spots to make sure the surface is flat. If you have any questions please contact us anytime at jasonandjoniebuilds@gmail.com

    I don’t think people realize the amount of prep that goes into a paint job. Great video

    Another great video in the books. Love the detail don't worry about the length.

    Lots of details….I love it. I have never seen the dry guide used before. I think that will keep me more honest with my sanding. I have a tendency to convince myself that “its good enough”. Ladonya would be pretty upset if I used her luffa in the garage. Don’t worry about long videos….this was a awesome. I like the use of the lift to hang the doors.

      Thanks David! I know it was a lot to watch. Lol The lift worked out ok but I had the chains a little short. I should have had them longer. Oh well closer every day. I hope yall are doing well.

    Perfect timing. I'm getting ready to prime a 1969 Bronco tub tomorrow. I have the tub inside and under body sanded, worked, and ready for primer. All other body panels have the last stage of primer inside and out and ready to wet sand before color. I'm using Evercoat Super build 4:1 and Evercoat finish sand 4:1. Hoping to start applying Boxwood Green this weekend. A lot of work and since I'm painting the backside of panels too, I'm giving myself a whole week of painting, assembling, cutting and buffing. I'm hoping to have the body sitting on the chassis next week. I use "Icing" instead of glazing putty. It spreads like cake icing and sands very easy. Great video. I clicked on it hoping to learn something. Looks like we are on the same page so I must be doing something right.

      Jim thanks for watching and good luck on your Bronco. I love the boxwood green color too. Take care.

    You are doing GREAT! Thank you so much for showing the struggles of body and paint. It takes a lot of skilled labor to paint a car properly and people that have not done it tend to look for a “deal” when shopping for a shop to paint their project for them. With body and paint labor you truly “get what you paid for”. If you get a great deal usually means the shop did it as quickly as possible and cut corners. They can’t work for free. Everyone needs to make a living and take care of their families. Granted they are much faster than us diy guys because they do it every day. And when we novices paint ourselves, just know that you cannot be in a rush. It truly is a labor of love.

      Well said Matt. I agree 100%. The old saying about good, fast and cheap. You can only have 2 of the 3.

    Great video thank you for posting it, I use to work in a ship yard doing painting on big fishing boats and we had to mix the primer in the same way ( 4-1 ratio) and over lap the spray pattern by 50% in the same way

    Thanks Jason, exactly what I was looking for!
    What type of board did you mix your glaze on?

    • @JasonJonieBuilds
      @JasonJonieBuilds  2 роки тому +3

      I use a mixing board I got from my local paint store. It has multiple sheets on it so you are always mixing on a clean surface. It cost between 10 and 20 bucks. Well worth it too.

      Use a pack of paper plates, the hole stack. Their way cheaper and work great.

      @@davidrule1335 I never thought of using them for that. Thanks

      @@JasonJonieBuilds No problem. I'm turning my body shop into a little MACO. Yesterday I painted a 1998 Chevy truck, white start to finish (that's untapped too) in 8 hrs. I charged $1,000 had $200 in it so I made $100 per. hr. Looks like crap, but from 20 foot away it's white and shinny. customer is happy. I'm laughing all the way to the bank. This restoration work you are doing needs to be by the hr. $50.oo an hr.

    Maybe a dumb question, but why don't you spray the primer in the makeshift booth? Does it not matter?

    • @JasonJonieBuilds
      @JasonJonieBuilds  2 роки тому

      Not a dumb question. The high build primer leaves a lot of residue and it leaves a very dusty environment. I just would rather prime out of the booth. Thanks
