Getting rescued by a JEEP

- After what I thought was going to be a normal day offroad, I managed to snap an axle in one of the best spots on Double Sammy in Sand Hollow, UT. Then spent the next couple hours getting towed out by several jeeps to safety and then changed my axle in a parking lot.

Loved the video! Well done getting the car out and fixing it
Torque twist…in solid axles you can do this as well. On my g wagen I use to compete in, it was always the short front 1/2 shaft that would snap. For more controlled ascent I suggest you try and get a rear locker. Ifs usually break the cv..with the larger tyres it’s taking up more torque stress in the shaft now..but spinning wheels that are jumping then get grip when your not moving gives the shaft immense stress. Be careful going for larger dia shafts..it will transfer the load somewhere weaker.
Thats awesome the repair was so quick!
thank you! done it a few times before. haha
Never stop 🤙 keep on rockin’
thank you!
Music to my ears!! LOL - that was so fun to watch dude
Hahahaha, I’m glad you enjoyed it dude! Hope you’re back from deployment soon!
@@HarrisonSchoen Once I'm back we're cuddling in the back and I wanna touch your axle
wonderful adventurous..
That’s just awesome looks fun
I normally stick to your social media content, but this was surprisingly fun to watch. Sorry about the axle
I appreciate you! Any input on what I can do to make more videos to keep your attention in the future? What would you like to see??
Camera work was awesome
My friend Ryan's stoked to hear that! hahaha
@@HarrisonSchoen Yeah, when the axle broke he nailed every shot! =D
Nice work bro! You made fast work of that repair
Fortunately and unfortunately I've changed them a few times on this vehicle!
Nope! it didn't broke, it blew a fuse! That's what they are! :D
You should have called Matt's Off Road Recovery. He would have gotten you out in a flash.
Yes, but I would've had to wait for him to get there, and would've had to pay $100's of dollars! haha.
Evidently, the Jeep owner with the winch that towed me all the way out was named Matt!
Hey, nice video, looks really nice place to take cayenne out. My thoughts on the axle is: car weighs a lot more then stock, and I think also bigger wheels/tires are the cuz as well. I think if someone can come out with stronger axle, that might do the trick but then breakage might go inside the engine and tyranny so I'll take broken axles over anything else 😂😂!
hahaha, I'm thinking I may have some beefier axles made soon!
That's actually solid thinking, too strong axle might just move the hurt somewhere way more expensive, like the tranny indeed.
@@DarkWarjo it's always like that, for example you made your car go faster, you need to make sure it can stop faster now too, bigger turbo bigger brakes! Same here!
@@BoschPorsche yep, bigger stuff, more weight, more weight need more power, never ends, but that's hobby 😅👌🏼
Awesome, job.
Great work mate!!!!
Hope I can get mine on trails like that soon!
That was intense bro lol 😂
Glad ya living it up! 🥳
Thanks bro, I appreciate you!
this episode was a bit too “crunchy” for my liking. haha but luckily you had that spare axel! it’s always the random things that get you in a tough spot.
absolutely agree! I'm so so thankful for having a spare, otherwise I would be stuck there for a week or more! haha
Double Sammy taking axles lol
Yessir! I gotta go back hahaha
Cordless impact would be a nice addition to the tool kit 🤙 well done and timely repair! My salt covered midwest vehicle would probably not have cooperated as well 😂
Honestly, I can't justify the weight or cost of a cordless impact right now! haha. Mine's had enough parts changed now to not be rusty anywhere at all!
@@HarrisonSchoen an upside to the downsides that led to those part replacements lol. You'd be surprised where you can stow one and harbor freight impacts are honestly pretty good! Keep Killin it out there 💪
Someone is getting comfortable with a camera))
Thank you! It's becoming more and more natural!
Time for some RCV cv axles bud.
Steve actually made the same recommendation. I'll look into them soon now since this happened, though there's nothing for this vehicle on their site.
Same thing happened to my cayenne a couple weeks ago.
Interesting! not many have seen breaks right there!
@@HarrisonSchoen desert driving is exhausting on the cayenne
Broken axle. Been there done that, twice to be exact.
In half both times??
Oh jesus! Is that the new axle you just replaced a few weeks ago? How could it snap like that as you didn't hit a really big rock TBH.
No, this is actually one of the surviving original axles from the car with about 156,000 on it! Not that the mileage is any reason at all for the break!
@@HarrisonSchoen I think the stock suspension parts are the most challenge for your offroad adventure. Especially used parts. However, Porsche OEM parts are so pricey >_
@@ChooliYip haha, yes! I'm hoping better components come out soon!
Nice video. What do you think you can do to avoid this in the future? Do u think this is a weak link part in the Cayenne or just bad luck?
I'm hoping RCV axles comes out with some better, stronger ones for the Cayenne in the future!
@@HarrisonSchoen oh man! What list of parts do u recommend I carry w me? (W corresponding tools of course)
@@Chuck-yt7iq honestly, depends on where you're going and what you're doing. I'd say just a solid tool kit unless you're doing things like this!
@@HarrisonSchoen 50% as hard as you go. You do wonders with your rig. I wanna do lite semimodified overlanding.
@@Chuck-yt7iq I suspect you won't break any axles or anything! You won't have much to worry about aside from tires, brakes or usual maintenance
Can you rescue me from my thoughts tho?
dude these are 35s
yes
Isn’t this car your house also?? Why push it so hard?? You can tell you’re not great at important and smart decisions.
Hmm, you’re here watching me make “not great important and smart decisions”
Thus paying my in ad revenue. I’d say I’m doing pretty well 🤷🏼♂️
@@HarrisonSchoen That’s exactly what someone like you would reply. You think you’re entitled your immature you mess peoples day off by making them help you because you feel like the world owes you. You could see it in your face.
