    Just got one of these for my singer. The best thing so far is that we dont have to rely on a lazy soundman to switch the vocal effects. The singer can dial in the entire set and control all the effects himself. Great product!

    Hey thanks for sharing these videos! I just bought one of this units at Guitar Center and it really has improved my vocal abilities! I am new at TC Helicon products.The efxs are great and very easy to use, custom-Editing programming is a piece of cake!There are a few things which will make this unit better such as having an On/Off switch rather than having to unplugging The power each time and perhaps adding 1/4 phono plugs outputs, the XLR stereo outs are fine but since i too intended on using it for recording purposes usually computer sound cards are not compatible With XLR connectors...So i had no other option than to run to Radio Shack to get all that i needed to make my own cables.Other than that is a great vocals investment. I am working on a new álbum and all vocals will have the use of this unit.

      Hi Exavier, glad to have you aboard!
      The unit is designed to be unplugged so that's why we don't have a switch.
      Our units are typically geared towards connecting to pro audio gear that very rarely uses phono connections. Those are unbalanced and pretty easy to get signal noise. I'd suggest using USB if you don't have an audio interface. Here's a video on that:

    It has internal mics to listen to what your guitar (or any ambient sound) is playing without having to plug it in. So if you're at practice or live, it listens to what everyone is playing - which everyone SHOULD be playing in the same key (do not confuse key with note). It figures what key you are in automatically without the need for an "alternative external input" telling it what key it should be in. There is also the option to set the key manually.

      I have a couple Acoustic Plays and my drummer has bought Voicelive Play to sing through. We like to set the keys to stick to a patch (C Maj2) for example, which in the Acoustic Plays seems to save just fine, but with the Voicelive Plays we can't seem to get this to stick. For example, we have set the up/down functionality to 'set key' which it allows, but each time we access it again, its picked some random key and maj/min variant, even when we haven't changed the patch. Any ideas on how to lock the key?

    Hi Jeff,
    If you have audio coming in via the Aux-In or USB or you've got the RoomSense mics set to Ambient/Auto, with the Harmony set to Auto, the Play will figure out the Key for you. It's more accurate via Aux or USB, but works well with RoomSense, depending on how close it is to a chordal instrument.

  • @tchelicon
    @tchelicon  12 років тому +1

    Hi MrMissingClue,
    The practice mode isn't looking at a particular key, just how close you are to each individual note. The accuracy score you see is the "total" of all the notes you've sung and the displayed percentage is an average of those notes. Hope that makes sense!

    I have an interesting problem with my unit after a couple years. It powers on, I can hear the voice come through, I can switch to differents presets and modify them. Yet the problem is it all sounds the same, its no longer modifying the input sound in any way? Anyone else have this issue? It worked well for years and now it is really just working as a pass through!

    Hi! Does this have a tone button or tone effect like the Perform V and other TC-Helicon products so that my voice can be compressed and EQ'd? The effects offered in this unit interest me but I am also looking at the TC Helicon Perform V. I like the idea of the perform V because it has a tone button which seems give you a nice crisp studio sound and a separate talk button (I rap so I want to easily be able to perform with no effects from time to time). Also outside of a bit of auto tune, all I really need is reverb and delay or double, another reason why the perform V interests me since I think I will have all my bases covered there.
    I am a hip-hop artist doing many lives shows and the biggest point of feedback that I have received is that my vocals sound dry. I don't have the luxury of having an engineer setting up my sound so I want to come to my shows with this already figured out which is why I am interested in this product.

    I have been looking for a high quality vocal processor. That gives the singer some control over how effects are used on their vocals. I have watch many videos for vocal processors and most are very dreadful. This one really does the job, I got to see and hear how it will sound if used in stereo. How to only activate the harmonies when you want them on certain parts, which gives a more realistic approach to how vocals sound with harmonies. On certain phrases and not always on which sounds unnatural. When I look at demos, I want to see them used in the application it was designed for. Great job. I think it is great it has a library of fx based on popular songs. Whether you use it or not it can be very useful for a cover band, plus the fx are studio quality.

    HI Poppa,
    It's placed in a relatively "hidden" position in order to prevent accidental knocks and level changes during performance. Since these units are on the road a fair bit, we want to make sure the mic level stays put after it has been adjusted during sound check/setup.

    @HeithinnGydja 12 років тому +1

    I think it's on the 2nd 3rd video too that you can set - say your reverb, or your main voice to have distortion after "X" gain level. So if you want clean while you're singing one part, say a softer type verse, but as you start to get louder, like in the chorus or bridge it will add the distortion so you can still save your Hit for something else like duplicator or the bullhorny/telephone sound

  • @tchelicon

    Hey, the VoiceLive Play is specifically targeted at people who are new to effects. At the same time it has enough options for the power user, to which you seem to belong. You always have the option to remove the song/artist presets manually. Also, hooking it up to VoiceSupport will allow you to import hundreds of new presets to chnage things up! :-)

      The Heart of Rock & Roll: A Tribute To Huey Lewis and The News Heya, with over 1000 presets out there for download via VoiceSupport, you can definitely use lots of them across many different songs. Don't worry about matching the title of the preset to the specific song it might reference. The presets can apply to tons of different music.

