    I passed my UK driving test first try. I didn’t have any lessons, but I did have 30 years of driving experience in the USA. Your videos were super helpful (especially the ones about the roundabouts). I didn’t really need to learn to drive, just to learn how to navigate roundabouts and a few of the other driving related things that were different between the USA to the UK.
    I still sometimes try to get in on the wrong side of the car though lol.

      I hope I can also get it on the first try, been driving on the left side for more than 12yrs. Does driving on the right feels weird or is it difficult as well as shifting gears using your left hand? 😅

      @@yamieyamete3822 manual transmission vehicles are very uncommon in the USA (unless you are driving a lorry/semi). I have only ever driven automatic transmission. Shifting with my left instead of my right isn’t that strange to me, most of the cars I drive in the USA had the gear shift on the left side of the steering column.
      Driving on the other side didn’t feel that weird, right turns were very weird feeling to me in the beginning. I really had to think about where I was going.

If you find yourself accidentally on a slip road to a motorway, just do what you would do on a slip road to a high speed dual carriageway - accelerate, look for a gap, check mirrors and blind spot, match the speed of the traffic, slot in to a space.

    I started driving 2 weeks ago, and I've been using your videos to improve my techniques. I'm slap bang in the middle of my lane (unless it's not safe to be) thanks to your left knee video. Prior, I was trying to use markers such as a point on the bonnet or within the car, but was doing as you described and zigzagging, getting too close on one side or the other of my lane. In my country (Serbia) you have to finish 40 theory classes (45mins each), then theory exam then you have to do 40 driving classes (45 minutes each) before you can even attempt the Driving Exam. Watching other countries do it like this is kinda insane for me. Were way to strict

    • @antig1971
      @antig1971 12 днів тому

      Yeah. In the UK you can have a provisional license, where to drive on the road you need to be 17, have L stickers on the car and have someone who is 21+ and has a valid driving license. Way more lenient then Serbia 😂.

When I passed I had to drive 2 years with a temp license, where I couldnt drive after 23:00 till 06:00, the speed limit for me is 10% less ish than other people and cant drive a car if it has more than 80kw engine + the Learners sticker ahhaha. But for provisionals the only conditions are the ones I mentioned earlier.

    Checking blind spot seems over exaggerated. I have my side mirrors setup such that it's angled super far out and forms a continuous image with the cabin mirror. This way for lane changes I can check cabin mirror for overtaking cars that will soon appear in the side mirror, check the side mirror, and lastly a quick shoulder check. With this setup the blind spot is virtually eliminated for cars. Motorcyclists can still hide if they ride in the far outside lane though; hence the need for the shoulder check. I don't think I've seen you mentioned mirror setup before on this channel. It does make parking next to curbs hard though since I can't see the side of my car with the side mirrors. I have to get my butt out of my seat in order to see the side of my car or to use one of the pre-programmed mirror settings specifically for parking.

    (Sorry for the long comment in advance) I never usually comment on things... But I just wanted to say this is absolutely possible! I passed my test within 3 months of booking my first driving lesson. and I give HUGE credit to all these UA-camr's, Videos like these is what helped me each week to come back better. My instructor was always shocked how much I learned from online. And I would practise what I learned from these videos in my instructors car.
    Also a tip to anyone watching these videos. Imagine yourself in that car. and when you hear an examiner or sat nav in a video tell you to turn left or turn right. Move your head up as if you are checking your rear view mirror, and then move your head left or right as if you are checking your side mirrors. even though you are sat at your compute/laptop/phone. This will Imprint the muscle memory into your brain. and when your test comes. You will hear: "Turn right" and will naturally move your head up and right. There's many different things you can practise in your own room. There's even fun road sign games and things you can play. Just have fun with your learning. don't treat it as a chore, JUST HAVE FUN, you all can do it

The night before he had his mate drove round the route he would use and told him what to do on test. Obviously totally different to now. He did have to later to do another driving test when living in another country as can't use a British licence for ever if you have imigrated. I'm not sure of all the ins and outs of it probably other than if you have moved to another country they won't let you use a foreign licence indefinitely. Holiday is fine to drive

    Out of interest, as I passed before the satnav was invented, is the candidate allowed to ask where the satnav is directing them to? Gary said he was just setting up the satnav, but that would unsettle me if I wasn’t sure whether the end was in sight.

      They have to follow the route on the sat nav, the examiner may help if it's not clear.

      I m an instructor and I hear this all the time. Passed with few lessons but fail to mention the hundreds of hrs spent practicing with family. My advice is if you want to reduce paid lessons AND you have someone to practice with do about 20/30 hrs driving with family/friends emphasis on observations - mirrors when changing speed and direction. Blind spots when moving off. This alone will save you plenty of time in paid lessons. Obviously videos like this help tremendously

      @HaydnG266 23 дні тому +2

      Driving with your family aren't lessons, they will help you drive from A to B, but non-instructors will never remember to tell you to check mirrors, shoulder checks, do manoeuvres etc
