That statement also applies to other things. I worked in botany for a while, and sometimes someone would ask me to identify a plant for them (without showing me the plant). So I would have to ask them something like "What do the leaves look like?" At least a few times, the answer would be "Green." Needless to say, that alone would not help me identify identify a plant. 😂😂😅

Can we have one night a week here where it's all poetry? America needs more poetry. A good antidote to the headlines.
Such a night, such a regular date with beauty, might change the world.

How the Word is Passed is an awesome book, I have it in audio. I learned a LOT, plus had to accept my family stories were mostly fiction and the mythology needed to be ascended by the other people involved at the time. Yes, buy this book. *edit added - That poem is the human experience. I'll be adding the poetry book to my real book collection. Thank you, Clint.

My grade 5 teacher once gave me really heartfelt feedback that have always been fallback words of encouragement whenever I feel down and 28 years later we now work side by side teaching at the same school. Being able to share the impact his words still have was such a special moment for me. Maybe for him too, I hope. And my own teaching is fundamentally guided by this knowledge and experience.

Having fallen in love under an oak tree whose branches bend like sorrow, in New Orleans, the tears that spring after the second line about a flood submerging a quiet 300-year-old neighborhood, are pouring like a Delta summer rain. Amazing what Smith can do with such simple imagery. That boy in '86? My pole star to this day.

I think to be a really good poet you have to love words and the sound of them together. Poetry is a lot like a jigsaw puzzle my family used to have in the 70's. The image was a Jackson Pollack painting. I think it was at least 500 pieces. Almost impossible to put together. But placing all the words together in a poem to convey your thoughts is a lot like that puzzle. Complex. Not easy to understand even when all together.

If you've never actually watched a caterpillar eating, it's glorious, they eat tiny but visible bites, it's the most adorable thing that isn't having butterflies land on your finger on their own. Also fun is hassling a swallow-tail caterpillar, they are very brightly stripped fellows, and when you agitate them they rear up and stick out a pair of orange 'antlers' that are covered in nasty tasting chemicals they make from their diet of carrot relatives, it's so alpha to just rear up and taste bad in people's face!

Really don’t care if Aaron or anyone made mistakes. I don’t think they were mistakes and even if they were, I don’t care. I truly don’t give a fuck. I just read and think about random things, mostly events and shows and books and how to say things in the coolest way possible. If anybody yells at me, I brush it off, and if anybody gets physical when I don’t want them to, I punch them back really hard and if I can’t, I just go back to reading.
