Indeed. If I recall correctly, Peter left around the same time that BBC One transferred to its new Network Playout area, which at the time of this recording, would only have been a matter of weeks away (can't remember the precise 'go live' date).
Thanks for the information guys. He had one of the best voices BBC Television had for announcing and one of the mainstayers of BBC Continuity announcing lasting 28 years from 1967 to 1995.
Ah, thanks for confirming the date treffynnon19! July could indeed have been Peter's last TV shift. I could only recall that he departed at roughly the same time as the move to the new Network Control areas. I'm sure many of those guys didn't appreciate the removal of the technical side of their role. But I believe there were certain figures in management who deemed the voices of continuity veterans such as Peter, slightly too posh and not in keeping with the image they wanted for the channel. I recall that David Miles departed pretty soon after the move. Such a shame. These were voiceovers/continuity announcers with class. Such great voices. Such a far cry from the instantly forgettable and bland "voices" of most of today's brigade. No harm to today's lot but they're National League in comparison to the Premier League Peter Brook, Martin King, David Allen et al.
Roger Maude also left in 1995 as well. He lasted for 29 years. Yes David Miles left on 12th June 1995 as that Closedown is on UA-cam. Of the old school announcers only Andy Cartledge (longest serving announcer lasting 32 years) Malcolm Eynon and the Fabulous Peter Brook lasted into the 21st century as announcers from the RP era. TV room your definitely right the posh voices of the 60s 70s and 80s are far better than today's announcers. Peter Bolgar as far as I know is still alive but retired.
The special day must've been the 50th anniversary VE Day commemorations.
Peter Bolgar on Closedown duty. Think he left BBC 1 later on that year.
