Don was put on leave (not fired) and he RETURNED from leave. He groveled slightly, but he prevailed.

Such a great interview. Mad Men is my all-time favorite show, but I don't think I've ever heard Matthew speak on it at length. I usually don't like hearing artists talk about their work. It means what it means to me and I don't like that messed with by some "insight" from its creator. (Like when I heard Tarantino say it was Butch who keyed Vincent's car. I agree with Vincent's take on the kind of person who would do that. It's a pussy movie. Definitely not how I saw Butch Coolidge, keying someone's car like a jealous chick.) But this was really interesting. I guess mainly because it was sort of general. I mean, it's all stuff you've kind of already figured out, if you're a superfan of Mad Men like I am. But it was cool to hear him put it into words. And I like that he obviously cares about his characters, that they mean something to him. I hate when writers or filmmakers are flippant about their characters. Like, don't you get that we CARE about these imaginary people, so much so we're listening to you talk about them??

Weiner puts David Simon to shame.
