I blew the gearbox up in my old RS1600i. I wanted to keep the twin coils so chose to get the box rebuilt. I took it to Hardy engineering in leatherhead and I cannot recommend them highly enough. The box was like new. Sadly had to sell the RS when my kids came along. Always loved the series 1 RS turbo 👍
Is dump valve vacuum or electronic controlled ? Also have u got Fifth cold start injector disconnected in summer use ?? Some tips from owning one for 10years ❤😢
Raj firstly I commend you for setting up this brilliant channel. The boj up jobs done on the Rs Turbo came as no surprise to me. You should report them to the car collector you bought it from if he knows what cowboy mechanics did them, as he may still be using their services. They need to be exposed & shamed for ruining an Rs turbo's mechanicals. Even after paying around £30K you have now ended up with a huge garage bill to put it all right! Iv given up looking for an Rs turbo as i think they are hugely overpriced & overated in relation to how well they drive and perform (my other car is a Lotus elise S1).The looks and memories of an Rs turbo are awesome but the huge price one pays for 1980's Ford mechanicals is not really justified in my latest opinion. Classics need to be driven once in a while rather than just sitting around and the mechanicals and handling must perform well. You can even spend abit more and get a Ferrari Mondial Cabriolet! That's how crazy the prices on the Rs turbo S1 are nowadays and its hard to find an original one which has not been messed around with. As i said for now iv given up looking for an Rs turbo S1 due to various negative experiences I encountered on the journey & i ended up buying a mint condition low mileage MK3 Escort XR3i Cabriolet for £15K from 'Turn Two Classics' in Northampton for my 50th birthday. The mechanicals have all been sorted & it was part of a private collection. It drives great! & il have to show you it one day. Keep up the great work!... Respect! , Jas

Great video. Think the Renault 5 vs S1 RS is a bit harsh. One designed in the late 70s and other mid 80s.
Looking forward to the 80's hot hatch episode, my bet is on the Ford being the best although the R5 was hard to beat on a country road.