    • @tchelicon
      @tchelicon  8 років тому

      +Amir Pariyar NP means that the unit is receiving NaturalPlay information. That's it detecting chords from music it's hearing via the Aux input or RoomSense mics. Not sure exactly what you mean by it making a hall sound, but it could be a preset that has reverb or some other spatial effect on the HIT button, or it's a different preset you're changing to.

    The effects used on vocals are common to all genres, so you could totally use this for rock/metal.
    Just because a preset is modeled after a Britney song, doesn't mean the effects themselves aren't appropriate to other genres.
    Listen for the sound you like, not necessarily the title of the preset.
    Hope that makes sense!

      You've probably gotten an answer by now, but just in case you didn't: The Switch3 can control looping, but I don't know if any other functions can be assigned ("mapped") to its switches.
      Here's something from the manual: "Note: When a Switch3 is plugged in, Key/Scale selection is automatically assigned to UP/DN .When the Switch3 is unplugged, UP/DN remains Key/Scale and will need to be changed in the setup menu if you wish to assign UP/DN back to Looping."
      I bought a Switch 3 with my VLP, but haven't used it yet. (Oh, no! Another Learning Curve!)

    Can you integrate this unit with an arranger keyboard for chord detection to harmony.. is this via the aux input socket?

    • @tchelicon
      @tchelicon  8 років тому

      Sure could. The Aux will read the incoming music to try and determine key/scale. The clearer we can hear chords, the better we can detect things. If you run into the occasional song that doesn't work that way, you can always set key/scale manually for a few presets.

    • @dougclark110
      @dougclark110 8 років тому

      You could use the "Room Sense" feature to detect the key, with a guitar or keyboard.. I don't know if the AUX jack would work, unless you had a ¼" to 3.5mm cable or adapter for the output from the keyboard.
      I love the humorous stuff that goes into their manual:
      "Aux In - Use a 1/8” cable to connect any music source you like, espcially the 8-Track from your 1974 Comet. When an input is detected here, Play will use the music to figure out Key/Scale info."

      Thanks for the feedback! It's tricky to balance direct control and simplicity in a product like VoiceLive Play. I often suggest people use a Switch3 if they want to have a few effects always available in a stompbox style setup, then use HIT for combos of effects and the Switch3 for individual access.

      @kiskadar69 4 роки тому

      1. Any time you assign Harmony to a Switch-3 button, you can choose Harm Moment On or Off. When Harm Moment is set to On, the effect is only active as long as the switch is held down.
      2. Any time you assign Delay to a Switch-3 button, you can choose Delay Moment On or Off. When Delay Moment is set to On, the effect is only active as long as the switch is held down.

    Yep, but the Touch has 4 voices of harmony and the Play has 2, though you can use doubling for Octave up/dn in addition to the 2 Harmony voices.

    my question is this ... i run my karaoke from my laptop to my mixer in stereo and i run my mics to the mono inputs on the mixer , now my question is ..... can i just run one xlr output from the voicelive to one of my mic inputs on my mixer instead of using 2 xlr outputs from the voiceplay because i dont want to run out 2 xlr outputs to into 2 inputs as i have limited amount of inputs on my home mixer as the other inputs are used for other mics .... also i leave everything setup as it is once setup and find no need for further tweaking at home .

    • @malcwallace4119
      @malcwallace4119 9 років тому

      MAlcolm Wallace i intend to purchase one of these units but am waiting on a reply which will determine wether i buy one or not , as i only want to use one xlr output to one of my mixers inputs and of course i wont be plugging audio from my laptop into it either as i will use room sense mics for harmonies

    • @tchelicon
      @tchelicon  9 років тому

      MAlcolm Wallace Yep, you can set the VLP to mono output mode which sums the stereo effects to mono on the left (both dry and effects) and dry vocal on the right. You'd just connect the left XLR and not the right one.

    • @tchelicon
      @tchelicon  9 років тому

      TC-Helicon Alternatively, you can send the USB audio from your laptop into the VLP, which will be more accurate than RoomSense and then send the vocals+tracks out of the VLP in stereo to 2 channels on your mixer, saving you a channel. The mix of the track/vocals is done within the VLP.
      You've got some flexibility either way.

