It depends on how adaptable you are.
Most Singaporeans do not have a six-figure income (and six figures in SGD is less than six figures in USD, EUR, or GBP), and yet somehow they survive.
If you come from somewhere else, and you insist on living the way you did back home, you may find it incredibly expensive.
At a sit-down western-style restaurant, one drink may cost as much as the entire meal back home. But there are also food courts, where you can get an ample, tasty meal for just a few dollars.
If you want to live like a British lord on his country estate, you better be we’ve-read-about-you-in-the-newspaper rich.
Cars are expensive. Housing is expensive. Lots of things are expensive.
But if you are adaptable, you can avoid spending too much on the things that are expensive, and enjoy the things that are not so expensive (but which may be very expensive where you come from).
While I was working (I quit a few months ago - too many lying little ****suckers), I spent less than 50% of my income, including taxes as expenditure. Now, my income was much higher than what most people here earn, but you can also find people who earn much more than I do. I don’t have a car. I take public transportation, and occasionally Grab, and I feel like that’s perfectly accurate. My last car was more-or-less another company’s competitor to the Mercedes E-class. It would be for more expensive here. But I don’t need it, and I don’t waste money on it. If I insisted on living the way I did before I came to Singapore, I’d spend far more money.
