@@sblinder1978 Brandon IS NOT The Killers, it's his during his solo album times, he covered, or actually made acoustic version of few The Killers and his solo career tracks.
I love his screaming "she said she loved me" and "i just can't take this" in the original, its one of the things that make it a favorite- its so raw and desperate sounding, but now i love how he made these lines the softer parts in this version yet sounds even more guilty! Such a great song. I love his lyrics and his voice, a truly gifted man right here.
The original sounds like a few days after the fact, filled with anguished despair and fear of being caught. This acoustic version sounds like years later, when he's old, still guilty, unable to feel normal again.
I don't think I've ever heard a vocalist who's vocals have just progressed so brilliantly. His voice is immensely better since Hot Fuss (even though his vocals on that album are good and suit the rawer, younger edge) but listening to Flamingo, Battle Born and Desired Effect his voice is just incredible.
The way the tone slightly changes on “she couldn’t scram while I held her close” just cemented the murder mood for me. Brilliant just brilliant use of vocals
This is the track that hooked me into The Killers. Such an iconic, beautiful classic. One of those few moments in your music life that make you ask, "Who the frick are these?! when you first hear it. Proper 80s synth- rock retro perfection! Love you guys
Probably the best ever version of any song ever performed. The sound engineering and mixing/planning is perfect. Wow. I love the western twang in the backup guitar.
jana000005 The song is actually about a guy who gets wasted and murders his girlfriend. Look up The Killers murder trilogy if you wanna check it out. It's a story that takes place over three songs.
It's such a good song, yet haunting. I just realized a few things from the lyrics. He's being interview by police and is upset. But the first verse says it all. They were walking, I think she broke up with him. They fought per the lyrics. Then he held her so tight "she couldn't scream". Meaning he suffocated her. He loved her, yet is pondering how he did what he did and is asking what he can do or say to make it right. It's a very conflicting and emotional song. Great story telling.
The story it’s based off of is The Preppy Murder which is an actual murder where this guy Robert something left with his friend Jenny after his ex told him to basically screw someone else and in his trial he gave many excuses but in the end he basically just said “Why would I kill her? She was a friend of mine” It’s really interesting you should check it out.
If Brandon was a Chef, he'd have so many Michelin Stars. The way the background vocals mixed with the melody... spooky. Everything just works, bravo! 👏
We took a walk that night, but it wasn't the same We had a fight on the promenade out in the rain She said she loved me, but she had somewhere to go She couldn't scream while I held her close I promised not, to let her go Tell me what you want to know Oh come on, oh come on, oh come on There ain't no motive for this crime Jenny was a friend of mine So come on, oh come on, oh come on I know my rights, I've been here all day and it's time For me to go, so let me know if it's alright I just can't take this, I swear I told you the truth She couldn't scream while I held her close I promised not, to let her go Tell me what you want to know Oh come on, oh come on, oh come on And then you whisper in my ear I know what you're doing here So come on, oh come on, oh come on There ain't no motive for this crime Jenny was a friend of mine Oh come on, oh come on, oh come on

Besides these songs I've been skipping sound pretty good... Maybe I should start listening to the album front to back... " So I let that opening track play, and the whole album, and ever since that's how I listen to any good album. All the way through 🙂 The year was 2004. The album was Hot Fuss. The follow up album "Sam's Town" was the first album I ever listened through from beginning to end and thought myself what an amazingly well arranged album. I still believe it is one of the most underrated albums of the 2000s
When I was young... I was on a cruise ship 2008 and listened to this song while I was somewhere in the south Chinese sea on the way to Singapore. Jenny was with me. thank you killers
I remember driving out to a hospital appointment into Chailey Sussex with my daughter 15 years ago, like it was yesterday, incredible how music does this memory lane ❤
Well, I like this version better than original. Always perceived this song in the metaphorical way, like it's not about actual murdering, for me it's about guy who ended up with his relationships and now it feels like a great sorrow for him. Thus, the lyrics of the song look like a conversation with his own subconscious
They did such amazing job of putting this together, they’re syncing so well. Plus the dark subject matter of the storytelling. Beautiful., hahhha! And it’s nice seeing Rick taking it easy for a change.
I love when anyone covers The Killers. Especially The Killers.
The Killers should do a cover album of Killers' songs.

Truly beautiful I must admit
The original sounds like a few days after the fact, filled with anguished despair and fear of being caught. This acoustic version sounds like years later, when he's old, still guilty, unable to feel normal again.
Wow, this arrangement actually suits the style of the song so well. Almost pushes it into murder ballad territory.
wasn't it always though. haha.
SirSamTheThird what’s murder ballad?
A song about murder. This song and two others are about a girl, Jenny getting murdered. In this the singer is being interrogated for the crime
The Murder trilogy. Leave the Bourbon on the shelf, Midnight Show, Jenny was a Friend of Mine.
totally agree! murder was the vibe i got from this is a dark twist of love

13dirty666 his solo stuff is criminally underrated. Flamingo was pretty good, but The Desired Effect is an absolute belter of a record.
you can say that again.
His voice really is magnificent live now
Mike patton
But I understand what you mean...
So very true. Its like he went and got singing lessons.

It’s contagious
It surely isn't greater than 360 times.
Brandon is only getting sexier. What a man
Juliette Seeder THE man
he still is but i prefer hot fuss era brandon
This is a great "reworking" of a classic Killers song. It almost sounds like The Cure.
+Rastko Ruzic More of like a smiths sound imo, especially with the almost identical bass to "Barbarism begins at home"
Its totally Smiths. Inspired by Girlfriend in a Coma, and pulling fancy sounding phrases like "On the promenade" like in Everyday is Like Sunday.
Rastko Ruzic yeah he sounds like Robert Smith!
this is nowhere as great as The Cure by Lady Gaga, don't disrespect

Ross Fregia swathe last night, new guitarists are sweet
True... what's happened with the others?
ivan torres I think this was when Brandon was doing solo stuff. The guys have been touring for their new album since last year
His voice pure liquid gold
One of my all time favorite songs... This version is beautiful.
The backing vocals towards the end of this are absolutely haunting.
The album version has one of the best bass tracks I've ever heard. This version...if the bass player wasn't on camera, I'd swear he wasn't even there.
Didn't think the song could get any better but LOVE this version too.
I looooooove it!!!

The 17 people who don't like this never had Jenny as a friend.
You're clear my friend jaja
Who'd want a suicidal friend though
The song is literally about killing a woman. What the fuck have you done Marino?
Some people just never bother to try to understand what the song is about :)
That cheating bitch
Brandon sings so effortlessly....amazing.
The mature rendition, without all the "youthful angst". Love it 👍

Jenny: *breaks up with him*
Brandon: I’m gonna do what’s called a pro-gamer move
OMG psychopath
Except the song clearly shows Jenny is another woman, that Brandon is accused of seeing on the side