      TC-Helicon i ened up with the play electric and i have to use roomsense because i got feedback routing the headphone out of mixer into the aux and i tried line out on mixer and same thing ... i tried the usb but it needs asio and i tried it on a music prog and it worked but my karaoke program wont output into it because it doesnt use asio so i use roomsense ... its an awesome bit of kit and next on the list is the mp-76 mic

    I'm buying this so hard. I sing and play guitar so I'm used to shelling out cash for pedals and this is so reasonably priced for what it is. My live performances are gonna be so much better once I get my hands on this.

    • @tchelicon
      @tchelicon  8 років тому +2

      Nice! If you play guitar, you might want to consider a Play Electric. Even if you don't use the onboard guitar effects, the In/Thru can go to your amp/pedals. The benefit is that you'll capture the guitar chords to generate harmony without having to set key/scale.

    hi. i have a boss rc loop pedal. i was wondering if its possible to use the voice live play for vocal effects, and connect it to my boss rc30 and loop the vocals that way..

    • @tchelicon
      @tchelicon  8 років тому

      Sure thing! Just connect the output from Play to the input on the RC30. Watch gain staging so that you get enough signal into the Play and not too much out into the RC30.
      Here's a vid on that: ua-cam.com/video/qq0AOtafIjs/v-deo.html

    • @dougclark110
      @dougclark110 8 років тому

      I don't know why the VLP couldn't be run into the RC30. You'd need an XLR cable from one of the outputs on the VLP to the MIC IN on the RC30.
      If you do that, post a video.

    I'm not new to vocal pedals, but I bought this one and love all the many features and so much room for presets and I love the voice support etc etc - except I cannot use it in a live band setting!
    I have literally spent MONTHS putting in my bands repertoire and having two or three different presets per song. I took it to band practice and it was awesome.
    But I got to the gig and it all went out the window! It's like it just goes berserk on me! PLEASE! Is there just a live setting that I can set and forget? Yes I do the vocal volume to just go green - but as of right now, after trying a second gig where I had to put it away and pull out my Boss again, it is going into the red even when the wheel is way down ... One minute it's green and the next it's flipping out. And it's doing it at home without it being connected to a PA.
    It's like it's having a tantrum all the time and then comes right for a bit.
    I'm not one to admit defeat, but the bottom line is - it's just bloody unreliable and as for easy to use - I beg to differ! What a let down! I am sure it's to do with the initial setup - and if any musicians can help me out I would be really grateful - but I will also add, the lack of an on and off switch and the short flimsy power chord upside down is extremely disappointing and a pain in the arse. A decent power supply is quite crucial one would think.. .
    The unit has potential but it needs to be reliable so you can plug in and play and I am just not finding it to be one bit! I could be doing something wrong - and if so, please please can someone help here? A live setting. Someone please gimme a live setting!

      I have a few tips in case a sound technician makes the sound at a concert:
      1. Set SETUP / TONE STYLE to OFF. The sound technician will then adjust the EQ / compressor the way he/she wants.
      2. Set SETUP / OUTPUT to MONO and set SETUP / LEAD MUTE to ON. Thus, on the Right XLR output you can hear the dry vocals ("Lead"), and on the Left XLR output you can hear everything else (the effects applied to the Lead, the harmony and the effects applied to the harmony). Glue on a piece of light-colored tape and rename the XLR outputs ("DRY", "MONO"). If you send both outputs to the FOH mixer, the sound technician can only give you the Lead to the monitor. This is especially useful if you also use Transducer effects.
      3. Set MIX / OUT LEVEL to -10dB to get mic output level. At 0dB the signal is really hot.

    Troubleshoot Question for Voicelive Play:
    I've noticed that from time to time, while I'm singing a powerful note, the audio clips out, especially when using reverb like reflection plate or different delays. I have adjusted the gain several times but it still occurs but only when singing a powerhouse note. I've even backed away from the mic to the point I could barely be heard. Please advise....thanks

      +Gimmie The Keys Clipped as in the LED went red? If so, you could try the "more comp" Tone style that will reign in the high blasts a bit more than the "normal" style.

    1. Download voice support software on their website (don't launch the software yet!)
    2. hook up the unit to your pc via usb. Windows should automatically detect the device and install the drivers.
    3. After the drivers are installed, launch the software and you're set.

Any ideas on how to lock the key?

    is it possible to have the signal dry until I press down on a pedal for effects (the pedal output on the back)?

    • @tchelicon
      @tchelicon  6 років тому

      In way, yes! All the effects in the unit can be mapped to the leftmost footswitch - the “Hit” footswitch. With this, you can keep you voice clean until you press the “Hit” footswitch to toggle your effects on. The only caveat is that if you’re using Tone (eq, compression, de-essing, & gating), it’s either always on or always off, it can’t be triggered with a footswitch but we highly recommend leaving Tone on all the time.

      +JOSE SPERANZA I'd use Tone inside Play, mostly because you can reduce the number of devices you carry. "More Comp" is a good way to get some more compression, though I don't think the styles in Play exactly match the T1 knobs, since you can't control the individual parameters.
