Very nice where did you place the legs on the base plate, i.e. what angle the front one is straight but the two back one's what angle are they places pointing outwards?????
Good morning, thank you for watching. Good question about the offset angle of the rear legs. I just set them so that when looking at the stand from directly above; the bottoms of the legs didn’t protrude past the sides of the top deck where the anvil sits. This way the anvil can still take all the necessary blows, including lateral ones without the stand moving even a fraction but the legs are still tucked out of the way so you don’t catch your feet on them when moving around the anvil. I hope this answers your very good question, if you need any further information please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Many thanks!
No problem! At 2.36 the markings are putting the legs 120 degrees from each other, when I came to weld it I thought the back legs were sticking out to the sides a fraction too much, so I moved them inwards together a little more. Without the anvil on the top deck I looked directly down from above and you can just about see the bottom of the leg where it’s welded to the flat floor plate with the bolt/peg hole. The flat plates then move out past this point increasing stability but not something you will trip over. If you want go to my website www.mattberrycustom.com and use the contact form to send me an email, I can reply with a picture when I get chance if this helps?
I did a blacksmith day a few months back after being inspired by Alex steele. I loved it. I'm planning and anvil in the back of my head for the garden.. And now I know how... Nice one
Cool! Glad you got got the blacksmithing bug and glad you got something out of the video. As a woodworker you’ll get a kick out of being able to make your own fixtures and fittings, the hand forged stuff looks far better. 👍🏻
My pleasure Mr Smith! When I’ve got an idea in my head every surface becomes a designing pad. The drawings should baffle some archeologists in the future 😉
Cheers Dan! I would highly recommend the chain hold down, it works a treat mate. Quick to engage and doesn’t mark the workpieces. Thanks for watching my friend 😊👍🏻
"hello and welcome"?? THAT'S MY LINE!!! Great build though, lots of good information and tips in there! And nice work with the S-hooks and poker! I'm going to have to up my game, you're catching me up with this blacksmithing lark!
I’ve put the royalty cheque in the post! As for catching up to you I’m a million miles away, you didn’t see how many epic balls ups I made before I got the finished pieces! 😉. Thanks for watching Steve.
Logging this one in the future projects bank...always fancied having my own mini forge and anvil for metal bashering!! Would be good to have an anvil assembly that didn't fire up the neighbours too much. Great job👍😁
Thank you. Yes, my dear lady sometimes has high expectations about how long these things take, but…. It gets done when it gets done! Have a good day 😊👍🏻
That’s one of the tidiest looking anvil stands I’ve ever seen, and full of incredibly practical solutions! Top stuff Matt! I really should add a hold down chain to mine! 👍
Hi Matt, so great to see another awesome video from you! Great story telling for this build, and so many great tips too. We really liked how you accessed the legs to fill them with sand, and making the plugs was genius. We love your No Trespassing sign, by the way! That is just like you, making sure every job gets finished! 😜
Thank you lovely people! Hey, did you notice the Phunkiss pencil in use at the start of the video? Thanks as always for the support and positivity, it’s very much appreciated. 😊👍🏻
Yeah it’s food grade citric acid, most chemists or home brewing shops sell it. Best bang for your buck is EBay though. Leave it to soak for about 45 minutes. Muriatic acid (sold as brick or patio cleaner) is much faster (takes a couple of minutes) but is nasty stuff. Whichever method you use do it well ventilated. Glad you like the sign, gift from the Mrs. She said it sums up my intolerance for most people perfectly 😁
Thanks Angie, it’s not art or pretty, purely utilitarian but I tried to make the video as interesting as possible. Thanks for watching and your support!
Pretty sure that would also work as a stand for a drill press as well, as it has a nice low centre of mass, so is not too likely to tip over. In addition to the damping all the sand provides as well.
G’day mate, beautifully made video as usual 🎥🔨👍, great to see you drive the worlds best utility, a Hilux & have you got Trefolex in the UK to use as a cutting agent when tapping holes ?, Bonza project Cobber 👍👍👍👍
Hiya mate! Thank you for the positivity! Yeah I love my Hilux’s, this is my second one, my first one I had for 15 years and I’m kicking myself for getting rid of it, I should have restored it. Yes you can get Trefolex in the Uk, is it good stuff? I use CT-90 cutting and tapping fluid at the moment. 😃👍🏻
Very nicely made Matt, that's one solid stand! I would have never thought of filling the legs with sand.. Genius! I probably would have tried to make it all out of solid stock if I had to make one, that being said, I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to metal work haha I know better now :) Love the music you used in this video, very cruisy and peaceful :)
Thank you mate! Yes it’s the sand that dampens the resonance and helps kill the ear splitting ring. Glad you got something out of it and you should try doing some stuff with metal yourself, man of your skills I reckon you’d come up with some amazing stuff! Thanks for watching and your support as always. 😊👍🏻
@@MattBerryCustom The whole "sand in the legs" thing makes perfect sense now that I've seen you make it. Thanks Matt :) I've always wanted to try a bit of blacksmithing :) My neighbour has an anvil (It's bolted to a stump of wood) but he doesn't have a forge. I'll have to talk him into helping me build one so I can use his stuff! haha :)
Apologies for the late reply I’ve been away. The size I used was 2”x4” with a 1/4” wall thickness. In my opinion I think 1x2 would be a little under sized and I’d be looking at something near the size I used. I use it and have absolute confidence it’s strong and take whatever hammer blows I deliver, personally I wouldn’t want that gnawing doubt in the back of my mind. Many thanks for watching and enjoy your build. 😊👍🏻
Fair point, I’m still learning when it comes to video making. But you do hear the anvil being struck and not ringing right at the start of the video. Thanks for watching. 😊👍🏻

@@MattBerryCustom Thanks for that so at 2:36 in the vid you have marked it so the legs come to the edge is that what you meant.???

I might have to borrow some of those tips for my anvil stand! Nice one!

Fantastic project. The editing and camera work is second to none! 👍👍👍
That means a lot to me, I’m really starting to love the film making side of it. Cheers Keith, much appreciated 😉👍🏻
Matt's back!! I absolutely love the fact that you did your drawings on your shed wall. Right up my street! A simple, logical system. Perfect 😀
I liked that too.

Great work pal! Nice touch explaining the zinc coating. I had no idea
Thanks mate! Yeah it can make you very ill, google metal fever, it’s an eye opener.
Good to see you back mate, nice work, drawing on a wall !? why not, worked perfectly.
Thank you! And it’s some of the cleaner and less potty mouthed things I’ve written on walls 😉😂

I like your layout - I get in a lot of trouble for that though with the wife when remodeling the house. She just doesn't appreciate waiting for paint.

Thank you John, yeah it bears my behemoth proportions so it’s sturdy enough. 😉
Love the hold down chain idea.. something to try

Thanks again my friend 😊👍🏻
Simply beautiful work once again buddy........great to see you back on the tube......❤️🤘👌
Thanks Dan, a practical project for something I needed. Pretty and arty stuff next video I promise 👍🏻😊
Nice video and great work! i loved watching this!
Thank you! The positive feedback much appreciated!
I was looking to mount an anvil until I saw your video. I will scale it down a bit for a 29.5k, good stuff man. Thank you.
It’s a pleasure man! Hope it goes well for you. Mine still performs beautifully and super quiet to work on. 👍🏻

awesome job, well done brother, you make it look so bloody easy

Capable of lifting 125kg very easily just by turning the handle.
